I don't get it, why can't Blizzard just release a card draw for hunter in the next expansion instead, something like 3-4 mana, draw 3 cards, heal opponent for like 15-20 hp, so agro/midrange hunter decks won't use it. Also give a board clear for hunters that harms both side of the board and also heal the opponent for a large amount. That's just examples from the top of my head to make control hunter viable, it's real simple actually, don't know why Blizzard is taking so long to make these cards for the hunter class.

     This. All the way.

This is a great thread. I have thought about this often. Its hard to say what a better nerf would have been but they certainly could have learned from the card and implemented a new one by now. Maybe: BadMOFO - 3 cost 2/4 legendary that says  when you summon a beast draw a card. Deal one damage to BadMOFO for each card drawn blah blah blah something like that. I dunno... but I do know that most feel hunter is overpowered with card draw but the reality is that all classes benefit tremendously from the mechanic and some of them have it in excess. Especially druid... (looking at you infestation)

    But great topic!

I tried this and the weapon.  In the end I cut them (and a few low impact filler spells) for 2 Highmanes, 2 cloaked huntesses, and 2 secret keepers.

Performed better with 80% spell deck than 100%.

So while two companions for 6 mana is undoubtedly great, the restriction makes it a no no.

Yea maybe bext expansion will give us a better secret or two to offset the short comings.. i have been playing a build with minions as well, running 2 mana wraiths and two doom sayers. Believe it or not its been causing some problems for people... even if they just slow their curve a bit to remove them that helps get ahead. Just thought id share

At the risk of flogging a dead horse, I stand by my early judgement. I did concede that it might end up as a curve-filling card in a very specific kind of mid-tier deck and that's what it's done. It doesn't make it a good card.
Haha naw i think the horse is still alive on this one. Now that we can playtest it I personally feel its fair to judge it now.
For me, the value of a card is based on how playable it is, even if it is only in one deck type. There are plenty of cards that are considered great that would suck in most decks.  If At My Side! Is playable at all, its certainly better than the hell storm it stirred up for for blizz :)

Personaly, I'm going to be playing devil's advocate here: I'm still not convinced by the viability of "spell hunter".

It's a deck that has really bad weaknesses and can be easil targeted. Decks like taunt druid or priest can just stall indefinitely while the hunter exhausts itself. Even paladin can just produce taunt for days and wait for the correct board state before attacking and winning in  a few turns. let's not forget warlock's voidlords.

Also spell hunter has near to no margin for evolution. You can only make so many decks without any minions. It's not like reno when you have a lot of slots for techs. You can't really play tech cards in spell hunter, because most techs are minions.

As I see it the deck will be tiers 3 once the meta settles in - and only because tempo mage and tempo rogue will be really popular. The deck will fizzle out if  any midrange or control meta appears.

I am totally with you on the taunt thing. That really is an issue and unless hunter gets an explosive trap with poisonous its gonna be a problem for the next 2 sets.
Also, if the deck really does become top teir in the next 5 months, cards that shuffle minions into your opponent's deck will be teched in and i dont see a solution for that.
But i do have to disagree on the margin of evolution. They really can make infinte amounts of interesting spells like flanking strike and animal companion. No minions as a thing on its own isnt the problem i dont think.

As always... I created the deck in my signature as soon as I saw these cards, knew they would work, or that they would at least be very funny 😂
I personally think that is the fun of a ccg. Every new expansion is a source of new strategies that cant be properly assessed without play testing.  But im with you, even "very funny" is more credit than this poor card got.

The more I think about this card the more I love it.  Even if you run this with minions, it's still a spell and NOT a minion.  This won't conflict with discovering and recruiting strategies.  And with animal companion and call of the wild your deck will still have a board.  A very strong one in many cases dues to these three spells curving the way they do.

For example, if you had two minions that you needed the Stitched Tracker to find, you would normally have to forgo other minions to further that strategy and reduce RNG.  This helps that a ton.  Just because, as a single card, something may not have value doesn't make it bad. Deck building is supposed to be part of this whole CCG experience, not just net decking and waiting for blizz to design the next blowout cards for your favorite class like Ultimat Infestation.  Anyone can see that card's value.   Just recently, these threads bashed the Rogue Quest, Prince Keleseth... most just let others mold the meta then follow it...

Definitely without a doubt To My Side! is the worst card ever designed. It's not even an opinion. Someone please lock this thread now, discussion is over.

And youve play tested it how exactly?

If you saw the stream you would know it is possible to pull this type of deck off. there are still cards to be revealed so you cant just call it trash if you don't know what else it could be synergized with yet.

The new spell stone can really give you value and decent minions, Unleash the Houndsdoes this too. Also you can get spells such as Infest which you use on the tokens. Hunter has a few cards that summon minions, the new To my Side works really well with this. Its literally just two cards mixed into one. You may say, just run Call of the Wild but it doesn't matter, now hunter has a card to summon 1 2 and 3 animal companions depending on what point in the game your at. They all have the same value if you are running this style of deck, each one is just three mana more which is PERFECTLY balanced. Yes it is trash to run to my side in a basic hunter deck because it is not what the card is made for.  So you can't get mad because blizzard is adding a new archetype of deck. It may become viable once the expansion releases,  we just have to wait and see

Finally some damn sense... thank you. Man, these treads light up with countless people that bash instead of discuss. The same people that misjudged every other card the became meta defining... they trash this weapon because its "only for one deck" but they also said the same about prince keleseth; that it was trash... Look how that turned out. Sigh...

Theatre Hunter: control hunter with Barnes and Yshaarj. All other spells are body apells or control spells. Use tracking to find combo.

Each companion is worth 4 mana value, with the randomness being the downside and thus costing 3 mana. Packaging two 4 mana minions together means that it also counts as a card draw which is roughly 1.5 mana. Basically this is a good value card.

The main two downsides of such a deck are the lack of draw and the lack of heal. If control hunter cant find either, then dont expect much play.

What if Barnes or Yshaarj are still in your deck?
Weve all played plenty of match ups where a reno deck couldnt find reno. It was still worth playtesting tho and those builds shook the meta. Hearthstone is at least 32.47627759% what if. I did the math.

This card is all about curve value bewteen 3 and 9 and of course deck building circumstance.  Hunter has secrets, direct damage and a hero power to drive early game damage which has always made it a prime candidate for a solid control class but they keep cycling worthy cards out before it all comes together.  You run 2 animal companions, two To My Sides, and two call of the wilds and you have equal board presence to most other control decks. (The rng is certainly an issue) but with Deathstalker Rexxar for late game (also rng) things could shape up solid. No one can accurately judge the synergy of this card without play testing.

But please answer me this, because this is what I'm not getting in all these apologist posts. Imagine you have this incredible control Hunter deck where you have 28 of 30 cards selected. Let's imagine they're all spells. You decide you need something for the 6-mana slot. Even in this hypothetical world where a control Hunter deck with 28 spells is perfectly viable and you have the gap that To My Side! is supposedly designed to fill, why would you pick it? What current synergies exist that make it worth running over Savannah Highmane?
Or, to put it another way, what other current synergies exist to make it worthwhile building a deck with absolutely no minions apart from this card, which is still merely average in that deck?
     1. Why would you run it over highmane in a control deck? Because its  8 damage target removal/finish damage or 8/8 taunt vs aggro decks and thus far better han highmane if condition is met.
    2. there are still 4 hunter cards to see at least 1. Legendary weapon you might wanna run with this and most likely at least 1 more spell.
    3. i dont get all the rage about this card, while its not obvious that this finds a home in a tier1 deck. This is far away from beeing unplayable or uninteresting. Technically its around 8-9 mana value for six. Thats not reno but its still something.
     What he said.
As for highmane, although it is arguably of the best 6 drops in hearthstone, if you are playing control properly with secrets, your 6 drop isnt nessecarliy something you need a single card to fill. You should be playing a freezing trap and eagle horn or an animal companion then kill command. Heck, if we werent discussing To My Side, even running Abomination and toxic arrows would be a better minion than highmane.

Is this a thread about the worst card design ever or a list of cards we hate to play against? ...cause then most of these are probably pretty good...

A poor design would be Holy Wrath (will be amazing at 3 mana tho) or King Mukla...

Side Note: I love how these card reveals a flooded with bashing cards before the set is out for testing yet here is a thread that opens with how OP a card is that was trashed during its reveal... sigh...
