Whether or not Alex needs to be nerfed is a point of opinion, but it is worth noting that neutral cards have been nerfed for being overly prevalent and mitigating class weaknesses too well. Alex is powerful, prevalent, and mitigates multiple class weaknesses.
That deck has a 69% win rate Bronze to Gold. It drops to below 60% at Diamond 1-4.
HSReplay is great but a lot of the free stats are next to useless.
The majority of players are Gold and below, so I don't think it's correct to ignore that segment. Their fun is not less important than your fun, even if they aren't as skilled or as tryhard as you.
I have no idea if the statement "the majority of players are Gold and below" is true and am not familiar with where one would go to find those stats, but regardless, their fun is equally important but their win rates are not.
If we're having a "nerf because it's not fun" discussion, no stats are necessary. If we're having a "nerf because of balance" discussion, we don't take stats from areas of the ladder where all of the better players remove themselves quite quickly by mechanics of the ladder.
And if someone is inclined to suggest that good players get stuck in Gold and below because of f2p considerations, Trump has put that argument to rest clearly and convincingly with the most recent f2Legend series.
Something like 5% of HS players are Diamond or above. It’s not about Paladin not being fun. If the deck is oppressive to 95% of the player base in terms of its win rate that’s not good for the game in the long run.
Only if I was a heavy whale who got all other cards or at least all other decent cards and will be able to do so for the following expansions too.
So technically yes, practically hell no.
That said I do like "value" goldens, i.e. ones that summon things or create other cards. Those are more likely to stick around in my collection for a while but ultimately goldens get DE first when the dust is low.
Also I played a few "all basic goldens" decks for the lulz. I bet my opponents expected a whale when they saw the golden coin but it was actually a 100% free deck :P Ofc that was back when it was possible to hang out at rank 19 and play silly decks and win. Nowadays I think such a deck would get crushed into the dust at Silver 10.
I love golden cards that create other cards. More goldens for the prices of one. I also miss the days where silly decks could win at noob ranks but those days died out somewhere around Whispers of the Old Gods.
Seems like an absolutely bonkers card but I was looking into the meta and it seems no Secret Paly list runs him.
Someone explain this insanity to me.
Most of these lists I see only run 4 secrets or so. You don’t have enough active at once to really make an impact. On top of that, Oh My Yogg is so OP I can’t imagine wanted to turn it into a 2/2. The prevalence of devolving missiles might also play a factor.
If you follow tempostorm it’s the only tier 1 deck. So it’s all perspective.
Tempoatorm's latest meta snapshot is based on stats that are 2-3 weeks old and is based on nothing. If that doesn't convince you how off it is, the fact that their no2 deck is token Druid should be enough.
Token druid is a solidly tier 2 deck so your argument is flawed. The snapshot is only 6 days old so not sure how their info is 2-3 weeks old.
I definitely think there’s some sort of corrective mechanic built into card draw and matchmaking. Win too much and your draws get weighted different (which hilariously favors low curve decks and why aggro never truely dies). If your class has a bad matchup you’re more likely to see it if you’re winning a lot. This is all impossible to prove but there’s enough incidents of hilariously unlikely outcomes and weird coincidences that you’d be hard pressed to make me believe it’s not the case.
I wanted to start a thread like this for people who can hate a card but also understand it doesn’t need to be nerfed, mostly because I’m bored.
Ogremancer I can’t stand this card. Mostly because I’m playing token druid right now. Slap this on an empty board and you instantly win vs a token druid. No cards in that deck can kill it and all but 2 trigger it’s effect and anything that they do summon likely dies to your free minions. I’ve been having a run of seeing this card every time I’m about to go up a rank and it just makes me sad.
Far Watch Post This card was busted before the nerf but now it seems fair. That said when your opponent coins this out on turn one and you can’t kill it. It’s a bad feeling.
Strongman i see this card a lot against control lock and corrupt druid. It sucks getting an opponent near death and seeing 2 of these guys slapped on the board for free. In this meta it’s not really busted because it’s so slow. If the meta ever shifts though I wonder if it has the potential to be problematic. Regardless I wouldn’t mind a slower meta, not a fan of aggro metas.
Gibberling The irony of hating this card and playing token druid. This card is singlehandedly responsible for some of my most dirty wins. Sometimes it just makes me want to take a shower.
Illidari StudiesandDouble Jump i hate these 2 cards for the same reason. Demonhunter outcast shenanigans for days in their aggro decks drives me nuts.
I only craft golden copies of legendaries I like, with a few exceptions. If the card art is particularly good I’ll craft a gold of it if I’m gonna use it.
People spent so much time whining about spell mage, which has like 3 good matchups in the meta and ignored secret Paladin which only has like 2 bad matchups. Pretty damn funny.
Of all the cards in hearthstone, I didn't think this would be one to be complained about, to be honest.
That's nothing. In a thread a couple weeks ago, someone actually complained about Fireball. Still shaking my head at that one.
Well, at the very least that makes a lot more sense than Alex nerf. Fireball is a dangerous, polarized, scalable card, I can understand why some people think it's too powerful, especially in this standard environment where spell damage is at its best.
But, Alexstrasza... Like WTF, in what world is 9 mana deal 8 non-scalable damage problematic ?
I too was suprised when aggro (more like midrange to be fair) paladin was running it, but it makes perfect sense paladin always lacked direct damage, it's just a matter of learning the matchup, just don't be at 8 health against paladin.
Fireball is barely played and spell damage mage is a garbage deck...

I’ve only seen this card a handful of times and it’s never played a factor in the outcome of my games yet

When I first read this I was imagining mr. “Follow the rules” for some reason.
