Hi everyone, I've been playing hearthstone for about 3 weeks now, and I'm still very much enjoying it.
I've been trying to climb the ladder, and I'm stuck somewhere between rank 20 and 15. I'm still learning but I noticed that whenever I'm in a good spot, I tend to lose to situations like "Ragnaros killing my face when I have a full board", or "my opponent goes on a discover spree and gets the perfect "created by" card", .... It's very fustrating to lose like that because there is literally nothing I can do about the situation. Is there any way to handle the tilt or avoid these kind of situations? Personally I don't like the play into the RNG because my outcome is usually bad, but it seems luck is really important in this game. But maybe that is just my confirmation bias.
On a side note, I opened around 70 packs so far, and I received 8 legendaries (which I assume is above average), but missing a lot of "staple cards", and most classic packs I buy now offer 40 dust because of duplicates, over any of the cards I'm missing. I don't have a lot of dust to craft any meta deck, and getting duplicates don't help furthering that cause. I used to play battlegrounds instead to get some gold by winning, but I don't even get top 4 anymore at this point.
There is a new brawl every week. Try to win at least 1 game/ week in it, as it gives you a free classic pack. Usually you get a premade deck, so you are not at a deckbuilding disadvantage due to the limited amount of cards you have. And dont' feel bad about playing slower because you don't know what all the cards do, you'll know them all in time ;)
I like Demons but they are too uncommonly spread throughout the tiers. Good early minions and late-game but without Nightmare Amalgam the midgame is lacking for the tribe.
I like Battlegrounds as well. As a new player it's easier to grind for gold in this gamemode then it is playing ladder. Literally Quest Shaman on rank 20
Hey man, I’m in a similar situation as the poster, I started off liking mage and now warmed up to shaman quite a bit. I spent like $120 on classic card packs so I have a bunch of cards and dust, the problem is when I start to build/ fine-tune decks I literally feel overwhelmed by the sheer amount of cards, combinations, synergy, and the correct or “best” way to capitalize on those things.
Three big problems I have are:
1. Not knowing what ratio of lower (0-3) and higher (4-7+, just the way I think about it lol not even sure if that’s how pro’s look at it) mana cards to have
2. Not knowing whether to use an archetype, and if so which one works best (Murloc, mech, pirate, elemental, beast, dragon, etc.
3. Not knowing how many minions vs. spells/ secrets to have, what ratio of high mana minions and spells to low cost, if I should have duplicates of certain cards of not
On top of that I’m just starting to learn about the different deck types, like Tempo, Control, Aggro, Zoo and i just feel overwhelmed and like I have OCD when I start adjusting my decks lol. Is there a good guide/ video/ YouTube channel that you know of to learn the like, “meta basics” I guess? I understand the super-beginner basic stuff, but I feel like I’m drowning trying to get a good grasp on the higher level meta stuff. Any help greatly appreciated!!
I'm also a new player, so I understand your situation. Try watching some streamers on youtube or twitch. They usually have decklist on screen, and watching them play, lets you know how to use the deck as well.
I'm trying to avoid crafting orange cards atm, because it takes me a long time to come up with the dust, and for that amount you are better of crafting 16 blue ones for example. Try to buy at least some packs from every expansion because you will get an orange card in the first 10 packs. Right now I'm using a combo priest deck since I got High Priest Amet, so I'm building the deck around him, using sites like this one to look for good builds.
