Has anyone from Blizz explained why they have chosen to hide the opponents rank? Is it because they think it irrelevant following the changes to matchmaking or something else. I like knowing when I beat someone what rank they were, if higher then great, if much higher then really great and I guess my MMR is high(ish).
Apologies if this has been answered already.... I did search and couldn't find anything here.
I was at Diamond 3-4 yesterday and won a close game to a guy with a legend card back.
Sent a friend request after the game and he was currently ranked top 500 legend. I also recognised his name from tournaments.
Today I lost 7 out of 8 games from Diamond 1 back to Diamond 3.
This is a zero sum game, someone has to lose a star. Expect for legend where they have nothing to lose but my I’m trying to rank up. Shouldn’t I compete with someone in the same ranking?? New MMR sucks.
To hide the fact that once you are D5 you allmost every time face a Legend player!! This is why MMR sucks!!! You shouldn't face Legend players....only in Legend!!!

Had to create a new profile because "something" went wrong with Hearthpwn!! Lost all my shit and they couldn't fix it they say!
I can agree @TheOnlyVendetta - when I was playing on legend last season, I was often matched against diamond 1-10, sometimes even against platin opponents. Actually I am not sure, wether MMR is the fair way to match against opponents, liked the old system much more, when you were matched against your rank (+ or - 1 rank).
And hiding the opponents rank is surely because you should not see that you are matched against a higher rank player.
Yea it doesn't seem to make sense that to climb to legend you're playing against people of equal skill because then doesn't that mean people who tank their MMR at diamond 5 then can get to legend playing noobs?
You face harder opponents (in theory at least), when you are winning and weaker, when you are loosing. This is not a mystery since always. Legend players have always been paired vs players who hadn't yet hit legend - all you have to get is Legend player loosing some and ranked player winning some.
This has been happening in old ranking system, happening in early HS and is happening now. What's so worrying?
Also c'mon, believing that there is a major skillgap between high ranked and low Legend is just just laughable. Hitting Legend, especially nowadays, when there are so many options for an easy climb, isn't an achievement of your lifetime. If anything you should be rather thankful for being paired with low Legend player who is possibly memeing, playing a more casual deck or simply doesn't care about rating (because why would you unless you are going for the top?).
High ranks just before Legend is the most tryhard place on the ladder. If you really prefer to face high Diamond players, than Legend players, then something's wrong with you.

when I am playing some meme deck around the 20k - 25k legend rating I don't want to face D1 - D5 since it will be tryhard demon hunters. When I am playing warrior I hope to get diamonds to gate keep them haha. I find you get a lot of plats around 25k - 30k. At about 15k - 20k it becomes mostly diamonds/similiar rating legends. You have to be really high legend to only play legends (like top few hundred) it seems.
I agree, i'm actually a casual player, i've been playing a lot in the past and reach the legend, now i just play when i have time, but now it doesn't feel funny to play anymore, i can't even play a random meme deck just for fun at silver, that's because i have 7 stars and i get matched against people that are tryharding with the best decks. Cherry on top is that you can't see the opponents rank, so blizzard can cover from complaints
So you are saying you don't care about ranks and play with meme decks. But always get beaten by people who care about ranks. So you want some sort of special olympics for yourself in the ladder? I don't get your complaint...
What angers me about the new ranked system is I constantly hear people say “it’s based off mmr, that’s why you play legend players”. So that means two things to me. One: that legend player is just as good as a platinum/diamond player, and just had easier match-ups to get to legend. And two: if everything is so MMR dependent, why do we even have ranks? Ranks are supposed to be just that right? You play against people at the same rank, to move up to the next rank to see how you stack up. At this point the ranks are just stupid if they have no actual meaning to your real skill in the game. If I’m diamond 5 I should play diamond 6-4. You can’t tell me the match maker can’t find me another opponent in that bracket faster than a high end legend player right now. And if I’m platinum 5, I shouldn’t randomly get a legend player cause my mmr is high. If it really was that high I’d be legend( I’m sure they are the same numbers just pointing out the flaw of mmr in this game). Playing against legend players while ranking up skews everything too, as while I can attest, from diamond 5-1 everyone is playing very tightly, there are mostly high tempo/aggro decks and usually most games are decided early you deck choice is based on what you see usually, and you see that reflect in every diamond 5-1 player. Legend players don’t have the same feeling, you can play something off meta, high value decks that can catch the meta decks off guard, cause you aren’t risking stars, but a few points each game. In any card game there are meta decks. It would suck to be in day two of a major tcg tournament, and be told “hey, even though this guy has 3 more wins than you and is undefeated and guaranteed to top 32 this tournament win or loss, we think you are about the same skill level, and he is playing some super crazy value gala priest that he just feels like playing, I know all your techs are for weapons since that is what everyone sitting next to you will be playing, but he won’t have any of that, good luck.” I understand matchmaker wants us in games as fast as possible, ranks should matter more than any hidden mmr when it comes to ranked latter, and they should do a way better job of keeping legend players more contained.
Yeah I was diamond 7 last month and played a great game against someone. They had me one 1 health and lost on purpose. I was shocked. I added them as a friend ... and noticed they were legend. They said they lost on purpose because it was the end of the month and he wanted to help me out.
I thought it was nice of them, but I really should not be facing legend players. I hate this system.
People seem to forget that your mmr is your rank from a matchmaking perspective. The normal rank you see is only cosmetic and completely unrelated to your mmr too give you some sort of progression. Think of it as if everyone is legend but you can't see your legend number.

When you are legend you get to see the ranks of the people you're playing against.
state of the game is terrible on so many levels....

And is there a reason to show opponents ranks when you hit legend? I cannot think of one....
ami really would like to know my MMR. bliz should show us some more stats...
