Quest rogue is good but you have to mulligan hard for your charge minions, you can counter Frost Nova with them and of course if you really want to hard counter that deck eater of secrets but your deck will be weaker vs anything else.
Elemental Mage can counter this because you can throw both minions and spells at the other mage. Plus you'll probably be picking up a number of random spells extra or sitting on some unused fireballs, and your own ice block can throw a wrench into his game plan.
Dirty Rats before he gets the quest done. Make sure you have immediate removal. Might get lucky and pull the Archmage, or the little brats he has to clone for free spells. May also have Arcane Giants or Alexstrasza in that deck as well.
Some comments in other threads say running Eater of Secrets can spook mages as well. Handbuff Paladin might be able to squeeze one or two in without too much of a hit for a tech card.
I made this deck just for you off of the top of my head. It runs Counterspell to block one or two spells (including TIme Warp, maybe!) your opponent might acquire from outside his deck while slowing down Shimmering Tempest with Ironbeak Owl. You also have double Ice Block to survive Archmage Antonidas while taking the board with some basic elemental synergy.
Admittedly, this deck gets crushed by Quest Rogue and Quest Warrior, and many many other decks, no doubt, unless you happen to Counterspell the Quests themselves, and is likely bad against all other quests aside from The Last Kaleidosaur.
But, hard counter is asked for, so my best attempt at a hard counter is delivered. Thus:
What rank are you at? From what I've seen quest mage is mostly already phased out of the meta. It's way too slow to be practical and countered by many different decks
With mid range Hunter you just pop both their ice blocks and kill them long before they can complete their quest. Even frost Nova + Doomsayer doesn't stop your sticky minions and the hero power just keeps pressuring them
Ya know, I didn't think this thread was going anywhere, but I'm really pleased with the good ideas and the feedback being shared here. I bet if we keep putting our heads together we'll come up with a few solid answers to anti-quest decks.

After careful consideration, I think this deck is going to be more consistent against all quests, as it just has a better board presence than the earlier versions of this deck. Let me know what you think! Here 'tis:
It really doesn't matter what deck you play. Just jam 2 dirty rats in and time them right. Bait doomsayers to get them out of the way. Wait for them to play all their draw minions. When they start floating 2-3 mana over playing things, it probably means they have no more in hand
Dirty rats are more than a tech choice against TTK mage. They're also great against pirates or quest rogue and a solid minion overall especially if you're playing a class with cheap hard removal
Literally 3/5 games (up to 70+ games played so yeah its a lot) are Mage Quest "Sorcerers Apprentice + Archmage" combo OTK.
Just tired of fighting it and want a deck that hard counters it.
many decks beat this combo deck. It's mainly aggro decks that will win you the game, but decks like Cubelock and Controlock are good too. Shaman sadly isn't that strong in this meta to counter this deck.
I play control warlock with Rin, the First Disciple and two Stonehill Defenders. I haven't played the deck long enough to encounter quest mage, but I can imagine that the matchup could end up relying on who achieves their goal first: You destroying their deck, or them assembling the combo. Not a very good counter, I admit, but it's a living chance.

just make sure you don't run Doomguard. You know the risk.

Haha, I don't. It's not cubelock, it's a really heavy control-lock with Voidlord as the only demons and N'Zoth, the Corruptor. Just beat a tempo rogue that shadowstepped his Prince Keleseth on turn 1 by summoning a board of Voidlords two turns in a row. Felt good.

Much better tech in this meta is Black Knight.
Aside from the current cancer decks ...

Oh good ideas thanks !!!
Dirty rat on turn 9 is a lock to pull one of their pieces. Remove it and win!
Professional Poker Player trying to make it in Hearthstone. I am the opposite of f2p.
A fine point! I forgot about dirty rat, I don't have any in my collection, but that would do it!
