Hi. I played Hearthstone in May/June and wasn't too hot on it. I played Mage/Priest/Paladin and found them boring and limited as I hadn't had any exposure to the concepts of synergy and combination.
I recently returned and have fallen in love with the Shaman class after doing some reading regarding deck building theory. I found an older deck for new players on another site and started building on it. I wish I could properly credit the original author of the deck but I honestly can't remember where I found it. Here's what I've come up with after making some of my own changes:
It works great in unranked battles and it's gotten me to rank 18 (I know, not that impressive to some of you) but it lacks something to help prevent fast decks, like face hunter, from running away with the board early.
I expect my hero to take ~20 points of damage before I'm able to throw out my taunts and get my buffs lined up to blast through my opponent's hero. Unfortunately, losing too much control too early puts me in an unrecoverable position.
I have considered some of the low-mana / high-overload clears available but they leave me in a deficit mid-rounds when I need to be building taunts and damage dealers for the final blast.
I intend to try different mixes to see if I can't find a nice fit but was hoping some of you more experienced folks might have advice.
Shaman is a bad class even if you have more cards. I'd recommend something like F2P mage, tempo mage or zoo for beginner. Maybe you could elaborate on what you meant by "synergy and combination". Right now, shaman is the least synergetic class.
Play shaman if that's the class you want to play. Most obvious thing I see here is no Lightning Storm. This can save you big time from a losing spot. Get those in as soon as you can.
Honestly, its just one of shaman's weakness's, and in the basic set there isn't many mechanisms to stop aggro. About the only things I can suggest (assuming you have barely any cards, which is fine) is the other Haunted Creeper (which should probably be in anyway) and Elven Archer maybe as a one-of because its quite a weak card in other matchups. Zombie Chow is the quintessential constructed anti-aggro card but thats in the 4th wing of Naxx I think and would take more commitment to get. Other cheap options you may/may not have include: Argent Squire, Healing Wave, Annoy-o-Tron, Wild Pyromancer and also Lightning Storm to lesser extent but this is a card that is also good against a lot of other zoo-ish decks.
Maybe you could elaborate on what you meant by "synergy and combination".
I'm probably using the terms outside of the standard way they're used in the Hearthstone community. When I think of synergy in Hearthstone, I think of the way the different cards within the deck are all (hopefully) capable of working together over multiple turns. By combination, I'm just thinking of two or three cards working together in a single turn. Either way, maybe the reason I'm enjoying Shaman so much is that it's less synergistic than other classes and therefore easier for me to figure out.

Yeah, I have 170 dust and they're 100 a piece. I've been hesitant about popping the dust for one as I don't like relying on a single card in my deck. As soon as I pick up the other 30 dust I'll get them.

You really thought I had something interesting to say at the bottom of my posts?
