Loatheb, which is played sololy for the battlecry, well it is played a lot, yet it's battlecry lasts a single turn. This last forever
Loatheb is certainly not played only for the battlecry. 5/5 for 5 mana is decent value and the battlecry is exceptional which makes it a great card overall. 6/3 for 6 is horrible value so the battlecry needs to be outstanding to make up for it. Tough to predict at this point. I would put my feeling at cautiously optimistic.
Loatheb would still see play as a 0/1. It is not played for the stats, at all. The fact that 5/5 for 5 is good is irrelevant, you can argue that it makes Loatheb better overall which is true, but this is not the reason it is played.
And 6/3 for 6 isn't that bad seriously, it deals with 5/5, 6/5 stuff that is VERY common, and if it dies at least you removed that annoying Frostbolt from the opponent's hand. Honestly I like it better as a 6/3 than a 3/6. Because 3/6 can't do shit if you're ahead, 3 face damage isn't threatening, and it won't trade efficiently with the 6/5 stuff if you're behind.
However if you're behind with a 6/3, you can trade with at least one big minion, and if you're ahead this is 6 face damage.
If you're losing, 6/3 won't do shit of course, but 3/6 won't do shit either. Take a look at Gazlowe.
There's no way that Loatheb would see any play as a 0/1.
The reason why Gazlowe doesn't see play is because he has both shitty stats and an effect that requires you to build a bad deck around.
