Got up to D1 and 2 stars, and was thinking today might finally be the day. Queue up and get a Priest, as well as they get the coin. I mulligan hard, but no secrets in my initial cards or after mulligan. But I did have both Kabal Lackey's so figured it wouldn't be too bad. I then went 10 turns, and the only secret I got by then was the Rigged Faire - which was the one secret I didn't want with a hand full of cards needing a secret to activate.
I know it's all in the "random" shuffle of the cards, but that one really hurt :-(
Would be curious to know how many games you had to play from D5 with that deck to get ahead. I'd be concerned about the number of Murloc Shaman and Pirate Warrior decks that can clean your field faster than you can kill theirs. Or maybe the MMR doesn't pull them up as much if you're playing Paladin as opposed to Mage :-)
Its ONLY hard because the Cancer decks are refined and in full blown BS mode. Its not the players. Nothing to do with it. Its 100% based on matchup and early draws. The games are so one-sided usually that they are over by turn 4-5, even in control games. Conceding is usually a great time saver and probably increases your win rate. Legend is a function of grinding a cancer deck. Nothing more.
What deck are you using?
I've been using a Secret Mage deck, but agree it seems like unless I get one of the good secrets out on Turn 1 or 2 (so have to have coin and/or the right minion/spell) that I rarely can grind through to a win. I'll keep in mind that I may just need to be willing to drop faster to have more time to win when I'm favored.
I wasn't sure if I should say anything further on this, but after the last two days I'm feeling like I should say something. Have played 43 games since I hit D1 and 2 stars. I am playing the same deck that got me up there. Out of those 43 games, I have lost 35. I have been up against folks using Legend backs 16 times, and have faced off mainly against Priests, Demon Hunters, and Shaman with a couple mirror and a couple Druids for "flavor". Only one Rogue, but unfortunately for me they were playing the Crystal quest and had the right pirate and spell to complete the quest on turn two.
Basically at this point I'm feeling like trying to make the climb was a huge mistake. I'm sure I'll be told I should just "get good", and perhaps I really was only lucky to get that far. But it does feel a little broken to put in that effort and see so few results from it.
FWIW I'm back to D4 and 3 stars, and still trying to make the climb, Just feeling like it's much less likely I will succeed.
In case anyone wonders if it's REALLY that hard to get to Legend. I would vote yes :-)
Any particular version of Odd Paly you recommend? I'm up to D2 now, and so far have only seen one of these so it's a little hard to get a feel for what makes the deck go.
Well, just had a "fun" server issue where I had finally gotten all three stars on D5, and then beat a Shaman, and rather than move up to D4 with 1 star it told me "You can't drop below this level".
Pardon me while I go take a moment to shed a few tears...
Have made it to Diamond 5 for only the second time since the new Ranking Ladder came out, and am thinking with a couple weeks left this may be my chance to finally make Legend.
I understand that once you pass D5 you no longer get extra stars for win streaks, right? So any suggestions for getting through the slog? Better to go with a fast deck to get you through more games in a day, or a slower deck with a slightly higher win rate? Any other suggestions?

Thanks for the suggestion.

FWIW, got up to D1 with 2 stars, and then back and forth, taking a break at D1 with 1 star. Have never seen so many Priest decks in my life :-)
