No, glide would not be good in a control meta. Four mana to conditionally draw four cards is actually very slow right now. With an otherwise empty hand demon hunter can pay two more mana to draw three cards and reduce their cost to zero or reduce their cost by three; they can also spend two mana and draw three while playing a 1/3 minion that must be killed. Rogue literally spends one mana to draw four cards.
If played on turn four, glide sacrifices an entire turn worth of tempo and could actually help a control player stabilize. If played on turn eight, there is a good chance the control player has already stabilized or lost. I guess glide could grant demon hunter mediocre turns 5, 6, or 7.
Glide is also a terrible card to get in a mirror matchup.
Comparing things like what rogue can do or what the other card draw options are, while ignoring the other obvious point of glide is just poor card comparison. If glide was just “4 mana: Shuffle your hand into your deck and draw 4” it would obviously just be meh.
The point of glide is, for the next year and a half, Demon hunter has control/combo protection. And you’re somewhat right about the point about control, but there are A LOT of situations where you drawing 3-4 cards and your opponent losing 3-4 cards will win you the game. And it’s obvious benefits against combo couldn’t be more apparent.
I mean the card, in quite often situations against slower, heavier decks, is literally a 1 for 6-7. A ONE FOR 7 for four mana. When you consider that even a little bit, it’s uses and obvious strengths become glaring.
There is actually not a single card, in all of hearthstones history, that has that type of value potential for that mana cost.
Edit: But against aggro, or in any situation where glide is drawing cards for your opponent, it is obviously bad. Which is the entire point of the counter-meta argument being made here.
I love how stupid these posts are. These posts literally take things at face value and don’t dive any deeper beyond that. You do realize that everyone agrees that glide is bad in an aggro meta? With aggro decks and bomb warrior running around, of course it’s bad.
If the game shifts, and it may very well, to a control meta, it’s going to be absolutely insane. Control decks that are constantly gripping 7-9 cards will get destroyed by it, the meta is just not at this point currently.
God these posts reveal so much about people’s understanding of the game.
Edit: Control AND combo metas. I’m sure people are aware of maly Druid. It’s not played that much now, but if it was... Oh, you just jepetto’d and drew your combo? Glide.
