I have one more observation on this topic. Notice what happened to the Millhouse after his last nerf. He used to be god tier before, now he's average at best. Why such a small change (tavern upgrade costs +1 gold) made such a big difference? Because in BG quality beats quantity and now it's apparent even more than ever before.
Millhouse allows you to easily flood the board with lots of minions, but if the quantity does not match the quality, at some point (rather quick) your advantage will be diminished. How can you prevent that? Well, you "only" need to get some good rolls...
If RNG is not on your side in BG, then your situation is difficult. If RNG is not on your side AND you play as Millhouse, then your situation is dire, because your re-rolls costs twice as normal and you have 50% less chance of finding what you are looking for. That's obviously critically bad.
In my opinion this proves, that even cheaper minions (which in theory look super strong) cannot compete with tribe synergies and stats stacking from very early turns. In fact, nothing can. And where do those come from? From RNG of course (tavern rolls and sometimes from hero power). Also that's why skill is not critical factor in this game. Yes, it can help, but only if RNG doesn't get in your way. Otherwise, nothing can be done to overcome it.
You simply need to RNG your RNG against their's RNG's RNG... RNG!
More seriously though, there's not much you can do I guess, since no amount of skill can overcome low rolls. You just need raw power to survive early / mid game and if tavern gives you rubbish, then you'll struggle. Even streamer with 10k rank wont win with low rolls against high rolls.
BG is very primitive autobattler and unfortunately lacks flexibility. There is no gold accumulation, no stats passing between minions, no items, no spells (with few exceptions like bananas and secrets), not much synergies between different tribes... pretty much nothing.
Do you think this will change with future updates?
Honestly? No. Blizzard's policy is to keep everything simple, because in their minds it's what attracts wide audience. In my opinion however, they confuse simplicity with primitivism and randomness. If you give players more options, your game won't immediately become mind blowing puzzle, requiring IQ above 150. It's something that Riot Games understood a long time ago and that's why they stopped adding to League of Legends very simple champions with a very low entry threshold. Most of new heroes now require good understanding of game mechanics and a lot of practise but it pays off, because It's way better to win/lose because of skill/lack of skill than win or lose because of RNG (and RNG in LoL doesn't matter almost at all). LoL is now 10 years old, but it's still one of the most popular F2P game in the world and it still earns the most money in the F2P market. Blizzard should learn from this.
