That Drogon understood the complexities of Dany and the Iron Throne without having seen any of it felt a bit of a stretch but OK, Dragons are intelligent and magical so sure.
But how did Grey Worm not just instantly execute Jon on the spot? Like he would care about the Northern response. I was sure Jon would instantly be dead, as he is far too honorable to try and get away or something like that.
My own version:
I did image the entire thing to end differently due to vast conflicting differences between Jon and Dany and Jon being too honorable (just like Ned) to kill her for the sake of everyone else. I also would have preferred Rhaegal to have died in the Battle of King's Landing to give a Dany a more acceptable reason for snapping and giving some more realistic credit to the scorpions.
I imagined that between Jon and Dany the conversation would lead to Jon outright stating he cannot follow a queen that would burn cities to the ground that had already surrendered and were full of innocent people (and then Jon would be far more emotional and fuming about it). Dany would in turn consider him a traitor for it and try and have him executed in the Great Hall (to also ensure he can never take the throne from her as Aegon). Naturally Dany would use Drogon for this, but this time, Drogon (knowing Jon and seeing Dany act strangely) would hesitate, causing Dany to maddingly scream to burn Jon. The Northern forces present would try to intervene but are held back by Unsullied and Dothraki. Drogon now sees the madness in Dany's eyes and outright refuses to burn Jon, sending Dany over the edge that her own dragon won't listen to her.
Ordering Grey Worm to do it instead, Drogon then gets in between (as Jon is also a Targaryen) to defend him. Dany, lost in madness, orders Grey Worm to kill Jon anyway, causing Drogon to knock him away and the Unsullied to raise theirs spears against him. Drogon then looks at Dany, tearfully wondering if she would truly let them harm him. With Jon still in danger, Drogon lets Jon mount him and tries to slowly move away, causing Dany to get up and scream to the Unsullied to kill Jon, making them attack. Drogon angrily attacks back and burn some of them. Seeing how far her mother is now gone, Drogon whimperingly but with fury locks faces with Dany before melting the Iron Throne with his fire and moving off. Jon sees the Northern forces from Drogon's back and orders them to retreat and leave the city. With Drogon now effectively on Jon's side, the Unsullied and Dothraki can't prevent them from doing so.
Jon, having had more than enough of fighting and bloodshed, falls back to far outside of King's Landing with the Northern forces and Drogon, hoping that without Drogon and only half of the Unsullied and Dothraki (due to the Battle of Winterfell) that Dany can't make good on her vision of ruling the world. Jon orders the Northern forces to make camp some distance away from King's Landing and together with Drogon mourns the loss of the Dany they knew and loved.
Dany, fuming at the thought that her own dragon switches sides (to Jon of all people) only worsens her condition and sees them all as traitors. Grey Worm (still alive as Drogon only knocked him away) comes up with a plan to attack the Northern camp under cover of night, sneaking into the camp and bringing her Jon's head. The few remaining Dothraki would wait outside the camp and ensure no one escapes. Even though Jon now has Drogon and the Northern forces are still formidable, both Grey Worm and Dany are clearly lost to rage and Dany agrees to the plan.
During the following night, the Unsulled begin to sneak into the camp, killing anyone who may give them away. Grey Worm finds the main tent that is Jon's but finds it empty. Jon was unable to sleep with everything that had happened and is wondering outside the camp with his thoughts. Hearing some noises, he begins to return to the camp and is quickly spotted by the Unsullied. Before he can alert his men, Grey Worm throws his spear at him, which Jon can't completely dodge and is hit in the shoulder. Suddenly Drogon roars loudly, having been nearby covered by the darkness. His roar wakes up all the Northen men and a big melee ensures. Drogon defends Jon from any Unsullied as Davos and some Northern men reach Jon and tend to him as they see the Dothraki joining in with the Unsullied.
With Unsullied/Dothraki and Northerners mixed together in a big melee, Drogon can only effectively defend Jon as breathing fire would burn down the Northern troops as well. Jon sees this and has Davos order the Northern men to try and come together and form something of a battle line to give Drogon patches of Unsullied/Dothraki to target. This works only partially due to the chaos of combat but eventually Drogon is able to pick off enough Unsullied/Dothraki to force a stalemate as both sides begin to form battle lines.
With the Unsullied having failed to kill them all in their sleep, Jon (injured but alive) struggles to get near the front and orders Grey Worm to stand down, noting that Drogon will burn him and all of the Unsullied and Dothraki if he doesn't and that there has been far too much bloodshed already. Jon tries to appeal to Grey Worm that Dany has gone mad and that it should end here. Grey Worm, still competely loyal to Dany and tired of Jon's words and attempts at what he sees as weakness, throws another spear at Jon in defiance, but only hits another Northerner. Before Jon can even say anything, the enraged Northeners attack the Unsullied and Drogon burns the Unsullied/Dothraki rear with his fire.
By early dawn, Jon with the remaining Northenerns and Drogon stand victorious but again at a massive loss of life. Jon is still being tended too, looking completely (heart)broken having seen so much unneeded slaughter at the hands of his former love. With Dany now only having a token force to defend herself with and no dragon, Davos urges Jon to finish it for the sake of everyone. Jon clearly still struggles with the thought but realizes there is no other way and has his remaining forces and Drogon march back towards King's Landing.
Once there the remaining Unsullied still loyally attempt to defend their queen but are swiftly defeated. To Jon's surprise, what few Dothraki still remain are nowhere to be seen. As Jon and his forces move towards the Great Hall, Dany's screams and ravings slowly become louder and Jon's remaining composure begins to fall apart. Finding Dany sitting next to the smoldered mess that was once the Iron Throne and Drogon arriving through the massive gap in the Great Hall, Jon tells her tearfully that it's over. Dany, shaking and with madness and tiredness clearly in her eyes loudly raves to Jon at first but then aims her fury at Drogon. Screaming that he betrayed her and that it's all his fault and even throwing some rocks at him, Drogon can only whimper at his mother's painful and crazed behavior.
As Jon nears, one hand on Longclaw, Dany screams at him to do it, to murder his own queen in front her only remaining child (Drogon). Crying, Jon instead just hugs her, knowing full well that Dany is no longer any threat just by herself without no forces to command. As Dany raves and cries he orders Davos to put her in chains and lock her away, falling to the floor in despair with Drogon nearing in shared grief.
Jon then gathers with the remaining leaders and noblemen and discuss the future as a temporary new council. While many want Dany's head, Jon strongly denies this, once again stating that there has been enough killing and that Dany is no longer any threat and will remain in captivity under heavy guard for all time. The council then turns to who should now be king. Jon immediately states he never wanted the throne, even noting that there isn't even an Iron Throne to begin with. The council quickly notes however that many saw Jon trying to stop the carnage in King's Landing, is popular with both his men and the people and that many of the people believe that he is the one who stopped Dany by taking Drogon away from her. The people want him and Davos reminds him that if he wants to ensure peace and stop any further bloodshed, taking the throne is the best way to do it. Knowing Davos is right, Jon reluctantly accepts and is crowned King of the Seven Kingsdoms, ending hostilities and bringing peace to the realm.
Okay, that went on a bit longer than expected. Oh well.
no you misunderstand
Drogon flew up there, saw Dany with a knife sticking out of her chest, then spots the chair made of swords and puts two and two together :^)
All Hail Bran the Broken, Chief Autist in charge, rule on the iron wheelchair. Just imagining dealing with any sort of crisis would be hilarious "y'know I'M like...the three eyed raven and I don't care about any of this"
fucking hell, what a shitshow.
I'm not even upset anymore, just incredibly bored.
Arya was completely useless for basically 5/6 episodes, Jon is still a whiny bitchboy and now apparently a hippie. Grey worm just kind of goes on a vacation with the boys (what even are the DOthraki doing? Why would they follow him, why wouldn't they just go and pillage the countryside, it's not like anyone can stop them)
Remember when Bronn was sent to kill Tyrion, then did nothing for the entire season? Guess we needed a reason for him not to be in King'S Landing so he can be appointed to a position he's completely unqualified for.
Sansa basically just declared herself independent after her brother was named king...nepotism much? why even do that at all, your f***Ing brother is king, you're literally just creating an opposing center of power which will probably lead to more conflicts after you two have kicked the bucket
Arya just randomly decides to go full Columbus....I hope she dies of fucking scurvy.
oh yeah, why exactly was Tormund waiting at Castle Black? Did he just kind of hope Jon would come along at some point?
also props to them for cutting right after Jon killed Dany. Wouldn't want to actually show how veverything went down
"so...uh...this might sound weird...but I just killed our queen, then her dragon melted the iron throne and flew away with her corpse"
You'd think he would have been killed by a horde of angry svages and eunuchs at the spot, given how grey Worm literally commits war crimes on the daily at this point
Oh, also a big F*** YOU to all the people who went "but Dany just snapped and went insane, she doesn't make rational decisions". Well she seemed pretty in control of herself and blissfully ignorant of the genocide she just committed. I'd dare eeven say she was more erratic BEFORE she went supposedly "crazy"
Upon reaching the end of the show and finding that it was not as expected, the posters here have decided to go nuclear on the show destroy it completely.
Now it all makes sense.
congratz, after failing to make a coherent argument you basically throw it all away and go "nu-uh you're stupid"
I guess we finally found the target demographic of people literally incapable of understanding the process of writing and therefore will eat up any dog turd fed to them
I don't see why people are so obsessed with protecting Dany's image. She's always been a trigger-happy lunatic hell-bent on conquering westeros, and only held in check by her advisers.
that does not mean she is a deranged murderer who will literally genocide people just for being in her general vicinity.
She's a cunt, she's delusional and she tends to act on impulse.
There was no impulse for her to holocaust king's landing, all she had to do was burn down the red keep, killing Cersei in the process then have her dragon sit on the ruins while she declares herself queen. There is literally nobody in the entirety of king's landing who would protest that because they are busy shitting their pants after she basically solod an entire city stacked with defenses meant to prevent her from doing that.
It happened because the plot demanded villain Dany, not because it made any sense. It's literally the worst piece of character writing in recent history, worse than Luke Skywalker in TLJ or Nick Fury in Captain MArvel
Am I the only one who thinks that this episode is entirely consistent with Dany's character and tactics ever since she got the dragons (as per the show)? And that she's never really been "good"? She was tempered by her advisors but her tactics have always been direct, only really playing at wise. She doesn't truly believe the mad king did anything wrong. She calls herself by all sorts of titles, like any "liberation" movement leader. Her only real motivation has been to rule everything, by force if required. She's not loved or respected in Westeros, which is unfamiliar to her. She has lost her circle, or it is ineffective (in Tyrion's case). She's a power obsessed, delusional person with a cult of personality.
Worst part of the episode was Jaime, which seemed a simplification of his character arc, and how weirdly stupid Tyrion's has become. Otherwise, the episode was fine.
except she always adhered to some sort of personal morality. She never had any qualms about murdering those standing in her way, as seen by executing the Tarly's and Varys, both of which are at least somewhat consistent with her character.
but she had absolutely no reason to go full genocide. The battle was won, the defenses destroyed, she was pretty much invincible and all she had to do was go after Cersei, burn down the red keep (ignore collateral), sit on top of a wall and yell "I run this shit now".
No, instead she decides to murder her future subject despite not being provoked by them whatsoever. If she wanted to rule by fear, conquering the city single handedly in a day would have done the trick and she would know that.
The worst part is they could have easily written a more believable scenario, but they chose not to because that'd require effort.
What you said about Dany is true at the same time it isn't. The rule in the show is that Targaryans are nutcases. Dany lost her mind because she has the Targaryan gen. She was a time bomb, wich exploded this episode.
Except it isn't. In the show there are more perfectly sane Targaryens, than insane ones.
wasn't the Mad KIng the only insane one...like...ever.
Viserys wasn't insane, he was just kind of a dick with delusions of grandeur. Rhaegar was perfectly normal.
Yeah there's really mostly sane targaryens and the entire point of Dany was to overcome the stigma of her heritage, but ofc she doesn't because "muh symbolism and reincorporation"
I remember when Luke Skywalker turned evil at the end of Return of the Jedi because it was kind of implied.
But hey, anything to get the plot going, even if it means having a character commit unnecessary war crimes that would make even Adolf HItler denounce you.
Holy fucking shit what an absolute shitshow. I mean, I didn't expect much anymore and they still managed to disappoint.
How do you follow up episode 3 and manage to get even worse?
So we start off by firing Varys because he is the last smart character left in the show and we can't have that. Everyone is surprisingly okay with this.
Then we start the battle with some quick maths:
1 Scorpion vs Drogon = taken out of combat with one hit, taking two shots
about 5 scorpions vs Drogon & rhaegal = instant kill with triple bullseye
ALL THE SCORPIONS vs Drogon = incapable of doing anything
all the previous set up of "the odds are frighteningly even" are thrown out of the window. The entire Night King plot therefore had ABSOLUTELY NO POINT and if you ignored that it happened ABSOLUTELY NOTHING would change.
Drogon has also upgraded his fire breath to a disintegration beam that explodes on impact. There is no explanation. MEanwhile the Dothraki have learned the power of mitosis and multiplied of screen. They still fail to factor into the battle except for one scene.
Arya is determined to killl Cersei despite it being pretty clear that Cersei will not survive anyways. She immediately gets talked out of it by the HOund, who for some reason is really determined to kill his brother. This has nothing to do with his arc. He goes on basically a suicide mission to get revenge, despite him barely even mentioning it before. His entire story was about changing him from a lonely nihilist to someone who actually cares about certain people...but no, Cleganebowl has to happen. It wouldn't make sense if he just followed Arya and 1v1d the mountain to let her follow Cersei or something...nnah he's just gonna do his Mortal Kombat shit, because fuck it, his character has been dead in the books for a long time so it really doesn't matter whether he has an actual consistent characterization or not.
Also, for some reason the Mountain conveniently decides to have some desire to fight his brother despite being a braindead zombie. There is no reason for this other than Cleganebowl. Did they forgot that the Mountain doesn't actually hate his brother? He pushed him into the fire as a kid and is just a dick. He doesn't give a fuck about him otherwise. There's literally no reason why he would abandon his post just for a 1v1.
Dany goes from 0 to insane for no reason at all. There's literally nothing to provoke her. She destroyed all the scorpions and all she has to do is burn down the Red Keep. Instead she decides to do a little Holocaust just because. After all, we only have one episode left and we need a reason for her to die. Also we conveniently never actually cut to her while genociding so we just have to assume she's laughing maniacally, her hair has turned green, she has the words "damaged" tatooted on her forehead and talks about how "all it takes is one bad day"....presumably
we also get to follow some random orphans on their way to their extremely predictable death, because we have to manufacture drama somehow.
Arya has upgraded her Faceless Man game and instead of stealing faces she stole Euron's plot armor. He still had enough to casually swim up to shore and run into Jaime only to attack him for no reason. What is Euron's motivation? Previously it was that he wants power...then it was that he just wants to bang the queen. HIs character is non-existent, but apparently he's still important enough to not just get axed by the dragon.
Jon Snow continues to be useless as usual. For some reason all the Lannister soldiers still want to kill him though. His character at this point can be summed up by "I don't want to"
We no longer like Grey Worm. the Northerners are apparently psychopaths who commit war crimes the instant they have the opportunity too. Nobody tell the writers that the main reason why raping and pillaging happens is because the soldiers basically went through hell and have lost their humanity. these soldiers barely even fought anyone, they steamrolled a few confused soldiers and that's it. There is literally no reason for them to do anything of the sort, but hey, the dickless man with a hatred for helmets threw a sword so I guess it's time to go berserk.
Oh yeah and Tyrion again wanders around battlefields looking concerned
Arya continues to be punished for Killstealing and is rendered useless the entire episode. Instead, the coldblooded, downright inhuman assassin gremlin now becomes the audience stand-in to showcase the horrors of war. As a parting gift from the lord of light for doing such a good job she gets a horse to ride into the sunset. There is no symbolism. It's just ********.
Did I miss anything?
You missed Cersei and Jaime dying in the most anti-climactic way possible, because D&D once again subverted our expectations by having them killed by none other than, wait for it... falling rocks! On top of that Jaime's entire character arc is now completely ruined because he has ended exactly where he started back in season 1 when he was a completely different person. I guess he was scared of having to fuck Brienne for the rest of his life instead of Cersei who was actually good at it?
Other than that, great job, I agree with everything.
I have to admit, I actually liked her ending, partly because no matter how it was set up there wouldn't have been a satisfying death for her. Arya killilng her? Cool, but ultimately boring, Dany roasting her? Same.
I like that in the end it showed Cersei to still be human. I mean, she was basically sure she was going to win (and she would have if not for plot convenience) so having her witness her own downfall and realizing it was kind of poetic.
On the other hand Jaime was completely ruined as a character, but hey, at least we know whoever wrote the prophecy was a dyslexic moron who can't tell the difference between "dies by her brother's hands" and "dies in her brother's arms"
Go easy Nightmare, I'm trying to get in what I hope is just an amusing anecdote without the thread being shut down.
But yes, exactly that Chuck Wendig.
wouldn't worry about it, I don't think the mods really care about how much we shittalk here.
Also, imagine watching this trainwreck of an episode, thinking about it, and then coming to the conclusion: "the problem with this is how the women are portrayed"
What you said about Dany is true at the same time it isn't. The rule in the show is that Targaryans are nutcases. Dany lost her mind because she has the Targaryan gen. She was a time bomb, wich exploded this episode.
As an aside, what a shit message this is. "You'll never be able to be a better person because you're destined to be crazy", fuck off with that nonsense. Fun that Jon gets to completely avoid any hint of madness and just gets to fail his way through life.
that'S probably because Jon is at this point completely impotent and unable to do anything of value.
........you've never seen someone suddenly snap and lose their shit in real life? At a certain point, you no longer can keep it together and all the emotions you've been trying to calm all come back to the surface and you stop being rational. I don't know why it's so hard to believe, since that's how it actually works.
Right, but they still follow some semblance of logic. She snapped, we get it, yet her "emotions she's been trying to calm" were against Cersei, not millions of innocents. If she snapped, she would have gone straight to Cersei and the red keep and burned it down. She's been trying to save the masses all 7 seasons, and you're saying she snapped and decided, I'm going to spend 30 minutes burning this city down in a rage and kill everyone I've tried to protect, meanwhile my true enemy just sits up in a tower right there and I'll ignore her?
Also, let's not forget she "snapped" right at the point she f'ing won. The city bells were ringing in surrender, she won, this would NOT be the time she would snap. If she was to snap, it'd be after Mellesendai or the dragon died, not when she won what she spent her whole life trying to achieve.
It's dumb, and just a gimmick so they can have Jon kill Dany at the end (there's absolutely no other resolution for the series at this point), and then say "see, GoT was never predictable to the end!" even though all the other shocking moments were actually, you know, seamless and in character for everyone involved, and helped /push/ the narrative instead of flip it on its head.
I get the impression you've never experienced this anger yourself. It's not logical.
in which Kaladin reveals himself to be a deranged psychopath who will burn down schools if he stubs his toe

My favourite part was when Tyrion and Jamie were in a random room together and Bron just walks in with a crossbow to threaten them, then leaves again. Where were they? Who let him in? What is love? Baby don't hurt me
Didn't even notice that Starbucks cup.
Also the Dragon death felt incredibly lame. The last time it happened it was, at the very least genuinely out of the blue and had an impact. Here it's just like "ah shit, here we go again" He just died in what wasn't even a real battle. Dany is apparently canonically blind now since she can't spot a fleet of giant ships, one of which has literally WINGS FOR SAILS on a clear day from a mile high.
oh and also...how did Missandei even get captured exactly? they sunk the boat, everyone else managed to swim to...some shore? except her? Fucking Varys managed it and he's a chunky boi.
then there's the whole execution thing. No tension whatsoever because both sides were like "unconditional surrender now" so we knew that wasn't going to happen so Misandei was dead for sure. Cersei not killling Tyrion for the xth time because the plot needs to reward his idiocy
Also apparently we can just arrange meetings now without any setup. Remember how last season Dany brought her whole army + dragons and all of King's Landing was in alert mode. I guess now we don't have the budget so we get leftover Unsullied with Drogon literally sitting in the open, making himself a big target for the scorpions which we established can apparently 3-hit dragons, despite last season a direct hit barely put one out of commission. Oh and said scorpions weren't even pointed at the dragon. He could have literally just obliterated anyone on that wall and there's fuck all they could have done about it.
At the very least I did somewhat enjoy the Tormund scenes. they actually made him more than just a punchline for once. Anything the Hound does is basically just fanservice at this point, but at the very least he's still a likeable character.
Also Varys and Tyrion finally figuring out that Dany is has been a giant cunt for the last 2 seasons.
It's really confusing to me....the character interactions and most of the dialogue are actually still pretty decent, but for some reason they cannot for the love of god write coherent battle scenes. It's not even like they had to do much....just not...that? Was it too much to ask that Dead Dragon #2 at least went out in an actual battle? It's like they're doing everything to nerf Dany just so the fronts are equal...but they already were given how OP the scorpions and Euron's aim is. They could have written a different plot for how Misandei got captured, then have her death (portrayed in a much less stupid scene) be the reason for the final escalation in which dead Dragon #2 actually gets to do something before getting spiked with bolts.
I was hoping that after the whole Night King fiasco we would get at least 3 more episodes of actual game of thrones....but no. We got this filler bs that did nothing to advance the plot, we got a meaningless death that barely had any weight because the character hasn't done anything outside of fucking Grey Worm for the last two seasons...and now we're just waiting for the final battle where another bunch of less important characters die, then a couple main characters die, then Arya kills Cersei (or Jaime kills Cersei) and then we have some random ending that "totally subverted our expectations"
Just goes to show how hype can kill a good show. At some point the masses just eat everything up to the point where the writers don't even need to care anymore to rake in cash.

It's literally the worst piece of character writing in recent history, worse than Luke Skywalker in TLJ or Nick Fury in Captain MArvel

except she always adhered to some sort of personal morality.
The worst part is they could have easily written a more believable scenario, but they chose not to because that'd require effort.

wasn't the Mad KIng the only insane one...like...ever.

On the other hand Jaime was completely ruined as a character, but hey, at least we know whoever wrote the prophecy was a dyslexic moron who can't tell the difference between "dies by her brother's hands" and "dies in her brother's arms"

wouldn't worry about it, I don't think the mods really care about how much we shittalk here.
Also, imagine watching this trainwreck of an episode, thinking about it, and then coming to the conclusion: "the problem with this is how the women are portrayed"

that'S probably because Jon is at this point completely impotent and unable to do anything of value.

It's just retarded.
Did I miss anything?
I tried having fun once. It was awful.
when all the CGI budget got burned for dragons so you don't have to fight for your life in some incest-riddled shithole
I tried having fun once. It was awful.
