I dont play Paladin, but for me fun means also winning the games. Climbing the ladder susscessfully. I would rather be rank 2 with strong and maybe less attractive deck than be stuck and rot in rank 10 with some funny deck...I ended up November as a rank 3 player and Im happy about it so I can simply enjoy the fun in this game. Of course Im sometimes playing also less strong and more fun decks, but only in Casual mode or maybe even Arena, but not for Ladder and climbing.
Could You try to explain to me, what so spectacular You find in ending with high rank while playing boring auto played decks? Yes it is fun for You to win and all. But why? What's your thinking process behind it?
You can't be that naive right? Winning is fun. I get that you're trying to belittle his way of playing the game, but it frankly just makes you look stupid. Let me explain his thinking process to you, as I'm sure you probably know as well: He likes winning. He enjoys beating people in a competitive environment. For some people, winning is more fun than messing around with bad decks at lower ranks. Different people, different tastes.
It only makes you look stupid and one-sided to think that winning is all that matter. And if for some1 it's all that matters then he's missing bigger picture and parts of having fun that are actually more relevant and provide more joy. Maybe you'll understand it one day. For some people it just comes later :)
Why do you even bother when winning is not important to you? Let them have fun with their boring decks and you can use your creative new experimantal Buff mage. You figured out how you can have fun losing, he has fun winning, seems to me like a win-win situation...
I don't think it is the only thing. But I personally, for instance, like winning. And if I have a Paladin win Quest or I would like playing Odd Paladin (which I sometimes do), I would play it, in particular if it increases the chances of winning.
Fun is a pretty subjective thing ...
If i had the paladin win quest, id make a lynessa immortal prelate deck, utilizing all the new shiny cards to try and do spectacular things. I would not mind if it took me longer time to get the win, id have fun building a kick ass deck while eventually reaching the objective. Like i said, i dont get why some people just "play to win". It seems unbearably boring to me. And while i was doing this, id make people i played on the ladder go "eeeyyy a new deck, thats cool!".
As I said, fun is pretty subjective. But at least you got your answer.

Winning against unrefined decks that likely can't handle the pressure?
