It's basic supply and demand. Amazon raises the price when they have sold 'too many' coins and lowers the price when they want to sell more coins. They want to keep it at a certain level on their side because they think it will give them maximum profitability. *shrugs*.
Indeed, the economics for Amazon Coins seem to make it fairly close to that of an admixture of a cryptocurrency as well as a regular currency. This can be a rather mixed blessing because some folks have not heard of it so the widespread adoption of it hasn't happened as rapidly as folks have done, say, bitcoins. But still the Amazon branding brings with it a strong legitimacy and it's just a matter of time before many people decide that Amazon Coins is worthy as an universal platform for folks to buy stuff in game.
The key nature is whether Blizzard will adopt Amazon Coins or form a solid partnership with Amazon to try to bring up to speed this currency. However, Blizzard has its own currency through the Battle.net balance system and tie into other in-game currency such as WoW gold or Hearthstone points could make things a tad more difficult as Blizzard tries to expand its own currency into other games such as Destiny 2.
It seems a little suspicious to me. I'm starting to wonder if they're raising prices for a last minute deal where it suddenly drops to a really low price. I'd say it's still worth checking out pretty frequently.
Not necessarily. Like any virtual currency, Amazon Coins is subject to the same regulations/economic rules as real-world currency tied in to the regular stock market. Granted it's a new form and folks do have a right to be suspicious of it. However, I found that more key is that people are going to be using it as it gains momentum with folks who game a lot and have to use a standard method of procuring add-ons to popular mobile games or MMO's.
Yes, keeping track can be rather tough but I suggest this link as an indicator of how much savings that an average person would be getting: http://www.hearthpwn.com/coins.
That's a perfect way of putting it. Also, thank you for posting that link for convenience. I think it might also be worthwhile to keep an eye out when other games that use coins (Final Fantasy Brave EXVIUS, Summoners War, Game ofWar) are about to have huge updates. That may also lead to a strong sale in Amazon Coins.
No doubt. I hope that Amazon Coins expand to MMO's as well such as WoW, SWTOR, etc. so that we can have a one-stop shop for everything in game :)
Oh absolutely! I really would love it for FFXIV as well. All in all, I'm super thankful Amazon has come up with this method of payment. It's made everything so much more convenient.
What would be brilliant is if the MMO companies gathered together so that we could translate goods/credits from one MMO to another. Like whether I can farm gold in WoW, translate it into Amazon Coins, then bring that into SWTOR when I need to.
Gah I hate Amazon coins, I never buy enough when they're cheap. The current discount sucks. But we have a few more weeks until the 20% thing kicks in.
Edit: Also what does everyone mean they can't buy with coins? I jut checked it with my Hearthstone app downloaded through Underground, I totally can! And I'd get 500 coins back. But I'm waiting for the 22nd - 25th when I get 1000 coins back!
Yes, I agree that with the virtual currency fluctuating that things can get a tad bit crazy trying to keep up but it's worth it when you find a solid bargain with Amazon coins then it's worth it. It's very similar to stock prices where supply and demand can drive the prices around indeed.
I was able to pre-purchase using Amazon Coins (NA servers). Pre-purchasing costs 4999 coins, but after tax it's closer to 6k coins. I don't think it's worth the hassle. The savings are negligible especially since you pay extra coins for tax, however this is for Amazon US. I'm not sure about other countries.
Was it a savings overall or just too much of a hassle to get the expansion via Coins within the US? I am thinking about pursuing that route myself.
I havent got an option to buy preorder by amazon coins, that why i asked should i have coins to have this option or i should have it anyway without coins on my account.
You can't buy the preorder with Amazon coins I think. Wait for the expansion to be released or buy it normally if you like the card back
Yeah, there isn't an option at the moment to get the expansion with Amazon Coins yet. However, I am holding out that soon it will be allowed.
Well, i just install MEmu emulator for Android, then isntall this Amazon Underground App and Hearthstone through the App. I create Amazon account and try to pre-order 50 KoFT packs... But there is no such offer like 30, 38 or 40 pounds for the packs. Through battle.net is 49.99 euro which is 39.40 pounds... and from Amazon Hearthstone is 44.99 pounds, then with amazon coins is even more 5000 coins are 47.50 pounds... Which is 5% save... And 10 000 are 92.00 pounds with 8% save. So how exactly can this be some offer for me to buy packs via amazon coins. I really don't get it.
Thanks in advance! I'm sorry about my english, hope you guys understand me. :)
Yes but 5-8% is still a huge savings if you add it all up for sure. A single order doesn't look like very much but whenever you buy around five to ten times the amount that you order then it will become much more significant.

It's an interesting place to be in with Amazon Coins right now. What it really all boils down to is whether or not your already have preordered the expansion and gotten the deal. While you might want more a better deal in regards to the coins, the preorder deal is still pretty strong with the 40 packs and all. If you've already gotten the deal, I'd still say it's worth it to check daily. I've recently come on to Coins for all of my games (FFBE, SW, Hearthstone). Ultimately, it's what you can afford and what you already have that should help you decide.
I agree with you there. It really helped if one got the pre-order expansion and this just consolidates everything together now.
Do you guys think any good amazon coin deals will come for the pre-purchasing of KotFT or should we just purchase it now? Right now 50k coins is going for $45.50, which is not much of a saving compared to other times.
For my Amazon Coins, I have standardized everything and done my transactions here at: https://www.amazon.com/Amazon-500-Coins/dp/B0096E8EPY/ref=green_alb_hsoco3. Granted, it isn't always a deal but at least having a consistent place to get virtual currency which can be used for procuring things within the Hearthstone app has been a blessing.
One of the key things to recognize is that virtual currency will fluctuate in value due to supply/demand so it's a matter of timing just to find when it's the best to pounce and click on the button to get the coins. But keeping tabs will help out substantially with that phase.
