It's so sad, one of my favorite archetypes since I started playing is in its worst state in the game's history. I was trying to put together a Death Knight or Healadin or just basic control and found it impossible as I realized what cards were gone:
In place we got Paragon of Light, which is harder to trigger than one would think. We got two unplayable Legendaries. An 8-mana weapon designed for use with zoo (!?). There is no win condition card like N'Zoth, the Corruptor. We got Blackwald Pixie. which cannot enable the OTK combo, you need to have knights stick on the board a turn for it to work.
Control Paladin has never been great (expect maybe a very brief N'zoth Pally period), but until now it has always been fun and playable. Now it is garbage, and that is really sad.
I understand, you are sad because a favorite archetype is no longer in standard. There are trade offs in most decisions people make. When Blizzard created the different formats the trade offs were cards would cycle out removing some decks to Wild to keep Standard fresh and renewing. The good thing is they let people play the decks they like in another format. Perhaps you would enjoy playing them in Wild.

That's what I'm doing, but I find wild to be less enjoyable---just feels disconnected from the meta
I feel the pain. I have a feeling that it'll come back next expansion though, because paladin has some good control tools in the evergreen set, like tirion and equality. All it lacks is a win condition for the control game, and it only takes one new card to create a viable win condition (think Shudderwock, jade idol, aluneth).
With Jades and the Gods gone, I think you can build a pretty strong lategame oriented evendin, and there is much left to explore! Control paladin hasn't really been a thing for a long time...
Then imagine being like me, my 3 favorite archtypes that have ever been in the game can't even be played AT ALL anymore - Not even in Wild...
RIP Patron, Worgen and Arcane Warrior :(
Patron is still sort of playable at lower ranks if you just want to take a nostalgia trip. Just make sure you have an alternate win condition to have a chance against control decks, like Gromm or an OTK package with Leeroy and faceless.
Oh and make sure you don't queue up against cubelock.
Can't say it's a very successful deck, but it's a fun deck. I've been considering crafting Valanyr for this.
Your deck has literally no cards. :D
I really want to make healadin work. I've found the loss of Forbidden Healing to be a killer against aggro. Also, still has the same problem against control decks that heal cards are dead in your hand most of the game because your opponent is not playing cards or damaging you.

... Wickerflame, Ivory Knight, and Forbidden Healing haven't been played for at least 3 sets lmfao it's not like this rotation hurt the archetype. Ragnaros was only seen in some lists in K&C. The rotation seriously didn't do anything to control pally. You can still make it work - hell Even Paladin plays like a control deck with EQ+Consec, Tarim, Spikeridged Steed, C2A, etc. It's not the "death of control pally" lol... it's not even a week into the expansion. Try new things.

I realize that. Nothing can truly replace the feeling of adding up whirlwind effect damage on your frothing to down a control warrior from precisely 73 HP. But if you want to play the deck that more closely resembles that, this is the best you'll get.
By the way, it doesn't play anywhere close to a midrange build. The only match ups where you will simply be playing for tempo and trying to set up a patron board are things like midrange hunter or druid, which don't have an easy way to deal with a big patron board, which you already played that way with pre-nerf patron anyway. Against control decks, your win condition will still be to try to get a one or two turn kill with a charging leeroy/gromm/whatever, after assembling combo pieces and thaurissan.
While I certainly wouldn't play this deck anywhere above rank 5, it can still make for some funny climbs until you reach that.

Well that's a problem because I'm currently 2 in Standard and 3 in Wild (trying to hit legend on them simultaneously) :P

I'm currently rank 2 in wild, but I did play the deck quite a lot earlier in the season. I guess what I'm saying kind of became irrelevant with the new rank reset system, as you will already begin at rank 4 either way, lol.
Suppose you can still use the deck as a counter queue to aggro, but there's way better decks for that, and playing patron against aggro isn't really that fun anyway.

I don't think you read what I wrote. Control Paladin has not ever been a top meta deck (except N'zoth Pally for a brief time), so of course you didn't see those cards often. It's always been playable and fun though, and people who did play it most certainly did run Wickerflame, Ivory Knight, Forbidden Healing and Rag. Now its not even playable for fun.

Nah, the fun part about Patron (and the other decks I mentioned) was that you had to constantly calculate your (charging frothing) damage while also surviving and using as small an amount of recources for your combo as possible... :P The currernt Patron doesn't have a lot of that :(
Try this list. I find it's probably the best we can get right now, poached from a Legend player. For anti-Cubelock tech I took out one of the Stonehills and one of the Applebaums and added Harrison and Geist.
Geist has the added advantage of being good vs Druids and Rogues as well.
Glass Knight actually isn't too bad. It's not great, but it's okay.
That said, yeah. Control Paladin is dead and will stay dead until they add a little bit more resource generation(draw or card generation) and removals (single target AND AoE), as well as a powerful late game finisher. Bit envious that Druid and Warlock have one while we don't, and I'm not a fan of how despite Paladin having had a Control element since forever they've been pushing Aggro.
And no, Control Paladin did lose heavily in the last rotation. N'Zoth is gone, most notably, which removes a late game wincon from the deck. Rag Lightlord is gone. Wickerflame was a really good early game stall card which enabled Corpsetakers as a really good midgame card (unless you want to include Chillblade Champion in your list. Ugh.). You lose Rallying Blade, which was in most cases just better than Truesilver, even in Control decks.
The loss of N'Zoth or the current lack of a late game wincon is huge. The lack of one means that the deck can't beat other control decks and has to play more like a midrange deck considering Cubelock or Hadronox Taunt Druid with Witching Hour will just demolish the living shit out of any Control Paladin deck. Then you start falling into redundancy problems where it's just better to cut the late game since you can't win if you go late anyway - and then you might as well just play aggro and not Control.
It's so sad, one of my favorite archetypes since I started playing is in its worst state in the game's history. I was trying to put together a Death Knight or Healadin or just basic control and found it impossible as I realized what cards were gone:
Early defense: Wickerflame Burnbristle
Healing/Removal: Ivory Knight
Huge Heals: Forbidden Healing, Ragnaros, Lightlord
On top of that, we lost N'Zoth, the Corruptor for a win condition, and both pieces of the OTK strategy in Burgly Bully and Auctionmaster Beardo
Worst of all, the beloved Holy Wrath - Molten Giant Combo has been hall-of-famed.

If you are in your first year of playing please read this post.
Dust does not burn a hole in the jar. Be careful what you craft, especially before and right after a rotation.
Welcome to the world where former handlock, oil rogue, freeze mage and(for the most part) control warrior players live in.
I feel the pain. I have a feeling that it'll come back next expansion though, because paladin has some good control tools in the evergreen set, like tirion and equality.
