We have a Mini-SNES here that comes with a bundle of games loaded onto the system's software. I decided to give Earthbound a shot. I was hopeful that it could turn out to be interesting/good, but I felt like the game was cheating me out of a good time while I only had one character with me. Spamming the A button to get through fights made the experience feel like a waste. After getting a second character in my party, I started to see an aspect of tactics and careful planning formulate. Since then, I've been spending quite a bit of time with the game and really enjoy it.
Before I started to enjoy playing Earthbound, I felt like I was being bombarded with shit charm that anyone could whip up. I've since come to appreciate it a bit. The game is choc-full of little moments that are kinda neat, and now I interact with just about everything.
Concerning the inverse, playing Borderlands 2, I was really enjoying the gun play. I was noticing more and more that the game was trying to be too much like the first game. What do I mean by this? There was a personality with the first Borderlands game that felt only just subtle, a charm that I wasn't really too caring for. Borderlands 2 tries too hard to feel cool, hip, like a Rock music video. The jokes in Borderlands weren't as forced, but Borderlands 2 really pushed the envelope hard, annoying me at every fucking turn. The gameplay also started to feel really damn boring. There would be points while I was playing where I would just stand in front of an enemy and let them shoot me, not giving a single fuck that I was taking damage. "Oh no, the enemy is shooting me. I might die, oh no." I ended up deleting my save and explaining to my friends my frustrations, with one of them criticizing me for wanting a game that's "Deep and intellectual", fuck you, you fucking idiot. (This is the same friend that reads comic books, criticizing me for wanting a better written game. He's such a dumb fuck, yet has the audacity to parade around this false sense of intelligence that he believes he has. Stuttering cunt became his ex-wife and he doesn't even know it yet.)
SO, got any games you'd like to mention that you didn't really enjoy before but do now? Any games you liked but hate now?
Towerfall Ascension. 1000000%. I first played the game by myself and didn't really like it. However, I got a controller and started playing it with a friend and holy fuck that game is the literal embodiment of hype. it's so fucking good.
As for other games that I loved in the same way, Streets of Rogue is also a complete gem. It's like Deus Ex where the game starts and you do something one way and then 10 hours in, you realize there's like 50 other ways to do the same task and it gets incredibly silly, such as squirting people with cyanide from a squirt gun or starting a gang war just so you can sneak by a single person.
As for games that I feel the opposite of this, probably AER, Memories of Old (atleast going by games I've played recently). When I first stumbled out of the initial area, the flight mechanics felt fantastic and they still do, but I slowly came to realize that the flight mechanics were the only good part of the game. Out of the 11 hours I've spent in game, maybe like 6 of them is me just dicking around with the flying mechanics. The game just feels like such a waste of potential.

I don't have something witty about this deck, I just like it because Malygos is fun.

Agreed. Towerfall is absolute crap single-player, and even the co-op mode is boring. Vs mode is where it's at. One of my favourite games of all time.

Co-op mode is my favorite mode though just because I've played the game a shit ton, but most of my friends haven't. As much as I like free wins to boost my ego, I also value my friendship and don't want to burn bridges. Not to mention it's also just fun to dick around and go for really ballsy strats in it too.
That being said, Versus does have some really silly shit you can do too, with my favorite being anti-grav perma-drill arrows and just turn the game into a bullet hell.
