Ugh, horrible experience.
So I was browsing hearthpwn with Google Chrome, suddenly it forced me to merge my account with a twitch account. Clicking the "do this later" button didn't work. Refreshing the webpage doesn't work. Clicking literally everything else doesn't work. Al....right, so head on to merging. I had a twitch account but forgot both username and password, struggled with it for a while, give up. Sign up a new account, merge, and voila, merged. And..... it keeps showing the "hey your account is merged sign in with twitch account" page. Reloading does not help. Entering "hearthpwn.com" into the url does not help. I need to clear all the browsing history and try again, and finally get back in.
Is it supposed to do that? Is it intentional to force me to merge and use a twitch account to login? I personally hate websites that shares account information and logins as I view this as very insecure. Everything works fine for now, but by god what an awful experience this is.
Edited: Please have the official response of Fluffflashor , which can be found down the pages, for your reference. Thank you. Also a big thanks to the staves' support.

Same issue. I fucking hate this shit.
the forgotten epics
Junkbot Frost Giant Luckydo Buccaneer Sea Reaver Darkspeaker Mini-Mage Blubber Baron Captain's Parrot Magnataur Alpha
I hate being forced, hate it. Screw this site
Same here. I just put in my long-lapsed twitch account to get it to shut up. If you're gonna force us to merge our Twitch, Curse, and Hearthpwn accounts, just make them all the same account and be done with it.
It's very annoying. Stop trying to force it on me whenever I login to Hearthpwn..
Think it was a bug, seems like its fixed now, it doesn't ask me anymore atleast.
Optional my ass.

Hey guys, I'm going to look into this. I haven't been told of any mandatory merging being required today and one of the site mods also has noticed the issue.
Okay it seems that we do indeed require you to login with a Twitch account now to use the site. I see we have a banner on another network site which mentions it, I've inquired as to why we don't have the same thing on here.
I understand we never posted anything here on HearthPwn leading up to this point and that it's frustrating. Heck, I too am learning about this for the first time.
As far as "account sharing" goes, we were acquired by Twitch last year so your Twitch info isn't really in the hands of anyone new. This will ultimately lead to better integration of things and having one less login to remember can be a benefit to some.
I'm sorry for the interruption guys!
Oh... good to know, I guess? Still, it would be better if we are informed beforehand if such plans are being implemented.
Anyway, thanks for clearing this up!

This is fucking bullshit. Had to create a twitch account ("fuckofftwitch" was already taken or not allowed), do this later takes the fucking piss.
Bollocks to this. Why do I have to create a twitch account? I can watch twitch without a stupid account.
You are going to make people very angry with this stupid shit.
I'll try and avoid twitch from now on if these are the stupid stunts they pull.
I only signed up for Hearthpwn to keep track of my collection via Innkeeper but if this bollocks continues you can gtfo. Idiots.
EDIT: Sorry about the language. But at least it's feedback, which you wanted!
EDIT2: Also, even if the "do it later" button actually worked (which it doesn't), that just means you would get asked about it every time you log in -> more people will be turned away from your site (EDIT3: If they even bother to come back after seeing this stuff first time they arrive, which is very unlikely). It needs a "I don't want to do this, never ask me again" option.
I can't agree more with everyone here. This is awful and a really dirty move.
The Innkeeper is the only reason why I merged my accounts.
Everything I'd say has pretty much been said already but this was an unwanted hassle. At least I already had a Twitch account to merge so I could make it in here to see what was going on.
My 2 cents: The correct move here is to do an emergency rollback. Properly announce the change, then roll forward sometime in the future.
All that this did is to make me hate Twitch, which I don't think is the intended goal.

Well all anyone needs to do to begin to hate twitch is to accidentally forget to hide the chat window ;) I'm sure lots of people visit twitch once, see the chat, then decide it's not really their cup of tea. Are you sure being associated/merged with twitch is a good idea?
The first time I heard about twitch (before I used to watch tournaments/Hafu has a decent twitch stream too) was when TerenceM got a load of racial abuse during a tournament.
EDIT: Forgot twitch is part of Amazon too, that splendid company which times people's toilet breaks and destroyed independent bookstores.

Edit: Check the post after this one.
Update: This was not meant to go live on HearthPwn tonight, though it will become mandatory in the future to merge your Curse/HearthPwn account into a Twitch account. We're looking into why it activated and I will likely have an update on that come morning. I'm not certain whether or not we're going to be turning off the mandatory account upgrade and waiting until the scheduled date to turn it back on (originally planned date I'm not aware of atm). Someone else may pop in and talk about it before I get a chance to.
As I said before though, I agree, we should have given you a heads up this is happening; this came as a surprise to me too tonight.
PS. The "Do it later" link was supposed to be removed during mandatory merging, we were also supposed to have a banner up on the site that mentions the change.
Speaking on a personal level for a moment, it makes sense to me to convert over to Twitch accounts and I applaud the effort. Curse was acquired last year by Twitch and earlier this year the site allowed you to login with a Twitch account. Having one identity for the same family of websites is less accounts for people to manage. Don't think of it as making a new account, consider it an account upgrade. You also aren't forced to do anything at all on Twitch, you can keep using HearthPwn as it is today. Just a slightly different logon form :D
Alright, I just received an update, right after I hit that damn submit button.
I'll chime back in once we've taken steps to turn it off and give everyone details on how you can go through the unmerge process. Thanks for your patience!
I'm back, did you miss me?
We've isolated the issue to one of our site nodes which wasn't behaving. We've taken it offline which prevents anyone from hopping onto it so all logins to HearthPwn accounts should now be successful.
This behaviour explains why a couple of people were able to get around it after previously having it break - they simple got routed to a different node!
How to Unmerge
It's quite simple to unmerge your Twitch account from HearthPwn account. Visit the following URL and click the link that says 'Merge with a different HearthPwn account'. This will ask you to confirm, click yes. After confirmation, you can login to your HearthPwn account as usual.
https://www.hearthpwn.com/account
Just to put it out there again, at some point in the future we will require Twitch logins. It hasn't been determined when that will be but I will make sure we give advance notice of it.
Thanks everyone for your feedback this evening and for staying patient with us while we looked into the issue. Have yourselves a good day, I'm off to get some rest!
