I got into a discussion the other day with somebody on the chat for a stream. I like CCGs/TCGs in general and at one point I asked the streamer if they play Infinity Wars, and a person in the chat said "Infinity Wars is a bad game". They gave no real justification for their statement. Why is it bad? because its not as polished even though it is in beta as well? Keep in mind I like both, but I play Hearthstone for different reasons. Hearthstone is a more relaxed game that anybody can get into since its significantly easier to play that presents itself well, where as Infinity Wars has alot of depth and does a really good job on helping you start off.
Infinity Wars gives you a free starter deck for every faction by playing the campaign. You also get free cards for playing through the campaign a free booster pack every time you level up(which I believe stops at level 40, but I could be wrong it could be higher, currently level 38 myself), three quests over the course in a week(new quests come up every two days, and the oldest one gets cycled out when you do), a free random card when you login as well as one when you play 3 matches in that day, etc.
Infinity Wars has all the game modes that Hearthstone has. It has constructed(both ranked and unranked), Rift Runs(which is draft, the equivalent of Arena), it also has Pauper which is a mode where only common and uncommon cards are able to be used in it, Singles where you can only put 1 of each card in your deck(probably the least popular I'd say), and Merged which combines your deck with your opponant's deck and you both fight it out with you both using the combined deck. I'm not into all of them, but different paces for different people, some people like some of the modes I don't.
Personally I like the cards alot more in Infinity Wars as well, they're more interesting. In Hearthstone most of the cards feel like different versions of each other.
1/1 with divine shield for 1, 3/1 with divine shield for 3, 3/3 with divine shield for 4(being very limited in my comparisons and not including anything with taunt or charge or some other attribute attached onto them as well, but you could even go that far);
1/1 for 1 with deal 1 damage, 2/2 with deal 1 damage for 3, 4/2 with deal 2 damage for 5, can't remember the stats for the one that deals 3 damage;
1/2 with taunt for 1, 2/2 with taunt for 2, 3/3 with taunt for 3, 3/5 for 4, 1/7 with taunt for 4, 5/4 with taunt for 5, 3/6 with taunt for 5, 6/5 with taunt for 6, 8/8 with taunt for 8;
There's just very few cards that adds something NEW to the game, even less so if you don't include epics and legendaries which won't be available to you initially. There's plenty more examples I could give for charge, windfury, raising attack, etc. Maybe this problem will fix itself once the game releases more sets. Infinity Wars DOES have 3 sets so with that comes more card variety.
So again I ask, can somebody explain to me in what ways Infinity Wars is objectively bad? the company who develops Infinity Wars are fixing bugs, improving the UI, etc. Is there something wrong in its mechanics?
Edit: Keep in mind, I'm not bashing Hearthstone, I just wanna hear your thoughts on whats wrong with the game that might make it "bad"
I like Infinity Wars, but I'm also big into TCGs of any kind.
Two main reasons, why a lot don't like IW (and other Digital TCGs): 1. Interface Hearthstone has a great userfriendly Interface. Sure, it has tons of eyecandy, but it is good looking eyecandy. Add warmer colours for additional benefits.
2. Complexity Unlike most other TCGs, a Hearthstone Match can indeed be played in less than 10 minutes. Having 15 Minutes? Well, just play a game of Hearthstone. Gap filled, fun. Also Hearthstone has a rather streamlined gameplay. It is rather easy to understand how cards work, and how to combine them. And again, the Interface is very helpful in assisting here.

I can't stress how important this aspect is to me. I grew up a fan of Magic and transitioned into MTGO later in life when I no longer lived around friends who played physical. They released a new client v3.0 that was a drastic interface change - I went from a person who would spend 100$'s a month at times to selling my entire collection and quitting for absolutely no other reason than I could not stand the new interface.
IW doesn't have a terrible interface but I'm not really in love with it either - I like the animation on the cards but that is basically it. I'm a kickstarter backer for Hex as well and from what little I played with the Alpha I can say that if they don't clean up the interface I don't see myself playing it a heck of a lot.
Honestly I agree, that pretty much every other Online card game I messed around with, the problem was how terrible the interface was. If the interface for a game is clunky, the game itself feels clunky no matter how fun it is.
The only thing I liked in infinity wars is commmand zones. If there is a card (or 3) that you absolutely want to draw at some point in every game you can ensure that you get it. Everything else kinda sucks.

Define "Everything else", anything besides the interface like those before you suggested, and potentially complexicity?
I tried Infinity Wars and it seemed to be very complex without even jumping into the game. the screen was crowded by "random" (not so useful) things. the graphics are terrible. I disliked those animated things instantly. the animations between attacking/defending (1by1) seem to be absurd. the game might be fine for the specific group of players, but complexity is extremely risky nowadays. that's why Hearthstone is so successful, it's absurdly easy to jump in without any TCG experience and it still has its depth (just imagine if they would remove all those stupid random effects!).

What depth? I feel that when I normally watch people like Force, Totalbiscuit, and a variety of streamers, the stats are often more important to them than what the card actually does. What random things did you not find useful? by "animated things", you mean the animation on the cards, or are you referring to the "attacking and defending" which you go into more detail on? Also I have to ask, when people say interface is the hugest problem, what do they mean? Do they mean the out-of-game interface, or the in-game interface? I would like it if people went into a little more detail :)
The interface is not that bad. Simultaneous resolution of turns by all players means that effects are not seen immediately, but you can get used to it. I would say unnecesuary complexity kills the game. Simultaneous turns amplify the importance of guessing opponent move.
Also I feel the game is too swingy with some factions having the tech to get absurdly powerful creatures out of nowhere.

Personally I like it, the skill cap is alot higher and has more depth, as for the game being too "swingy", I like it. It feels like you have some weight behind your cards, where as in Hearthstone, most of the 1 cost cards aren't viable because they only have 1 health. The battles feel like they're on a larger scale.
Hearthstone's presentation and execution in practice just blows the competition in the digital space away. There are plenty of competent games that might be better overall, but they don't hold a candle to the polish and that goes a long way in a game vs a table top game
I know this topic is a little old but I've been playing Infinity Wars for 2 weeks now and I have to say it's really good. I've been playing HS since the beta and I like it a lot too. UI is just great, nice screen designs, user friendly (easy to use), colors, animations, sounds, music.. resuming, it has all the quality one expects from any Blizzard game.
Regarding IW, I have to agree with the general comments that the UI is not so good, in fact is rather terrible. By UI I'm reffering to Menus, Options, screens in general and play boards need a loooot of rework. All the screens lack that nice smoothness and beauty I talked about HS. Finally, all the ingame information you want to track is sometimes difficult to find or understand if you are new to the game.
Besides all of that, at the end of the day. I have to say I like IW more. Why? Because I find deck building more challenging. The way you can merge at least 3 factions in a deck gives you a lot of options for combos and really cool strategies. The game play itself offers more complexity which is good (to me at least). The board has 4 zones where you can build your strategy making matches more intresting. Cards have a ton of abilities that allow a big diversity in the decks you find when playing the ladder. HS, I allways have the feeling that is somehow too linear. There is aggro and there is control, and there are those "must have cards" that you find in every deck.. like "Arcane Gollum" or "Argent Squire". If you play against aggro.. be sure you'll find a "Leroy".
Anyways.. this is how I feel about both games, I like them both but I like IW more because of the complexity.
I've done a few minutes of searching and can't find any info about the game. There's no website with the list of cards. There seems to be a lot less transparency and more "sign up for this game now!"
I do like how it's available even for Android. Seems like Hearthstone is taking forever for Android (even for iPhone)
I feel like, despite how late I am to reply to this thread, that I should say my opinion of the game. I played it for a week, but there are a couple things that pushed me away from it.
The experience overall seems to have a P2W element with a much heavier influence that say, Hearthstone, I'm sure, like Hearthstone, there are budget and F2P decks that can reach the highest of ranks, but I had trouble finding those decks, and if I possibly could, finding out how to properly play them. Which leads to my second point.
The lack of information. Let's face it, this game is nowhere near popular, at least compared on the larger scale of gaming. Which then leads to a lack of information, and helpful guides to help beginners. This helps heighten the learning curve, and leads to improper introductions.
The interface design. It lacks an obvious theme. Hearthstone has a more comfortable theme. Light acoustic music, warm colors, a narrator giving the overall theme of relaxation, it's overall very pleasant. Infinity Wars was, from my experienced, was simply war in space. I'm sure it goes into more detail than that, but my memory is waning here, and I can't be bothered to download it due to bandwidth concerns. Anyways, it's a theme, but it's not portrayed as well as it could be. This could possibly be fixed with a more graphic menu, or a full introduction to the story and the individual factions, or even just a way to immerse yourself in the world before playing. With Hearthstone, most people have previously played World Of Warcraft, so the characters are recognizable. Beyond that however, there isn't a story. This works, and Infinity Wars has yet to find something that works for them and gives them the player base they need to have a great community.
I'm not saying the game is bad, far from it. The idea is executed well, there are features that separate it from physical card games, and overall it has the detail to become a game with a much greater following. They just need to tweak the game overall, and hope a more helpful community develops from that, and possibly some ad will help too. It has potential, it just hasn't fully realized it.
Just in case anyone was curious for my opinion about other aspects. The music is well designed, albeit a bit repetitive at time. (I assume the average player will either drone it out or play something else)The Graphics are well detailed, and having every card has an animation is much cooler that it seems. The replay value is there, if you can get into the game enough to justify the replay. The writing is about as good as you would expect from a digital card game, and the presentation is interesting, but needs work. I can see where others enjoy it, I just personally will not be picking up the game again until something massive changes that can justify giving it another shot.
Saw the thread name & decided to read it. I too have sampled the various games available through Steam, and Infinity Wars was one of them. I didn't stay with it even long enough to figure out the basics.
I found it visually very "busy", which adds to the confusion inherent with taking up a new game. I simply didn't like it.

Both games are equally good. They just pander to a different audience. HS is more for people who are new to TCG's and HS is sort of a watered down version of Magic the Gathering. Which was one of the first if not the first card games of its kind.
IW on the other hand is more for the people who have at least some moderate experience with TCG games and want more of a challenge. For those people the more complex the card game the better.
