There has only been one good MTG video game and it was made 15 years (ish) ago. Since then, all MTG video games have had confusing and limited UI, terrible design, and very limited interaction with opponents. It's MTG without any kind of soul and is in every way worse than MTG in person. Hearthstone on the other hand, at least takes the video game aspect and uses it to the games advantage with tons of interaction, an amazing UI as well as unique effects that couldn't realistically happen in a card game.
I've been playing Magic since 2009 when Duels of the Planeswalkers was released on the XBOX 360. I've bought (and played extensively) every version since then; however, I am not ready to buy an XBOX One just to play the most recent version...Origins.
So, I was happy to see that it would be available on Steam. However, I am one of the unfortunate people who seems to get "Unknown/Fatal Error" every time I try to start it. I've tried multiple "fixes" after doing research online, but nothing has worked. I would like to try the game since I've been playing Magic so long, but it seems like too much trouble just to get the game to work.
I recently sold my MtGO collection after 6 years. At this point, I think I'm probably going to be playing more and more HearthStone and less and less Magic -- for better or worse : /
Dude, what you´re even talking about. Hearthstone is perfectly designed as a videogame.
On the contrary, HS is a game with one of the worst game design I have ever seen. It rides the WoW/Blizzard train to be popular, if it were not for the Blizzard trademark and WoW universe it would be a bad niche game, with very low playerbase, that would probably die within a year. This game does everything wrong, from the experienced gamer point of view.
But unfortunately its perfectly crafted to suit the needs of blind and unaware masses that will buy everything what is nicely warped up and properly advertised. If there were to be a decent digital card game (preferably playable on mobiles) I would ditch this crap to play it in a heartbeat. But there is not so I'm stuck doing dailys and hitting rank 20 for a card back every month hoping it gets better.

Yep... And it was more like 20 for OG MtG and Spells of the Ancients. I still boot that sucker up from time to time.

It plays bad, but even worse it looks like shit. You can't even properly read the cards or appreciate what I'm sure is some great art.
down the rabbit hole.

Doesn't MTGO still exist? Why wouldn't you just play that? Or does this replace that?
It's like a shitty HEX.

I like it a lot and play it since it came for iOS phones. As there doesnt seem to be cross device support, I ll stick with the mobile version.
still somewhat buggy but fun!
