Even tho i really loved HS for a long time, it got very stale for me the last 1-2 years. The whole terrible in-game economy situation combined with the fact that i had to start a new account was the finishing move.
The reason why i sticked to the game for all the years was, that i assumed that it is just the best of the field gameplay-wise and cause i was a Blizz fanboy for the last decade or so. But boy, was i wrong...
About 2 weeks ago i reluctantly installed LoR, cause i was frustrated with HS. I was already biased towards LoR being way worse, cause i just didn't like what i saw from LoL.
So, i got into LoR with a really bias towards wanting to dislike it. I was so darn surprised that it blows HS out of the water in pretty much every aspect. And that EASILY..
In LoR there is almost no powercreep or pack filler cards. Almost every single card has its eligibility and can be implemented into some kind of strategy. There is no narrow meta game. Due to the fact that so many different decks are viable its super fresh. There are OTK decks, heavy control decks, midrange, aggro, attrition, mill, bomb warrior (haha) exactly like in HS. LoR is easier to balance, cause it is interactive: To every action of the opponent, you are allowed a reaction and vice versa. There is almost no RNG fiesta in LoR. It has secondary game modes with actual rewards! It has something like HS arena, which gives the most rewards and also another mode where you can build a highlander deck from own collection. It looks a lot nicer than HS, it's not weeby at all (which was one of my concerns beforehand). There is so much more calculation needed to play LoR optimally = high skillcap, which i love. HS on the other hand i can play to Legend while tabbing out to watch Youtube or similar. LoR is a PARADISE for deckbuilders! So many viable combos that one can explore and memes actually work. It is basically completely for free. The game gives tons of rewards, you dont have to buy anything. From my calculations i think i will have a full collection in the next month or so. The time needed to invest to reach the reward milestones is very little compared to HS. LoR resets the main reward once a week and i'm maxed out in terms of rewards already after 3 days of yes, intense, but compared to the time i spent in HS, moderate amount time.
There is really only one area, where HS has an edge in my oppinion: The social system. In LoR so far you couldn't add opponents, but they will implement it within the next weeks i heard. Also i didn't find active communities for it like this here on hearthpwn so far. But that is really the only drawback for me. On anything else i'm not missing HS at all.
So, my offer here is, if i sparked your interest i can answer your questions from the perspective of someone who is talented for card games but is still at the beginning/intermediate phase of learning LoR.
My request is, if anyone knows community sites like hearthpwn, but for LoR. Also, if you already play LoR, slide me your Riot tag and i will gladly add you.
Oh, right. My Riot tag under which you can add me in-game is
a3b2c1 #5685 I play on Europe. Cheers.
If you're curious you can add me and i can explain you the basics and help you with your questions as good as i can (Admittedly there is quite a bit of stuff to learn in the beginning, before you can play a real game, which is a deterrence for many people, but if you like challenges and like learning new things, you will be rewarded greatly. As i said in terms of gameplay it blows HS out of the water easily, no competition at all)
Heyo. I got the same problem. I‘ve started lor 1 month ago and i‘m loving it. i dont have a lor-pwn right now, but if i found one, i will let you know.
U're very right! I was one of those players that didn't liked LOR at first glance, but after a few hours playing...oh boy! Day 2 a complete deck, Week 1 3 complete decks - after a few months since release I'm now with almost full collection and the game knows that enough to keep the game fresh and launching several metas at once each expansion. So yes. I'm still playng HS but only BG AFK or using bot anyway to farm exp - Maybe, one day HS will become better we never know, so I keep gathering stuff there thinking about the future. HS now has like 3 fun decks and the others are just bullshit to fill the empty space.
LOR is way better and I guess after Edwin HOF and the new bullshit they want to implement in HS in April the game will find his end for real, only keeping the same client$$$ that always are playing sad and alone a game that has no direction whatsoever but to fill the company pockets. Edit: Maybe I'm just gathering stuff in HS cause I can't believe the game has become so shitty and I don't want to lost what i achieved all this time. it's a form of addiction I don't want to anyone.
Guess they are trying to transform HS in children's game target from now on, just watch the expansion trailers and the way they try to convince the playerbase to buy stuff and get into the game - it's like a bad done Disney propaganda with infantile animation and musical stupidness. The children and baby-men will keep on the playerbase 4ever untill they close the server on the next 2 or 3 years. If u want to play a real card game that doesn't have $$$$$$$$$ competition like Magic Shithering or HS - GO to LOR - Better animation, mechanics, fun feel and so on. Never tried gwent but really looks so raw and bad designed I don't even want to try it out. Edit: Maybe I'm gathering stuff due my addiction to this game, cause i Achieved so many stuff and cards that is hard to let it go. This is a form of addiction I don't want to anyone.
I'm not invalidating your opinion on this, if you've found something that you personally prefer then good for you but I would point out that comparing something you've played for years with sonething brand new, where you're in the 'honeymoon' period isn't a fair comparison.
It's why affairs are so common. After years and years of the same, something new, shiny and exciting will feel great.
When you're the new kid it's easier to be fresh and interesting. No baggage of a backlog cards and years of having to freshen things up, come up with new designs etc that then clash or development going stale plus you have the benefit of being late to the party and being able to have a look at what everyone else is doing before you jump in.
Bit weird that you're on a website for a different game though, I'm sure there are discord servers or reddit subs for LoR at the very least. Is it important to you that you convince other people to leave hearthstone or?
I think it's interesting that the one thing people seem to prefer with LoR is that they give away more stuff. Otherwise, it's basically the same game with a few slightly different mechanics/rules. It didn't take me long to port my HS strategies for aggro, combo, and control over to LoR. The ideas are very similar. So, yeah, I liked LoR just fine...just like I like HS. But why start from scratch in a new, similar card game when I already have a large collection in this one?
@P4dge: No, not at all important to me to convince people to leave HS. I write here, cause this site was the only platform i wrote on in the past when it came to gaming. I learned to like the community here and the majority of my HS friends list was from hearthpwn. I made this post to maybe find people who also read the signs Activision is giving us and look for an alternative (that is as good or even better than what HS used to be like). Also i posted in the section for other games, so should be fair game.
I don't agree with your point about new game vs old game. I dont think there is an excuse for making a lackluster game or let a game become worse and worse. Doesn't matter, if it was good in the past. The only thing that counts is the here and now. And HS right now is a shadow of its old past. Basically all newly introduced features over the years were nails in the coffin. LoR reminded me, how good complexity can be in a game and how easily a well-built game can be balanced. But this is only possible in a game that is f2p. If a company gets all its money from the pack purchase, then it is obvious that this very company will balance the game and introduce new content solely around pack purchase. Of course they will give you cool explanations of why and how, but at the end of the day they plan every single one of their steps towards one objective: getting as much of your money as possible. In LoR this is not doable. Not because Riot are angels. No, but because their approach to how to get your money is different. Their approach is that they want to bind as many people as possible to their game, build a loyal followership. Then get their money via cosmetics. So their approach is just more future oriented and sustainable, while Activision wants your money now (or you simply wont be able to play the game) while condoning to anger their audience. So, Riot's approach is a lot wiser, while Activision's is the one of a robber baron. Cheers
I've started playing LoR a bit, after I've heard folks talk about it.
I enjoy it, although usually see the same decks over and over. It's got some cool mechanics and art. I do like the full splash artwork for the cards. I do also really enjoy Hearthstone still, and I enjoy how hearthstone plays, as it's got a different playstyle than LoR. Right now I bounce back and forth between the two, but I find it hard to say which is better to me.
I find LoR to be a much more realistic aesthetic, where I really enjoy the light heartedness of Hearthstone, and I like the randomness aspect to it.
I also can't seem to find as much of a community (Like Heathpwn is) For LoR, which is something I like to have.
I've been playing LoR since it released. I find the economy to be VERY generous. I bought the intro. bundle for $5 USD and that's the only money I spent. I don't play the game much, relatively speaking, but have quite a few of the cards just from completing quests and getting the weekly vault every Thursday.
As mentioned, the game has some interesting mechanics, but I don't find it to be as fun as HS or MtG.
I think it's interesting that the one thing people seem to prefer with LoR is that they give away more stuff. Otherwise, it's basically the same game with a few slightly different mechanics/rules. I notice the same thing. It's a little more nuanced here on hearthpwn where people have genuine gripes with the meta, but read the comments sections of any general gaming website and it's pretty clear that people just want free stuff. And the fact that other CCGs offer it doesn't speak to their benevolence; it's just the realization that they have to offer something to attract players because they're not providing a superior product.

Yeah, that's how i thought of HS for over a decade. That it's by far the superior product. Then, the first time i check a concurring product, i realized that i was wrong (or at least, that HS WAS the very best indeed, but has fallen off now).
Reality is that game which was here first will always be better ,DotA will always be better then LoL , and LoL will always be much better than Heroes of the storm , same it is with the cards games where we have Poker >Mtg>HS>LoR thats all . u cant find America when someone did it long ago. it is the same like when u decide to create a best FPS game ever . all your ideas will come from FPS games u already played. same it is here. HS have its own magic only because it is easy to understand and play. And as we all know blizzard dominates in animations. look at World of warcraft. whole game is made like for kids , colors , characters. still killing other games like lineage where u would say is much better graphics.
u know what , if i look on LoR , it does not run smooth. animations of attacks and other moves on board are so hard . in HS it is like knife is going trough pile of butter. HS is better imo. but as i said , it is just my opinion. downvote me if you feel that need.

Hearthstone has only existed for seven years buddy. Little hard to like something for over a decade when it wont reach a decade for another 3 years.
That aside, in LoR, the top 5 cards are all used in at least 70% of decks, and there are over 130 cards that see 2% play or less. That's over 20%.
And if you think all decks are viable you arent playing at a very high rank. Most of Runeterra's meta is aggro bullshit.
No other card game is going to help me get my nostalgia fix for Warcraft while simultaneously giving me a fun and easy to play card game. It's not about card balance, the economy, the community or the company's business practices.
If you play CCGs because you just like card games and nothing else specifically, then there are other products on the market you can try.
If u are f2p LoR beats the competition without a question. Magic will always be magic. But HS for me has something different. I played LoR for sometime but HS always brings me back

2. Magic: Arena
3. LoR
Just my 2 cents.

But, seriously. Cards don't seems cards. They are just squares with text.
Also, there's no packs to open... what a miss for their pockets.
