Who here is really looking forward to Artifact when it's released later in the year? It will have very large tournament prize pools ($1 million+), and I think a lot of the serious card players will play the game when it comes out. Well, unless Artifact ends up being a bad game, but that's not going to happen I think (I could be wrong tho).
Also, I think there will be a good amount of the HS streamers who will leave, and switch over to Artifact later in the year. I hope the game rewards skill, and punishes your misplays. I hope that Artifact really gives Blizzard a run for it's money, so they can improve Hearthstone, and stop being so lazy with their game.
I'm really looking forward to Artifact, and I wonder who else might be giving the game a try in the near future.
yeah i think pro-players will migrate on Artefact only for the money. Valve spends so much money on marketing and tournaments... DOTO started just like this 1 mil. $ The international, and all players migrated from starcraft diablo dota1, even cs

Money will be a driving force for a lot of the streamers to leave HS for Artifact. I agree with you 100% there, and it will be interesting to see what happens in the future.
no matter the cardgame, cancerous metanetdeckers that play top s-tier meta decks in casual modes will always exist, that's why i'm not excited about newer releases, if anything i'm a lot more excited about reynad's bazaar if he's able to got hrough with it because of the deckbuilding aspect that won't allow people to metanetdeck stuff in casual.
ArgentumEmperio were you a free player on Dota2? I ask because my impression was that if you wan't to escape the company of abusive 13 year olds in Dota2, then you have to spend some money and the points you get from that float you above their ilk rather quickly. So it's really their business model to moderate-via-your-credit-card. I could be wrong, but that was my remote analysis. Moderation is an unsolved problem in general of course - which doesn't mean we shouldn't keep trying, of course.
PS - Blizzard isn't giving any massive percentage of what cards cost to prize money either. I haven't found the ads for compediums especially misleading, I don't think I ever encountered "every cent of this fee goes to" or "all proceeds go to" or "all monies go to." They say most of the prize money comes from sales, and it does. Could they be more up front? Very possibly but that's business and programmers do cost money.
I have a hunch that Artifact will be the cat's pajama's. If it's pay one time, then most HS players who have spent money on HS will cheerfully spend a fraction of that much on the whole game just to fool with it. Steam hasn't released anything of their own in a long while, if it wasn't very good, I doubt the game would be seeing the light of day. Just my hunch. Plus I love watching Dota2, whereas I played WoW for a half-hour once and don't remember anything about it.
It's unlikely it will kill Hearthstone since Hearthstone is so well established. I think it will get a lot more support than any other TCG that has come out as an alternative to Hearthstone in recent years, but only due to the eSports nature of the game. Without proper balancing, competitive fairness, and funds, the game could easily die off after its inaugural million dollar tournament. If it avoids those problems, it will take a small chunk from Hearthstone, but it's doubtful that Hearthstone would get surpassed in users.
Regarding popularity, it will need to be as or more entertaining to watch on stream to oppose HS. Pro players are well and good, but streamers generate interest and investment. If artifact is fun to spectate and play, it will stand a better chance. If it's only fun to play, but not to watch, it won't.
The fact of the matter is a lot of people are mobile. Why don't I play Gwent?
I don't own a PC. All my work, music, gaming, etc is done from my device. I sincerely doubt this new game, Artifact will really phase Hearthstone because it is being released on PC first.
The TCG that is actually available to ALL gamers, (PC/Android/iphone) will most likely be the one that takes the cake. Furthermore, as smartphones become more advanced, a lot of PC usage will become obsolete.
I mean, I can type up anything I want, and send it to my printer at home. From my phone. However, developers cannot make a game mobile friendly? Even this forum doesn't have any kind of plug in for forum readers, it doesn't have an ap - clearly, I'm "less" of a gamer because spending 47 hours in front of a computer monitor is NOT my idea of fun.
If you want my money, be mobile friendly from the beginning so I can get in on the action straight from the start.
As for community moderation, the attraction to HS is the lack of an open chat. As for the Blizzard Forum...eff that place.
People that are bitching about Steam not being mobile friendly fail to realize that they have a mobile app available on tablets and phones, and you can authenticate your account on your phone. The amount of ignorance on display is staggering.
And people who are claiming that Valve does not trust their community fail to realize they ENCOURAGE their community to contribute to their games (Steam Workshop) and, oh, by the way, DOTA is their FUCKING FLAGSHIP GAME with the International having 95% of their prize pool contributed by their community. So yeah, they want to make a good first impression.
With the exit of Brode and Chu, Hearthstone is continuing its inevitable ride into the sunset. Old games fade and Witchwood hasn't really made a case as to why it will continue. It is basically being propped up by idiot-friendly decks based on a few unbalanced cards. They are really trying to scrape the bottom of the barrel in player base at this point, basically bust-out phase where they burn up what little reputation the game has remaining.

You can't actually play Artifact on mobile though, so I'm probably out. I am glad its a thing though, Hearthstone will have to up its game which can only be better for the playerbase.

But... your two most popular decks are Jade Druid and Face Hunter?

Hearthstone is available on mobile devices....and artifact not, right? I am not if this could be an advantage for HS.
Honestly people said the same sort of thing about gwent and look how that's turned out so far. lol
Rumors are carried by haters, spread by fools, and accepted by idiots.
and developer of the game is the same guy that did Magic: the gathering
icefrog-> dota
richard garfield -> artifact
HALF LIFE 3 INCOMING !!!
Artifact=richard garfield=boring

I hope it will be a good game since hs is in dire need of real competition.
