I'd personally either make an RPG, MOBA, or CCG. For the RPG, it's simple - I love story writing, which that would allow me to do. For the Moba, it'd basically be my own way to create unique and fun classes to play with and experiment with - think WoW crossed with Dota. For the CCG, it'd essentially be a cross between Hearthstone and MTG, having some of the simpler aspects of Hearthstone and more complex aspects of MTG blended together well.
People, why don't you download some program/engine and start creating your own content instead of dreaming, like Unity or Game Maker Studio 2? The first one is completely free but it's hard to master for several reasons, but the second one is very friendly to those who know shit about programming and people can make their own games with it till a certain point without spending any money. I'm developing a videogame about vampires in the Renaissance era (it's a multiplayer RPG with several strategy elements for Android and iOS) with Game Maker Studio 2 since January and things are going very well. I don't know when I will finish it, but for now I'm not in a hurry.
Actually I am creating my own game. It's a mix of CCG and strategic game set in a sci-fi universe. It's still in early stages of dev but I've got a few people involved.
I've always liked the games that have butterfly effects, such as Until Dawn and the new Detroit: Become Human, so I would probably want to make something like those, unfortunately I'm not a creative enough person to write a story, or even come up with a concept, but I really would like to get into game design someday.
I would steal an idea out from under Yahtzee Crowshaw (from ZeroPunctuation fame), and make a Roguelike-esque sandbox game where you play a comic book villain. You go around doing dastardly crimes to power your doomsday weapon or whatever other absurd plan you have, trying to avoid losing to The Good Guys while you gather what you need. Eventually they'd figure out what you're doing and confront you, determine a weakness in your plan and beat you up. You'd escape and start the whole process over again, until you get everything right and actually win.
Barring that I have some original ideas of my own, but I was 100% on board with his proposal when I first heard about it in his Saints Row 2 episode.

Behold, foolish interlopers! I am commanding this mortal to spread the will of the Scourge throughout the interwebs, encouraging you to seek out me, Archlich Kel'Thuzad! Now coming to you as the tenth class of Hearthstone!
I am a finalist in this Class Creation Competition, so if you could give it a look I would be greatly appreciative <3
Winx club card based in Panz's game mechanics and adding some mechanics of my own i like or wish there were in that game, in fact; i already "sort of" did it and play it with my friends from time to time.

Came to say this. Me and my childhood friend have been working on games for a few years. Even if they never make any money, it's a lot more fun and rewarding than just watching streams

Tbqh I've been considering it, I have the ability to create both art assets and I have the ability to come up with ideas - I just have trouble pushing myself. I've spent years coming up with concepts for stories, mechanics, and games as a whole - just without the patience or hardiness to get myself to do it.
Currently writing a game myself right now. It's on the backburner. I have enough written that I can work on it later and not worry about feeling lost. I have hopes of publishing it myself, but I'd love to bring it to Platinum Games, considering how successful they were with weaving different genres of games into Nier: Automata.
Concerning piggybacking off of already established games, the question posed concerned making your own game, meaning established games like Pokemon and Star Wars are off the table.
....What would it be?

A Star Wars MMO. More along the lines of SWG pre NGE but better than that game was.

Working on a kickstarter project atm.

"The last of us" game in an open world
