I played Hearthstone on and off since the game release. I also did play a lot of MTG before, and played many other card games meanwhile.
Recently I got extremely bored of the horrible hearthstone meta and the inaction of the devs. I also consider that they don't have proper work schedules to get things done in time and that they are afraid to take risks and shake things up/admit their mistakes and move on from there.
I tried Shadowverse after recommadations a few days ago. And now I'm completly addict.
What did this ? Is it the hentai loli girls on almost all the card art ? Probably it contributed a little bit XD
No but on a more serious note Shadowverse is so great ! It feels like how Hearthstone should have been (well without the lolis because we can't reasonably expect this from Blizzard). The take on the gameplay is very refreshing. There are a lot of strong control and combo tools. The evolution mechanic allows great comebacks in the mid game. High cost cards are actually playable and some legendaries have insane effects like Hearthstone's ones can't even compare except a few like Reno.
I would warmly suggest anybody pissed by the direction Hearthstone has taken to try Shadowverse. It's also very generous and gives you a ton of free stuff.
Now I just can't play Hearthstone folks. I open it, and it feels like a worse Shadowverse. It's not only the cancer pirate warriors. It's the game mechanics. When I win in Shadowverse (I'm playing combo/control) I know its because I deserved it. The randomness is minimal, and it's far from curvestone. You can do mind games like playing little and making people burn their evolutions then rekt them and come back with your own to make better trades. This kind of things. Can you even imagine leaving 5-7 mana open in Hearthstone while your hand is at 7-8 cards ?
On thing that I personally like behind the gameplay and the free stuff is the art. Now here me on. It might seem creepy to say that but it's so refreshing/not serious XD They managed to make horrible named demons and pagan gods actually fun to play with their loli art. It's hilarious actually. it's so... offbeat humour lol. This universe has like 80% waifus in it. I think if people would see you play this they might think it's an erotic game haha.
Oh btw this is the no 1 card game in Japan now, above Yugiyoh, Pokemon and Hearthstone. And they release a new expansion every 3 months and aren't afraid to take risks at all. Right now they are revealing the new cards for the next xpac and omg there are some crazy things. I don't think this game will ever get stale with the fast rythm of new cards and the complexity of the cards. There are very few vanilla minions and the legendaries have very wild effects usually.
Short : Try Shadowverse it's great. It's close enough to Hearthstone to instantly feel home and it's different enough to fix all the HS issues. You get a ton of free stuff, so much that you will have a bad opinion on Blizzard afterwards.
I play some arena in SV every now and then, but the biggest draw backs for me are the eclectic and horrible art direction (sorry weebs), and the attrocious UI. Different strokes for different folks I guess, but I much rather spend my time with HS, Faeria or ESL.
Same for me I tried out Shadowverse and hated the graphics and UI. The cards seemed very bland, I didn't think the heroes were that interesting
I find UI great except the lack of easy friendlist (it's a problem originating in the mobile devices restrictions I think since it was ported into pc later).
Heroes are cool. Most of them are pretty much mad but w/e. I like the Arisa and Erika the most anyway and they are completly sane.
Ok it's not warcraft level storyline (not even close) for sure but how many people that play hearthstone now do you think actually played warcraft III and wow and read the comics/books ? Not many imo. I'm sure many people don't even know why Jaina has partly white hair, a fierce look and why she is holding this blue thing. Is it her daily makeup ? Nope lol
So yeah ofc warcraft has better storyline because it's so rich and complex but almost nobody knows the fine details on hearthstone imo, most people started around The Great Tournament /League of Explorers time and didn't play prior warcraft games or only a little. Like even playing casual wow for years you may not know shit about the storyline if you only play superficially/farm quests fast and pvp.
And the gameplay on shadowverse is much much better. No randomness, much more skill involved decisions. Midgame matters the most and you can come back even after playing nothing for the first 3 turns. It's rising fast and from my experience asian competitive gaming is much better then western one anyway and this game originating from asia is a big plus. They don't have the slothness and the will to dumb things down like westerners do. Every western game gets dumb down these days. i played a ton of LoL and it also got more and more dumbed down to cater to casual western kids.
ikr, when i see Arisa running Ptp or RHinoceroach combo decks and the Mage character running DImension shift decks and both of them being fun, viable and accepted and then i see blizzard removing Conceal and Ice Lance and killing Blade Flurry while releasing broken 1 drops almost every expansion i feel like i grinded the wrong game but well i already grinded it and dont want to feel all that time wasted.
Seriously, if you want a more control-oriented hearthstone, play the Elder Scrolls. It's essentially hearthstone but with an inbuilt mechanism to punish racing, and the ability to protect any minion you play for a turn.
Yea shadowverse really feels great to me too, its the only card game aside from hearthstone i really enjoy.
It has soo great and fun mechanics i wish some of them would be in Hearthstone honestly (one of my favourite interactions is Sahaquiel into Lucifer) And Deathwing (bahamut) is actually really good in that game.
I made an account this week after seeing some stuff about it. Pretty cool. It felt good, there are lots of combo potential like you said. The best part is rewards. I played 3 story missions which are pretty much tutorials…once you navigate through the horrible interface you can select reward tickets. They pretty much gave out 40 free packs from 3 expansions. It was insane.
They have different rarities and animated cards too. Each minion has an evolution which powers it up during gameplay.
Not only are they very generous with their packs, but holy shit…the rare/epic drops are insane. Out of the 30-40 free packs I opened I got a really healthy amount of legendary named cards. A couple packs I got had 2 in them.
We all know the abysmal drop rate in HS…
PROS: New atmosphere, new concepts and playing styles, combos, lots of deck possibilities, lots of free packs etc, drop rate very high.
CONS: Not a fan of the jpop style. Classic Japanese game text overload and janky interface…this will make building custom decks a hassle.
Conclusion: Shit is dope, check it out and prepare to read an ass ton of small text.
Another thread trying to prove other card games are designed better. But they are not. And almost no1 plays them comparing to HS...
And on the topic: i dont like stupid Weebs design and overall shadowverse UI is not user friendly nor catchy.
The reason people play Blizzard games over other games isn't because they're better, it's because of the classic Blizzard polish, marketing and the loyal (and rabid) fanbase they've amassed over the years. I'm not saying blizzard games are bad, it's just that they're not popular because they're better games.
i only started playing about two months ago, and I already have a full nepthys deck and a full daria deck, free to play. In hearthstone terms, that's like control warrior and Reno mage in terms of expensiveness. FREE TO PLAY, and the game is better lmao. Pray for hearthstone.
all the cards look the same wich slows the game down a lot and makes the fast snappy animations look dumb, also the tier one deck before the last expac was aggro so please don't try and say this game is all control, also they printed a legendary that reads: if this attacks a hero, kill them and they have ways to give your cards storm that I think are neutral.

also the porn is a bit to much for me.
An aggro deck being T1 is absolutely fine as long as other archetypes are represented there too (but it was a Tempo not an aggro deck if we are talking about Daria)
But its really just wrong to say all cards look the same, because thats not even close to be the case.

Tes is my main ccg atm and i love it!However the prophecy mechanic while is meh in consturcted is pure cancer in the arena.I liked it at first but i hate it with passion now. It's pure rng and decides games,a smorc asshole can rush you down and you can get 0 prophecies while they can 3 or 4 in a row when you manage a comeback. It's one of the worst design choices in an otherwise great game.
Tried to move to SV, but honestly, I'll probably won't last as much there as I did on "brodestone".
Aggro is also prevalent there too. They launched an expansion promising meta slow down, but it seems to promote aggro even more.
A card like Heavenly Aegis: 9 mana 8/8 a legendary for the Haven class that CAN'T BE DESTROYED, by any means. You, for example, play Bahamut the SV's Deathwing big guy that clears all board, Aegis will still be there, any hard removal, you can cast just to waste mana and a card, Aegis will still be there. People even meme: "player uninstalled game, formatted disc and incinerated the hard drive: Aegis was still there". The only counters are stat debuff cards (effects similar to Aldor Peacekeeper) Guess what... Only Haven has one of those currently... Solution? Go SMOrc!
Deepwood Anomaly... Another bad idea just not troublesome because it's the legendary of the SV's current hunter: the Forest class. But the card is literally poisonous to the face: 8 mana 8/8 if it goes face: GG. Full hp? Doesn't matter: it hit the place, you lose. Come on...
And then there's the top meme deck: It's like in HS Dragon Priest meets Ramp Druid at a higher crafting cost than Control "Wallet" Warrior. Basically you play strong dragons, get ramp and get tons of healing... Dragoncraft: the broken of the broken.
The only great things I found about SV is it has less RNG craziness: you still have draws deciding matches, some random hitters, but nothing close to "pavelling book effects"; and generosity: during 1st week the amount of free packs, arena tickets and in-game currency offered was brutal, better. They reward you good for laddering too, it's a milestone system, you reach X ranked points you get Y reward, X+100 you get Z reward: IN THE MOMENT, and only the points you win count. You're 100 ranked points short to next reward, you dive in a losing streak, losing many ranked points on ladder, you finally win, get 100+ ranked points: congratulations, the reward is yours. Those rewards reset monthly, rank doesn't, only Master (Legend) points do reset. You reached B, you'll be B, Master will still be Master. You can play casually on ladder and easily get a good amount of gold+vials (dust), a few card packs, a couple of arena tickets, some aesthetics: emblems(avatars), flair banners and card backs (yes, plural), not only a card back+ little dust+a couple of golden cards like in HS: all that without putting too many daily hours. If you go "full time", you get way more.
Honestly I feel it's following the HS direction: right thing taking the wrong track.

I too, for the same reasons, started Shadowverse.
