Direwolfs other game is better than Elder Scrolls Legends and every other go face or trade game
it has real CCG mechanics like Magic the Gathering like a blocking system and spells that you can cast on your opponents turn. Turn based CCGs are inferior strategy and balance wise.
Oh ya. Direwolfs other CCG is Eternal. I actually found it by playing ESL and finding out who Direwolf was.
I guess art is a subjective thing though, so your mileage may vary considerably.
This is much like my view on the game too. Played as soon as I could during the open beta of ESL. Got into the gameplay and thought it was a pretty good game overall. Even love the art style and lore.
However, there's something about the animations and UI that just puts me off from playing the game more. Like it's better than Magic but still seems very stiff in a similar way to Magic. There's something about HS art style, sound direction (or whatever you call that part of the game) and animations combined that make it more engaging, even though ESL is perfectly fine in terms of its mechanics.
I have a compulsion to keep playing HS. Not so much ESL.

So after about a month playing TESL, and years of playing Hearthstone.....I feel a thread like this is mandatory. This game is incredible for how early it's been out for a ccg, and I'll explain why I think so, and why in relation to Hearthstone this is a far better game.
I dont even mind the butthurt comments who disagree with me I know they're coming as this is a pro-hearthstone group. I still like hearthstone, it just doesn't compare to this game and I dont see myself playing hearthstone anymore because of it.
You actually get rewarded for your play in this game. Every 3 wins you'll get some rewards. Even in Practice mode playing AI you can farm soul gems, which is like dust in HS.. You'll get 15 for every win. IMO so far from what I've experienced in this game you really don't need to spend any money at all.... everything is grindable in a relatively fair amount of time. Arena rewards are far better than HS imo. I remember my first solo arena in this game went 9-1 and got a legendary as a reward amongst other things. Havent spent a dime in this game and have top tier decks already with most top tier cards in the game all thru grinding arena... Another month I should have every card in the game, all f2p. Also crafting legendaries much cheaper in this game, cost 1200 as opposed to HS's 1600. This game is just cheaper and much more rewarding than HS
More classes to play and balanced. With 5 archetypes in the game, you can have up to 15 class deck combinations. There is no one deck in the game right now that just steam rolls everything else, and it will never be like that. The company will always listen to their fans and give that into consideration before their own interests, and it shows. Opposite of Blizzard imo. Couple weeks ago they nerfed a card and gave the community a detailed explanation on why they thought it was necessary to do so. They are very interactive with customer base.
More viable decks to play on ladder. You aren't going to be running into the same decks over and over, theres so many different decks that can be played ppl are always inventing new things you can do as this game is still in open beta. Last look at Metasnapshot there was like 4 top tier decks, like 10 tier 2 decks, etc and while watching streams no one was using them haha. People are just creating awesome decks right now and its an exciting time
Ladder structure is much better. If you're at legend after the month is over you only start again at rank 5 for the next month, so way less of a grind. When you get to a rank in ladder, you dont lose ranks... can only go up. Until you get to legend of course then it works much like HS.
Cleaner, more mature card graphics. This might not matter to a lot of people, and some may disagree that this is relevant at all, but presentation matters a little bit to me as I'll be staring at that screen for hours a day. IMO the graphics on cards and interface just look more cleaner.... and not as cartoony. Effects sounds are better too IMO.
Higher skill cap. With the added mechanic of a secondary "shadow" lane as well as the rune system, whether to hit face, pass on early/late turns, turn set up, lethal setup etc everything is relevant from turn 1. Hearthstone planning and ingame strategy is child's play compared to the amount of things you need to consider in TESL. Was just playing a legend tier game and I passed a couple times turn 12 playing out his last proc goldband holding mantikoras lol and still trying to figure out what he was playing against me while he just didnt wanna hit me face to give me more cards obviously. You guys try passing end game turns in hearthstone and see what happens. See in this game, you are rewarded for clever play like your playing cards in real life, not just turn go turn go. And you're never really 100% out of the game if opponent has lethal on their turn as you can catch some prophecy cards to play while on his turn to stop them. You're never really out until you really are, fast concedes happen much less often in this game than HS
Tip of the iceberg on why I think the game is just generally better than Hearthstone overall I dont want to keep typing. Of course this is all my opinion, and to each their own. I speak as an ex legend hs player with 2 years in the game. But if you talk shit about the game without even really playing it then your opinion is equivalent to that of shit in a paper bag. And this game just came out.. it's only going to get better. Kripp has already quoted that the game is coming out for devices phones tablets etc like hearthstone did. My honest prediction as since this game has a higher skill cap and better mechanics than ccg hearthstone, it will be the new gold standard of digital card games. Just wait and see. This game is already starting to blow up, and when it comes on devices... damn get ready.
the only disappointing thing about it was that the single player campaign was way to weak and barley spice things up compere it to LOE or naxx and its not even on the same level the funny thing is I found the single player arena to be 1000 times better then the official campaignI played it for the most part its a great game if Bethesda will keep support that arena and add some worthwhile single player expansion I would probably come back to play it over hearthstone
also another gripe the game has some straight up rng cards like the one that can summon a beast for only 6 mama and it can summon a 7 7 which was disappointing considering i was interested in it to not get those rng cards
I tried Shadowverse, while the game is also interresting, seemed solid, some people find ESL art unexciting, as a 37 male i find shadowverse, animation and art too intense for me, and personnally i hate the japanese style, too sexualized ( japanese style, not the game itself)
so i might miss some great game, because of that reason, i don,t know if you guys know fire emblem, love the mechanics but the art and the childish japanese voice of female character, i cant get over it, its kinda sad, iknow :P
Most Hearthstone players here are Rank 20 quality .
well, it's by choice that i play around those rank in hearthstone, i tried to never get passed rank 15, and i also play wild, the reason is this is the sweet spot for me, for the kind of player i want to play against, you see some really original decks or attemps you won't see pass rank 15, pass this you will play agaisnt the same 5 deck over and over again, and you know those player created those deck based on internet decks, i want to play agaisnt player with imagination and see some weird combo one thought of before
and standard is an aberration for me, why would i throw half of my card collection in the trash, because blizzard said so ;)
I would try ESL but they need a mobile app. Getting out the laptop just to play a card game is too inconvenient.
Apparently they're planning for release on mobile in the summer? I've played it on iPad and that was pretty nice, but the interface needs some work to be mobile-friendly. I've mainly ditched Elder Scrolls just because it's not strictly better than HS (each has its pros and cons) so it feels a bit redundant to me while I'm still having a blast with HS.

Articles I suggest every player reads to improve at the game;
The earlier you jump into a game the easier it is to be f2p, though standard rotation helps. Also the smaller and less popular a game is the slower the meta gets solved.
Two issues there Hearthstone has for being more established. If another game reaches its popularity they'll face those issues too.
So many of these points are just unsound. The only reason hearthstone may be more expensive is because it absolutely dominates the market, so they don't need to give a bunch of handouts to try and entice a playerbase. As to why it dominates, there are several reasons. For one, a simple, clean and easy to use interface and graphics makes it so much more appealing than the drab ESL or cringely overdone Shadowverse. As far as deck/archetype variety, so many people don't seem to understand that a higher competitive level means an increasingly narrow meta in any game. Comparing the meta of a game several years old to one just a few months in is just unfair, so don't even bother going there.
Lastly, and this is entirely my own point, Hearthstone doesn't suffer from any overarching gimmicks. That's right, eventually you'll find that mechanics like runes and lanes will ultimately only hurt the game. Why? Because these mechanics end up just being a crutch for balancing rather than an actually interesting tool. In HS, if the balance between archetypes needs adjusting, they just need to release cards of an appropriate power level, there's no added layer to the games balance, it's simple, straight forward and easy to both implement and understand. If we take Shadowverse as an example again, the evolve mechanic doesn't actually add much to the game itself, you still need to play cards for a cost and try to gain the upper hand over the opponent through either tempo or value. Although, SV is a particularly bad example of this, as it's fairly obvious the mechanic was added more for double "sexy" pics rather than any meaningful interaction.
The only other online CCG worth someones time over HS is Faeria, because it genuinely provides a more in-depth strategic approach to card games, where actual thinking takes place. All the other CCG's out there offer hardly anything different to HS, without nearly half the professional polish Hearthstone provides. My advice to anyone, if you can't have fun playing hearthstone then these other games won't prove any less frustrating. So don't come here, blatantly trying to advertise an inferior and lackluster alternative and then make it out as if you're some enlightened one whose seen the mtg knock-off light

I really like Hearthstone's cartoony graphics. If I wanted something serious looking, I'd play Gwent.
We're giving away a huge Legends bundle, would be great for a new player!
