The company will always listen to their fans and give that into consideration before their own interests, and it shows. Opposite of Blizzard imo. Couple weeks ago they nerfed a card and gave the community a detailed explanation on why they thought it was necessary to do so. They are very interactive with customer base.
That is just an assumption you make based on the experiences of a single month. The game is still in Beta phase, which means it is in the tweaking phase where changes are made to improve the overall product for release. There is no evidence, that this behaviour will continue. We speak about Bethesda - a company which simply ignored major bugs in Fallout 3 that just made the game unplayable on the Playstation 3 and just released more unplayable paid content for the platform. After that they licensed the engine for another unplayable game (Fallout New Vegas) without changing anything. What makes you think, they will change that behaviour in Legends?
More viable decks to play on ladder. You aren't going to be running into the same decks over and over, theres so many different decks that can be played ppl are always inventing new things you can do as this game is still in open beta. Last look at Metasnapshot there was like 4 top tier decks, like 10 tier 2 decks, etc and while watching streams no one was using them haha. People are just creating awesome decks right now and its an exciting time
I played an early stage of the Beta and maybe it has changed until now. When I played, I had a varietyof decks in the lower ranks but in the middle ranks it drastically changed and there was only aggro all over the place. Yes, there was a large range of decks, bu no variety of archetypes. In the early Beta of Hearthstone, there were a lot of viable control decks (I am a control player most of the time). I didn't see that in Legends, so I stopped playing after a few months.
This game is just cheaper and much more rewarding than HS
Again, we are talking about Bethesda here. A company that wraps a 9.99$-DLC around every feature-set they like to add to their games. And in the end they also have to earn some money with the product. Otherwise the game will be dead in 6-9 months. I even don't get the whole "Hearthstone is so p2w" nonsense. Everyone gets a free pack every single week and if you play consistently you get enoug gold for another pack every day! That's over 400 packs that Blizzard is giving to you for just playing the game. With 30 card decks, every player is able to build a tier 1 deck easily through dusting needless cards. How much more do you want?
Please don't get me wrong at this point: I'm a great fan of Bethesda games and especially the Elder Scrolls series. But I think you are looking through rose-coloured spectacles right now.
Guys, the correct, absolutely indisputable ranking of card games is:
1. Hearthstone
2. MTG
3. Fearia (if you haven't tried it out, it's a card game where you play your minions on a map/grid. Positioning matters in Faeria, more than in any other card game. F2P is also very fair).
I had a play of ESL and found it fun for a while, but it soon got stale with games feeling like I was just playing out the card draw sequence and the occasional tactic, rather than having to formulate much strategy. The come back mechanism of the runes is clever, but the fact that it is needed shows that there is a fundamental flaw, similar to how HS requires heavy rng comebacks to give the illusion of a game and keep it fun. I have found a surprising alternative to play when I need to exercise the grey stuff, and thats Faeria. I was loathe to try it initially as it looked daunting and the few videos I previewed were confusing, but the solo stuff is the best introduction to any game I've played, and the FTP rewards make HS look like Scrooge. There's no comeback mechanism needed, the mana gain is handled in a brilliant way with collected and donated stored until the next turn so you only play stuff that impacts the board, and your turns are knife edge decisions to commit to a strategy, react to your opponent, or hold for a more favourable situation. Its well worth a look! (and if you like it, add me in game as recruiter "Sponge" and we both get even more free stuff.
Another Faeria fan, well met! What's your favorite deck? I'm personally enjoying Mono Green and Green/Yellow Sacrifice. Just opened Tethra in a pack the other day :D
I didnt play ESL so far, but from what i have heard is that aggro right now is the strongest archetype there, despite all the saying it favors control players more.
I have played until rank 6 so far (in less than a week), and I can say that's definitely wrong.
Ironically, Aggro decks are harder to play in ESL because vomiting your hand and just going face blindly will rekt you (thanks to the Rune Break mechanic). Sure, the right lane gives your minions Stealth, but unlike Hearthstone, Stealth minions can still be targeted by Spells/Battlecries. Also, vomiting your hand onto a single lane just gets you destroyed by AoEs.
Another reason Control decks are currently dominant (besides the lower difficulty curve) is the lack of Combo/Fatigue decks (I do have Combo decks, but have never fought against one. I've only played against 1 Fatigue deck so far). These are currently not very viable because of the 50 card deck and the lack of card draw in the game.
agree. although theoretical u can farm easily compare to HS. but how you win again pay player, pay player get upper hand by using tier 1 or greedy deck without any counter play. even with counter play u also lack of collection and loses until rage quit.
i really believe the shaman meta in HS is myth. every 10 games i meet 2 shaman only. the most class i meet is mage.
I've actually been play ESL for a bit more than a month now, and i can only agree! :D I still like Hs, I just only visit it when there is new content or when i need to help a friend with something.. ESL is just so much more fun to play (also their system makes Aggressive strategies a lot less dominant)
The game is good but it lacks the polish that Hearthstone has. I quit Hearthstone for this game a few months back, but I ended up coming back to hearthstone. Too expensive to play 2 card games.
Hearthstone, as much as we complain, is by far the best card game out there.

"I realized life is this crazy, mystical thing, and sometimes you just go out like a buster."
After playing ESL for almost a week, I have to say I'm really impressed with constructed/ranked. I'm a free2play player, and without even playing that much, I've reached rank 6 (Hearthstone equivalent of rank 11). Even though the Legendaries in ESL are really strong (initially I was worried it would be pay2win), I've managed beat decks that have a crazy amount of Legendaries with my deck filled only with starter cards.
The Rune Break mechanic is the best part about ESL. It allows Control decks to be equally viable as Aggro/Midrange decks, and Aggro decks now actually need skill to pilot.
The Shadow Lane mechanic is also really good because it allows Aggro to still be equally viable, despite the disadvantage from the Rune Break mechanic. Also, it allows minions with really skewed stats (like Magma Rager) or minions with Start of Turn effects to be viable.
Another awesome thing about ESL is that you cannot lose ranks (but can still lose stars). That allows theorycraftors like myself to try out new decks against players at our level (because nobody respects new decks in casual/rank 25) without risk. Because there is no win streak in bonus, playing more will not get you to Legend with a mere 50% winrate.
My worry about ESL is that it is copying waaaay too many things from Hearthstone, including the bad stuff. One of the themes of Blue (Intelligence) is RNG (Chaos), like Hearthstone's Mage. Constructed/Rank is awesome now, but I can foresee ESL going down the same path as Hearthstone.
Currently, ESL is easy to learn, but difficult to master, which is perfect for attracting both competitive and casual players. However, as some have mentioned, ESL may seem dull in comparison to Hearthstone to the casual player, because some moves may have deeper meanings which a casual spectator might not be able to grasp (eg. choosing to hold back a card). They should not add more RNG to the game to attract more casuals (the mistake Hearthstone did) or they will lose their competitive playerbase.
Unfortunately, my experience with Arena has been very disappointing thus far. It is exactly the same as Hearthstone's arena (why couldn't ESL have copied Shadowverse's arena instead? -.-). Rarities are random, and Epics/Legendaries are even more polarizing than in Hearthstone. Also, just like Hearthstone's arena, it is dominated by a single class.
Just one thing, from what I've heard about the early days out hearthstone, it also had many many decks that were viable, just as the game got older the game became way faster and less control based.
This is true. I started playing the first day of open beta and it was so fun I had to force myself to stop most days...
Ive also been playing Legends since early on and... same deal, real fun for the first 2 months and things have already settled as far as meta and you see copy and paste decks all the same. Assassin, Archer, flavor of the month decks ... now Hist Grove.. point is, ultimately Legends will end up in the same spot as Hearthstone.
For the record, I think Legends is the better game, but how much better is largely exaggerated. It's one step up IMO.
ETERNAL is also an awesome game, by the same company, Direwolf. ETERNAL is in closed beta right now. It is very similar to MtG in flavor and mechanics.
too many card game come to complete with HS. Everyone have difference view. Some prefer more rng for fun games. Some prefer aggro for casual and fast games. Some prefer pay to win games because they feel excited to win over other by paying. Some prefer slow control matchup. All kind of card games exits in this market.

As i said, im not so familiar with ESL, but the top Legend players use 80% aggro deck, accroding to sources.
the high variety of decks may be because the game is relatively new, once a meta settles or the game ages a little there will be some top 4 or top 5 decks that will be repeated over and over, with some tier 2 decks splashed in every once in a while.
Honestly there are many ccgs/tcgs in the market that do stuff better than hearthstone does but that was bound to happen, that's how competence works, hearthstone was just the game that popularized the genre because it does things way better than other digital card games that were in the market up to Hs's release , looking at you Soulforge, Urban rivals, alteil and Heroes of might and magic.*
why some of us don't move? because getting our collections was a grind (like in my case) or a money sink in other people's cases and we'd feel like we'd have wasted all that time or/and money if we suddenly stopped playing in order to move to another game plus even if they have a better model these games will still be a grind or a money sink.
* to be honest i do wonder why hearhstone popularized this genre, when yugioh was pretty much completely free when dueling network and devpro existed and even now you can play yugioh completely free in devpro and have access to all the cards from the start (which are more than 20k cards by now)., maybe people do need to have a feeling of progression to get interested into something.
Elder Scrolls: Legends released on iOS last Thursday.
I decided to give it a try. I couldn't take all the HS non-stop aggro any more... and hey, we have time before Un'Goro gets released.
What can I say, the OP summed up the difference between HS and Legends nicely. If you like HS, but want games to be more strategic instead of mindless face pummelling... then Legends isn't a bad option. Bethesda is also quite generous with their rewards, something I hope Blizzard will take note of at some point. (Six cards per pack for example.)
Playing both HS and Legends at the moment. Having lots of fun with Legends.
It's a fantastic game, i played two seasons but after Hearthstone it's so dull looking that it doesn't inspire me at all. Since i'm limited with time and can't afford to play many games, i chose Duelyst and Hearthstone.
It is better than HS in terms of depth, but as i said, lacks in the aesthetical component (at least for my taste).
it's about getting used to ESL, the game is a little harder to grasp than HS, sure the mechanics are easy to understand, but to feel and understand the games's vibe, you need to play at least a month, it's a deeper experience, ill give you and example
lets say i have 2 creature in a lane a 2/2 and a 6/1 and your opponent has 8 life (and you have 1 life), in HS it doesnt matter how you attack, in ESL you should attack with the 2/2 first, then attack with the 6/1, .... if you attack with the 6/1 first, you can lose the game (rune mechanic), that is what i call strategic deepness
sometimes my opponent is at 21 life, and i can still attack with a 1/1...but i wont, because sometimes it's not worth popping a rune..
in HS a 4/1 for (2) creature is stupid, in ESL a 4/1 is not bad at all in the shadow lane
some random example why ESL is a good game and should be tried at least
and BTW when you play rank in ESL, you get a season exclusive card (usually epic) for your rank...rank 9= 1 copy, rank 5= 2 copies, rank 2= 3 copies... if you missed it, it's craftable
of course i still play hearthstone, but i feel like playing agaisnt the same deck all the time , as a theorycrafter, i prefer ESL

The rune mechanic has both won and lost me games. I think it's great that you have a chance to interact on your oponent's turn at times. But what I find really fascinating, and you touch on this, is that creatures (minions in HS for those who are unfamiliar) and other mechanics that simply don't work in HS, work in Legends because of an overall lower power level, less end less powerfull AOE, and the use of the diffent lanes.
