So after about a month playing TESL, and years of playing Hearthstone.....I feel a thread like this is mandatory. This game is incredible for how early it's been out for a ccg, and I'll explain why I think so, and why in relation to Hearthstone this is a far better game.
I dont even mind the butthurt comments who disagree with me I know they're coming as this is a pro-hearthstone group. I still like hearthstone, it just doesn't compare to this game and I dont see myself playing hearthstone anymore because of it.
You actually get rewarded for your play in this game. Every 3 wins you'll get some rewards. Even in Practice mode playing AI you can farm soul gems, which is like dust in HS.. You'll get 15 for every win. IMO so far from what I've experienced in this game you really don't need to spend any money at all.... everything is grindable in a relatively fair amount of time. Arena rewards are far better than HS imo. I remember my first solo arena in this game went 9-1 and got a legendary as a reward amongst other things. Havent spent a dime in this game and have top tier decks already with most top tier cards in the game all thru grinding arena... Another month I should have every card in the game, all f2p. Also crafting legendaries much cheaper in this game, cost 1200 as opposed to HS's 1600. This game is just cheaper and much more rewarding than HS
More classes to play and balanced. With 5 archetypes in the game, you can have up to 15 class deck combinations. There is no one deck in the game right now that just steam rolls everything else, and it will never be like that. The company will always listen to their fans and give that into consideration before their own interests, and it shows. Opposite of Blizzard imo. Couple weeks ago they nerfed a card and gave the community a detailed explanation on why they thought it was necessary to do so. They are very interactive with customer base.
More viable decks to play on ladder. You aren't going to be running into the same decks over and over, theres so many different decks that can be played ppl are always inventing new things you can do as this game is still in open beta. Last look at Metasnapshot there was like 4 top tier decks, like 10 tier 2 decks, etc and while watching streams no one was using them haha. People are just creating awesome decks right now and its an exciting time
Ladder structure is much better. If you're at legend after the month is over you only start again at rank 5 for the next month, so way less of a grind. When you get to a rank in ladder, you dont lose ranks... can only go up. Until you get to legend of course then it works much like HS.
Cleaner, more mature card graphics. This might not matter to a lot of people, and some may disagree that this is relevant at all, but presentation matters a little bit to me as I'll be staring at that screen for hours a day. IMO the graphics on cards and interface just look more cleaner.... and not as cartoony. Effects sounds are better too IMO.
Higher skill cap. With the added mechanic of a secondary "shadow" lane as well as the rune system, whether to hit face, pass on early/late turns, turn set up, lethal setup etc everything is relevant from turn 1. Hearthstone planning and ingame strategy is child's play compared to the amount of things you need to consider in TESL. Was just playing a legend tier game and I passed a couple times turn 12 playing out his last proc goldband holding mantikoras lol and still trying to figure out what he was playing against me while he just didnt wanna hit me face to give me more cards obviously. You guys try passing end game turns in hearthstone and see what happens. See in this game, you are rewarded for clever play like your playing cards in real life, not just turn go turn go. And you're never really 100% out of the game if opponent has lethal on their turn as you can catch some prophecy cards to play while on his turn to stop them. You're never really out until you really are, fast concedes happen much less often in this game than HS
Tip of the iceberg on why I think the game is just generally better than Hearthstone overall I dont want to keep typing. Of course this is all my opinion, and to each their own. I speak as an ex legend hs player with 2 years in the game. But if you talk shit about the game without even really playing it then your opinion is equivalent to that of shit in a paper bag. And this game just came out.. it's only going to get better. Kripp has already quoted that the game is coming out for devices phones tablets etc like hearthstone did. My honest prediction as since this game has a higher skill cap and better mechanics than ccg hearthstone, it will be the new gold standard of digital card games. Just wait and see. This game is already starting to blow up, and when it comes on devices... damn get ready.
Just one thing, from what I've heard about the early days out hearthstone, it also had many many decks that were viable, just as the game got older the game became way faster and less control based.
Why should people get butthurt that you enjoy elder scrolls legend more than hearthstone? If you enjoy the game more than Hearthstone than good for you. This thread seems kind of pointless.
Not only what was mentioned above but the community is so much better. It's all adults, and the maturity difference really shows. For some odd reason it seems to have a huge female playerbase, and all are very attractive. I have only been playing for just a few hours, but I already met my wife. I also since joining have received a promotion at my job, and lost 15lbs
Graphics, gameplay, developers, playerbase, money, power, women. You get it all. Come to TESL
I've only spent about 12 hours with The Elder Scrolls: Legends there was only one serious thing that has much difference to Hearthstone and I really liked and also dream about to have such thing once in Hearthstone. These are the Runes. This was a unique mechanic for me, and I really liked that catch.
That can be great counter to Aggro and OTK decks and you don't have to have that feeling when you are under heavy face attack, that you can't do anything about it just wait until your hero dies.
(I've heard Magic has a mechanic like that but I've never played Magic or any other card game before.)
Without being biased, I've given ESL a try and I was very, very impressed. There are definitely a lot of things about the game (forget the mechanics, just features) that could make Hearthstone better if they were borrowed, but that's besides the point here.
I loved my experience with ESL, but I wasn't going to come to an easy conclusion like that. Why? Because I've been playing HS for years, and I played ESL for a month. Novelty factor aside, I just don't think it'd be rational for me to base a decision on the game based on such a small and isolated experience.
How balanced is it? Well I can't tell. You know why? Because in HS I've reached legend multiple times and played the game through-and-through for many years, whereas in ESL I've just reached some low ranks and had some fun with it while trying the game out, that's all. So just being rational and logical won't allow me to jump to that conclusion, not at least until I've reached the same amount of experience and actual understanding of the game.
I'm not here to defend HS, if anything like I said there are a lot of things ESL did better. I'm not here to say ESL is a bad game, in fact it's great and I loved my experience with it. But I'm just fascinated with how easily people allow themselves to make decisions like that given how much of a gigantic discrepancy there is between their experiences.
In response to OP's point of ESL having better rewards and lower dust cost for legendaries I think a few things should be noted. The rewards in elder scrolls legends are better than hearthstone: after 3 wins you get 15 gold and a random card, you can farm the A.I. for dust and legendaries are cheaper. At the same time ESL decks must have at least 50 cards and there are 2 types of legendaries. Unique legendaries are the same as in hearthstone meaning you can only have 1 copy in a deck, but there's a second type of legendary that you can have up to 3 in a deck like all the other cards in the game. So the rewards are better but that's offset in a way by the 3 copies per card in a deck and especially the 3 copies of not unique legendaries that can go in a deck.
LMAO it's always like that with any new game but after a few more months and more expansions get released then you will come back on the forums whining about the next overpowered deck/card and whining about how developers take too long to nerf something.
Honestly I couldn't care less if you think that UNO is a better game than Hearthstone (don't be the smartass who says it is -_-). You are allowed to have your opinion, and I wouldn't have a problem with you if you didn't go out of your way to post about how it's better. The argument is like saying "Christianity is a better Religion than Buddhism", it's as if you're trying to convert people to play the game, and I won't quit hearthstone, I've spent way too much money and time playing it to stop. Like c'mon man it's almost as if you have nothing better to do than talk about what game gives you an erection and what game doesn't. I think that hearthstone is in a shitty spot right now, I hate how I can only rank up with a select few decks, but I love playing fun decks, and that's something that hearthstone allows me to do, I'm okay with playing hearthstone because of moments like getting a 36/1 Am'gam Rager
Also I feel like hearthstone is the only game where it has the worst rewards for ladder/arena. Like the op mentioned, ESL has way better rewards for laddering and I've also been playing the Pokémon TCG online game and the versus rewards that game has every month is far superior to hearthstone as you can actually get specific cards and coins/tickets and even packs, and there is the trade option which helps in getting specific cards you need.
I haven't played ESL in a while. I liked it when I played, but I had trouble remembering the card names which to me a is a bit of a problem. I have to try it again now, though I probably am quite behind now.
I was able to get into the closed beta for Gwent...now that is a game that is going to be great. Cards are all easy to remember and RNG is very small. I'm enjoying it quite a bit. There are balance issues, but it's expected. Also have to see how they are going to implement ladder and so on.
I agree that ESL is better, but it lacks the Warcraft familiarity we have with HS cards. I don't really like Elder Scrolls games (playd Morrowind, didn't like it, gave the series a second chance, bought Oblivion, didn't like it, and then I gave up) so I'm not familiar with lore and characters.
But yes, games are longer and it's less casual friendly. And people play very badly too, mostly I suppose because the guys who fail at hearthstone try this one to see if they can come up on top. But when you fail at a game you fail at all of them.

Shadowverse is infinitely better than ESL, better than Hearthstone too. No need to make a thread about it, especially in the hearthstone discussion.

Ok, and why are you posting in hearthstone forum instead of ESL? Cuz they don't have one or nobody cares?

As far as i see hearthstone graphic and art is better than esl its way more intresting.
Esl is free2play friendly. Hearthstone was the same shit when it first came out

I quite prefer teh Hearthstone art/sound/polish.
ESL felt... Amaturish to me in the presentation.
I guess art is a subjective thing though, so your mileage may vary considerably.
