I used to enjoy TESL, but then they jacked the prices up to a ridiculous level overnight, wothout any warning, like Blizz did. In my region TESL pack prices are almost 50% higher than HS packs (60 tesl packs ~92$, 60 hs packs ~55$). I'm not an f2p player, far from it, but there's no justification for this.
Holy shit tes went south so fast D: I played yesterday after a long week at work and i faced only against hyper smorc decks and ultra greedy scouts...Not mentionting that everyone for some reason was behaving like a total douche. It's a bad day i thought so i stopped. After 5 hours of playing today the same exact thing.I am just unlucky i thought and watched streamers to see if they faced a different meta but nope...The game is right now in the exact same spot where hs was in the msog meta. The problem is that hs had such a backlash for that and it's the dominator of dccg. For tes to be in this spot when it started to become really popular might spell the end of it!
There are a shit ton of complains in their support site too and for fair reason.I really hope they do something fast because i love this game as much as gwent...
I haven't played HS since TESL open beta. I have no regrets as I think TESL is a far superior game, most likely being due to the fact that I'm an old-school MtG player (i.e. I love TESL's 5-color MtGesque theme). But I'm not here to bash HS, rather I am curious to hear from the players who have continued to play both: how do they currently compare?

I have been playing both HS and Legends since March. Over time I've started to spend more time on Legends and less time on HS. The main reason being that HS has too much RNG, too many broken cards, way too much aggro and the rewards for playing Legends are far better. (Arena rewards, daily login rewards, twitch drops, and 15+ gold and a card for three wins.) Skill is not rewarded in HS, nor are incorrect plays punished. You simply cannot win with "fun" or inventive decks any more.
I will admit that I've been having some unexpected fun with the new Kobolds & Catacombs expansion, but as soon as the meta settles, I expect the same old broken decks will resurface. I am not trying to hate on HS, but even though Legends isn't nearly as popular, it is by far the superior CCG.
Eternal is way better than TESL, but of course this is all a matter of opinion, as is every single point in the OP, except for the "viable decks" comment, which is a moving target in all games.
I play both Eternal and HS, for different reasons. Got bored with TESL a long time ago.

The warcraft world is more lighthearted and playful than the elder scrolls universe.
A game can have all the cool mechanics and balance in the world, but if it doesn't have flavor and charm - count me out. If I wanted a CCG that takes itself too seriously I would just play Magic.
Also, giving away the farm is a dumb way to make a viable CCG. collectibility depends on rarity. In Hearthstone F2Ps can keep up with maybe 1-4 tier 1-2 decks. If F2Ps can make everything they what they want from grinding, it is not a CCG, it is just a card game with a grind condition - lame!

I think in TESL it comes down on how much you enjoyed the Elder Scrolls games. I love Skyrim for example. Therefore I know characters and places of the cards.
Every game has it pros and cons. You can’t deny HS has a lot of charm. However, the F2P experience is terrible. I can only imagine how awful it is starting HS right now. 1-4 (big range btw) meta decks? Please. I think as a new player you’re not able to play one single meta deck for months without spending money or disenchant your collection. TESL is way better in this regard, single player experience too with currently three solo adventures. That being that, Bethesda aims profit by offering players a good start and if you like the game, you can buy more packs or the solo adventures for unique cards and story. I don’t have any trouble with that and happy to give them some money.
I’m looking forward to the announcement later this month. There was a reddit post that Bethesda will announce something esports related. Some nice tournaments and a competitive ladder and point system would be nice. Maybe even a possibility to earn a wild card (for more regular people) to tournaments via gauntlets. I think this would be awesome.
It is called commitment. I was new once, and it took years to build a collection where I can compete on the ladder, but building a tier one deck is far easier than it was gaining the card knowledge and skill to actually use a tier 1 deck.
I have never seen a meta where there wasn't a budget tier 1 deck with no more than 2 legendaries and maybe 3 - 4 epics, tops. If all you want to do is win, that is a low enough bar to reach that you can just pay the $100.00 or whatever to buy 10 packs from all the newest standard sets, guarantee yourself a few legendaries, and get cooking and you are ready to roll in standards by making some budget swaps to the cheapest tier 1 deck.
it is a COLLECTIBLE card game, if it was easy to get the best of everything no-one would buy packs. And more importantly, there would be no incentive to keep going - no pride in what you have assembled. Being F2P is a badge of honor - like adding another layer of difficulty onto the game.
You didn't acknowledge any flaws in the game. Why? I highly doubt it's a flawless game. Also, on the topic of being rewarded for play, i'm going to use Shadowverse as an example. They give you like, 40+ packs the day an expansions drops and then proceed to give you even more after that. I don't actually know how much you're rewarded in this Elder Scrolls game but if it's anything like that, you have a really boring game. There's no grinding, no incentive to play the game, no real reason to actually do anything because you get an entire collection of half baked card. I've also seen the mechanics of the game and it's not a simple format that Hearthstone has.
I actually really like Elder Scrolls and switched playing it as my main game from Hearthstone during the Un'Goro meta. What everyone says here is true. Elder Scrolls has an infinitely better ladder system and more deck diversity. But, it does have less charm and HS interface will always be top-knotch. Ultimately I stopped playing and came back to HS fulltime because it was too hard to build so many legendaries. Unlike HS, you can have 3 copies of legendaries in your 50-card sized deck. It didn't feel like I was getting anywhere in terms of my collection building as a result.
I tried ESL for like a couple months and just lost interest. I never played WOW or any ES games, so I have no familiarity with any lore. Like another poster said, I find HS to be charming and witty, and ES to be boring generic fantasy.
For better or worse, I also found ESL to be much easier. I shot up the ladder there with a simple aggro deck (red-blue I think?) of my own design, whereas in HS it was over a year before I had any real success without net-decking. I liked the challenge of HS. I also found that further up the ladder in ESL, I was seeing the same cards and deck-styles over and over, just like HS.
I do like the rune system of ESL, which, especially with prophecy, is a nice built-in aggro counter, but I did not like the multiple lanes concept, which seemed like an unnecessary complication with no thematic sense.
As someone who played a bit of MTG, ESL seems way more like an MTG wannabe than HS, even though HS also borrows to a large extent. For me, nothing will ever reach the level of SW CCG, which was so different than any other CCG I've played. Maybe someone will make a e-version of that sometime!

There are tons of other exciting things you can do in Legends. The game is balanced enough that any well built deck can succeed. Case in point:
