I'm curious why HS is still your #1? I find TESL so much more enjoyable.
I think it has to do with the flavor of the game (I was big into WoW for 5-6 years before HS so I really just enjoy the mythos), and the fact I have a collection in HS that allows me to do what I want without really needing to grind to build the decks I want to. Obviously both of those aren't really gameplay related but it does make it so that something that's similar to HS just feels less rewarding for me to play (one reason why I haven't picked up Shadowverse for instance). Neither of these are impossible to get over, but since I enjoy ESL and HS the fact that they're so similar works against ESL to me; this is why I split my time between Eternal and HS, since they just feel so different it's not an issue. For actual mechanical reasons I think the low card pool is a big reason I don't find deckbuilding as fun, and last I knew the amount of large board clears was pretty minimal which isn't bad but coming from HS is a part I missed.
It's totally legitimate to like ESL over HS I think, things like the Shadow lane are great for adding complexity and allowing you to play understatted minions that you want to protect. Flavor-wise it feels second to HS since the Elder Scrolls series is easily one of my top 5 favorite franchises, and I think they've done pretty well at capturing that. It's an absolutely great game and I could see why people have swapped to it over HS.
Thanks for responding. How is the meta in HS these days? (I haven't played it since TESL Open Beta began) From the little I've heard it's just as cancerous as it's always been, but I'm guessing you don't agree since it's still your #1.
Shadowverse gives away SO much free stuff, though. You can basically put together a top tier control deck within the first week just from the free packs you get. I've played less than a month (part-time....still made it to rank 5 in HS) and I already have 3 top tier decks. So much easier to get a decent collection in SV than it is in HS.
Interesting and that's good to hear, but I can't stand the visuals of Shadowverse. They make my head spin in a bad way.
Eternal is a great game, and I like what I have seen from it so far. Too bad Shadowverse has visuals I just can't stand looking at. Too over the top, and flashy for my tastes, and I can't stand anime as well :(
I have heard Shadowverse is very generous, and I've no doubt it wouldn't take long to get a solid collection; but the point still remains HS is the game where I already have the large collection and a flavor I like... and while I'm certain there are gameplay differences it's not enough to warrant my interest. Don't get me wrong, Shadowverse is still on my list of games to check out... it just hasn't had a huge draw to me is all.
Comparatively, Eternal seems extremely generous and has an actual draft system with a completely different system than HS. Of the games I've tried it's easily been the one I'm most excited about building up a collection in and trying new things simply because it's not even remotely the same as HS. Same thing with Duelyst (and hopefully soon Faeria), it's just more interesting to me to explore different systems than more of the same.
Yep I agree with you, because having more options to play is a good thing. It will help keep a player from getting bored or burnt out on one game if they only play HS let's say.
My collection is large in HS, and I have invested a lot of money into the game. There is no way I'm leaving it anytime soon that's for sure. Also, I still really enjoy playing the game even if the meta kinda of sucks atm.
I still need to give Faeria a try tho.
I also have a large HS collection, but that didn't stop me from leaving the game cold when I discovered TESL. And LOL at "meta kinda sucks atm" - in my experience it has always kinda sucked.
The #1 reason I love TESL is that I've been playing it since the beginning of Open Beta (5 months?) and even when I'm struggling on ladder, never once has it felt like HS cancer meta.

I played some of TESL when I first got it, but I don't play it much at all anymore. Not that I don't like the game, I just don't want to pay for packs atm. I will invest money into the game I'm sure, but I started playing Eternal just a few days ago.
I really like Eternal a lot, and I think I'll be investing into it before TESL. We shall see, but I'm still very happy with HS right now, and I won't be switching to a different card game anytime soon
Elder Scrolls Legends is going to be released soon! March is the word on the street. To celebrate, here's a video of a couple of absolutely crazy Altar of Despair decks going at it.

I started Shadowverse as well and I must say, I like the game mechanics. Possibly even more than the original HS from which Shadowverse is quite a copy. I dislike the manga-style, though. i might have given it a better chance at becoming my HS backup but then TES:L came along :-)

Battle doesn't need a purpose; the battle is its own purpose. You don't ask why a plague spreads or a field burns. Don't ask why I fight.
Patches is really cool and done well from design to being shot out of a cannon onto the board. It's the whole pirate package that's a problem. ESL is just bland from top to bottom and has no room for fun because it takes such a serious approach. It'll always be an alternative for people who like that kind of thing and can tolerate such a terrible UI, but not me.
Thinking of Patches haha I got him from the Arena pack I opened last night! The first time I was not happy about getting a new Legendary card I didn't have LOL
Stopped playing because I need a mobile version. Since when I am at the computer I have a greater desire to play non card games. But on mobile im all about card games.
Your first live match awaits: The Elder Scrolls: Legends is now officially launched on PC! This game update also introduces an option to pre-order our first Story, The Fall of the Dark Brotherhood, a new type of downloadable content featuring a standalone campaign and 40 new cards. We will be announcing these major milestones and more in full detail on the Legends website tomorrow but wanted to offer the very first look to our dedicated Beta players as Legends launches.
New expansion coming. New Story: The Fall of the Dark Brotherhood The first Story, The Fall of the Dark Brotherhood, is now available for pre-order. This new content will be released on April 5.
Betrayer... In truth, it was I who was betrayed. Still, I am hunted. Still, I am hated. Now, my blind eyes see what others cannot: that sometimes the hand of fate must be forced! Now go forth... unleash the tides of Doom... Upon all those...who would oppose us.
I played ESL when it was first out (open beta after reset). I was legend in the first 2 seasons then I stopped. Tbh I don't know how it is now but at the time it was more aggro then hearthstone. The game mechanics definitly favor aggro as well.
The "double" class concept is fun. The lack of heropower hurts the game imo (defensive hero powers would helped control tremendously).
It's very tempo orientated, on curve play. The attacker chooses the attacks same as HS and there is a lot of randomness. Also you can't answer your opponent's plays.
At the end of the day I would call it "worse hearthstone with cool elder scrolls re-skin"
I love this game and while I am going to be completely F2P, I am really excited for the moment I can afford Madhouse with Gold and the moment Dark Brotherhood becomes gold purchasable.

I love TES: Legends as well, and I plan on buying the pre-order this weekend. I didn't play the game much before, but now that it's out of beta...it's time to get into the game a lot more!
Btw, if you love Legends, why not spend the $20 bucks and buy the Dark Brotherhood?

I started TES:L some weeks ago and I love it. It might replace HS for me when mobile is added and !! if it connects to the PC account !!
This thread popping up in my notifications was a good reminder I need to uninstall this un-fun disappointment. Yea I'm that guy right now...
Not enough Patches, eh?

The classic tier: Reno Jackson | Elise Starseeker | Brann Bronzebeard.
