I don't want to debate about whether it justified or not, but Blizzard has requested the shutting down of a very popular vanilla WoW private server: Nostalrius. The staff already announced that they won't resist and that they are going to close down all of their servers the 10th of April.
The petition here demand the opening of an official legacy server and since Blizzard does not seem to realize how much people would be interested in such an offer, may be you could sign this too if you are! :)
Yep, I would love some BC servers as well, but I feel like Blizz won't do anything below 50k signatures or may be even 100k... There are currently almost 30k so it is damn possible, right?

Unfortunately, I doubt a company as big as Blizzard will care even if your petition reaches 100K, it's just how it is. A server I used to play on Divinity-X, was closed as well because it got pretty big (it was a damn RP server but they still closed it). I think it might be best to move on.
They won't care about a petition, just like NCSoft wouldn't sell the rights to City of Heroes for any amount of money.
They don't want people to be content with old, static content. It is in their best interest to keep everyone hungry for the next shiny new thing they decide to make.

This point would have been true for WoW a couple of years ago, but now that the numbers of suscribers is down to 3 million, they better realize that the 100k active account on Nostalrius might be something they could get money from! And I am not even mentionning the hundred of other shitty private servers that are only working because people feel nostalgic about a given expansion of the game.

Don't get me wrong -- I'd love to see an official vanilla server.
But in Blizzard's eyes, every player who is happy to play on such a server is a player who won't be forking over 50+ bucks for Legion.

Yeah I got your point, or more likely Blizz's point, but this strategy is not the best in 2016 I believe. Getting 15$ from the suscribtion is plenty enough when the game is having such a hard time because of the decrease of the population, don't you think?
But WoW is still a functioning MMOG with many millions of subscribers. You can find vanilla fan-servers for most old MMOs like Everquest, Camelot, etc that are not in danger of being shut down.
No way. Seriously? They were down a million two years ago, but still had 8 million. That's a crazy huge loss!
Well, the last time Activision released statistics was in early 2015 and the numbers of suscribers was down to 5 million. They said they would not give those statistics anymore because there were "other metrics that are better indicators of the overall Blizzard business performance" so basically it is too shameful to say.
I've read on several forums that it was currently down to 3 million but it must be only estimation and I'm not an expert of the current WoW, I've not been playing since Wotlk...

Thanks to you, this link got 20 signatures for the petition :)
There's quite definitely more out there, if not Vanilla, definitely TBC, WoTLK etc.
Yep, I would love some BC servers as well, but I feel like Blizz won't do anything below 50k signatures or may be even 100k... There are currently almost 30k so it is damn possible, right?
One the other hand Blizz probably won't care at all, like they said, you think [you want it], but you don't...
Why is Blizzard shutting the server down? I had never heard of it beforehand.
I returned to this game much like how a recovering alcoholic can relapse.
Signed. I for one would like to see a legacy WotLK server set up.
