But I mean The Lord of the Rings was already a metaphor for diversity. At the end, the summary for the whole novel is the alliance of different races against the common threat. With every race will fight this common threat with his different skill set. Therefore, this is already a beautiful metaphor for diversity and inclusion that can be applied in these days.
Some races, like the dwarfs, are specified in the novel that they are white. Tolkien also describes why they are white. He wrote that dwarfs are so ugly that it is impossible to define who are men and who are women because also women have beards. Dwarfs are also white because they live and have grown inside lightless mountains, so they have little melanin in their skin and for this reason they are white (and this make sense).
Now I wonder why they represent a black woman dwarf that seems a model. Is there a physical reason why she is black? How can she have melanin in her skin if she has grown in a fucking cave? I don't think that they will be able to justify with a common sense these stupid choices. Like now, this seems to me like doing a new Black Panther film where you ask George Clooney to be the Black Panther.
Wow, I didn't know until now Eminem was Sauron! :O
XD
