As per title I was wondering what the price for the remaining stock of the brand new RTX 20 series will be after the 3000 launch on the 17th of September.
As we know them so far ;
2060 super = 350£ 2070 super = 500£
2080 super = 700£ 2080ti = 1000£+
Also as per Nvidia announcement;
3070 = 499£ 3080 = 699£ 3090 = 1499£
Now let me drive the point home, if the 499£ 3070 is allegedly faster than the 1000£+ 2080ti and for 699£ the 3080 is twice as fast compared to a 2080ti how much do you think the 20 series will cost after the 30 series release?
There will be a massive sale of the current overpriced GPUs?
Here in my country there is a lot of people trying to sell for the normal price expecting to catch some ill informed victims, used hardware market in Brazil is a nightmare and the pandemic only make things worse.
That said, this new cards are insane overkill for any people don't have a massively powerful processor, i7 and Ryzen 7 as minimum and an awesome monitor, this should be the last piece of the puzzle for the upgrade.
Here I am very happy with my Ryzen 5 2400G, Vega 11 integrated graphics and 1080p IPS monitor.
The trouble is that the 2000 series cards are now not just out classed, they have also stopped production of them months and months ago. IT will take a little while to get through the remaining stock, but the stock is finite.
Then there's the issue with availability of the new cards. The 3000 series looks amazing on paper, but you need to actually have a store that has them in stock to be able to get one. That's easier said than done the first few months.
Which means that they may not actually have to take much off the price of the 2000 series. As 3000 series start becoming more available, 2000 series will start to run out of stock. By then you start to get the opposite problem. 2000 series cards may start to go for lower prices, but you may need to find a store that is still stocking them.
All in all I think prices will go down for the 2080, 2080 Super and 2080 Ti, but it's not going to be a huge amount. And the 2070 and 2070 Super cards are already quite competitively priced that there's not huge savings to be had.
Aside from all this, LOVE the 3000 series cards and am going to get one as soon as there's solid benchmarks from several sources so I can determine the AIB model I want to go for. I skipped the 2000 series so I'm due a VERY nice upgrade. :D
