Indeed, season 8 has been disappointing so far, and in more ways than one, not much left to add about that. Seems the guy who started this thread was basically right after all, even if judging only from the trailer, weeks before episode 1.
About the upcoming last episode... my bet is this:
Arya still has an evil queen to kill on her list, and since it seems Cersei is no longer available for that, Dany's the only suitable candidate.
Sub-bet on how to best approach her: Dothraki are too big to impersonate for the Stark girl, but maybe skinnier Greyworm would be ok?
Jon, Jon, Jon... Don't know, he might reluctantly accept the crown and un-happily reign over Westeros, or not. Personally, I would prefer the latter, some way or another.
If that was the case, the throne might well go to Tirion, why not? He's the right imp for the job ;)
And yes, many story threads still dangling. With just an hour, or a little more, it would be difficult even for better writers than D&D to provide a satisfying closure for everything. Afraid we're in for some more disappointment... though here I hope to be wrong. Kind of Varys' last words, huh? ;)
The show is great. I liken it to Empire Strikes Back. People complained - the bad guys won, Luke got his hand cut off, Solo was captured by Boba Fett, how dark, I'm done with this crap. Next movie people complained about the opposite - the good guys won, there were Ewoks, it was feel-good BS, they sold out. You can't have it both ways. I loved EP5 and I am hyped for the finale, whatever may come.

The awkward thing about Jon is that he would make a horrible ruler. I don't understand why everyone is trying to prop him up as their king. He's basically Ned Stark 2.0. He's too honest for politics and his dying as commander of the night's watch in both the books and the show (for different reasons, even!) proves it. Maybe with the Red Keep cleaned out with dragonfire he can hang in there a bit longer than Ned but his downfall would still be inevitable
I can't believe Varys of all people died for him. Varys, who could have busted Ned out as easily as he did with Tyrion but didn't because he was more useful where he was. Varys, who backed Dany's brother for "the good of the realm", which in the books was complete BS and his way of dodging the question of who he's working for (himself)
Imagine D&D actually makes Jon king next episode. It'd be a bad ending but they were too dumb to notice lol

Ebert gave 4/4 to both Empire and Jedi.
A quick review of the movie reviews at the time had people raving about both. They were incredibly successful and looked upon as classics 30 years later.
To quote Luke Skywalker in a much worse movie: "Amazing . . . every word of what you just said was wrong."
If you like the show, great. Please get out of the habit of shaping reality to fit the narrative. It's supposed to be the other way around.

Well . . . that was . . . a hell of a whimper to end on.

I kept hope until the final episode, but I guess it's fair to say this has to be the worst possible thing that ever happened on television. This wasn't only an insult against the characters, but also against the fans. Beyond redemption, I'll never rewatch this show again. Most disappointed moment of my life fml
It was certainly...a thing that happened. Not sure what to say about it, really. When the major moment happened, I turned to everyone else and was like "uhhh...we still have half the episode left." I was thinking things might become hectic, but then they didn't.
And now I wait for His Dark Materials, a book series I've actually read. I can be one of those "but the books!" people for once lel

I am going to go HAM on the first motherfucker who comes in here and says:
"aT lEaSt Me GoTs My Petz on GhOSt"
That fucking shot . . . the fucking shot at the end where Jon pets ghost was a relighted shot from Season 4.
It's like, "we can't be fucked to realize that Jon leaving his wolf behind without so much as an ear scratch is ridiculously offensive to anyone who has spent ten minutes watching this show, but when the internet calls us on it, we take the 'piss on them and tell them it's raining' approach".
GOD DAMN IT, I had resolved that everything that was spoiled in the freefolk subreddit was true, and that I could let this die with the silent fart of significance it deserved. But that last little insult really has me up in arms.
I will never throw a single dollar to anything these fucking writers do again. So help me God, I don't care if it's Star Wars.

Really enjoying the utter rage and "manifest destiny" approach the audience has taken with this finale.
6 seasons of watching g to see where the story goes, 1 season broken in half over two years of watching to see how the writers would give them what they wanted, not finish telling the story they set out to tell years ago.
I didn't think it was perfect, but that was a decent finale.
I am perfectly ready to either get nuked from orbit by all the professional writers on here that got a gig writing 8 seasons of HBO's biggest show to date, or to be completely ignored as people pile on to scream into the abyss because they devoted 8 years to this show and didn't get what they wanted out of it as if it was the world's slowest vending machine that gave them M&M's when they punched the code for Skittles.

Bland and predictable and about as middle-of-the-road as you can get, but given the state the rest of the season ended up in, I'll take what I can get. Now to fondly remember what a great show this was, conveniently forgetting all the shit parts like every nostalgic idiot does for anything.
Personally, I thought the series was okay. Not great, but not terrible. No series, with that level of hype, can live up to expectations.
The main issue for me is the series was too short and it felt rushed. Cramming huge plot resolutions, which you have spent the entire life of the show building to, into just 6 episodes, was a bad idea. I presume it was for budgetary reasons.
As a result, the battle against the Night King, the fall of Danny, etc. were not given the treatment they deserved. They certainly didn't feel climactic.

Breaking Bad have a nice final.
Daredevil have the absolutely best last season of all shows in television.
GoT don't needed to be perfect and lived up for all expectations, the serie pass the books, but the last two seasons was bad, very bad, many fanfictions have much better writing than they made, so disapointing, the problem is GoT for many years have so amazing writing and story telling and that deserved much better ending.

Budget isn't a problem, it's HBO were talking. Actually I think HBO would only profit if there were more episode/seasons. The show degenerated into a 90's action rated B-movie. I think me and alot of other fans wanted the show to end as the way it started: Unpredictable, raw, intelligent. How can the makers not be ashamed of themself for showing the world this pile of horse puke to the world? Shame on GRMM, D&D and HBO. Turning the best series ever into a cramped bowl of shit with plot twists and character development that woulnd even make it in pokemon. Shame on grmm. Shame

HBO offered the showrunners like, two more ten episode seasons or something like that. At the very least a full ten episode season for this one. They chose to do it in six episodes because they wanted it over with, and pretty badly screwed up this season because of it. Seriously, four more episodes and you have time to remove like, 90% of the issues with this season.
Ah well, as I said, it's over now. Hope to see you all in 15-20 years for GoT: Brotherhood.
