So, for those who did not see the "What's Next" panel for Hearthstone in Blizzcon, they announced that they would introduce a group of characters that would represent the typical "adventurers" in your DnD run. They called them "The Guild", and the Guild would be represented by a few Legendaries.
What I find interesting about the Guild is that almost all of them are female! The only one that isn't is Marin the Fox!
As a girl, I think that this is a nice little bit of female representation! ^-^ Of course, the gaming community seems to consist of a predominantly male audience, but I think it's nice of them to take the chance to introduce some original female characters now and then.
What do you guys and gals think?
It is actually 3 guys playing female characters and 1 girl. :P
While I wouldn't consider myself a "gamer" per say (I'm more casual), I don't care what gender the characters are just as long as the game mechanics work and create an interesting player experience. I honestly think that people get too hung up on this and use BS gender politics to tar games (e.g. getting GTA banned because the player can beat a prostitute, when you spend a good deal of the game yanking people out of cars and firing missiles at police) in liu of making a coherent argument (not the OP, just a general observation).
"Tit lady" in a gender-equal world should have a male counterpart "bulge dude": a grave robber who uses pants so tight you see his large bulge, which in the PS1 was a pyramid but then became more round
Super sensual femme fatale" (like Nikita from the TV show) should coexist in an entertainment world where "super sensual homme fatal" exists as well: from my perspective Hitman fulfills that role (an attractive, asexual assassin), so kudos for the equality there. My oinly issue here is, she should not be defined by "femme fatale", the way hitman (man understood as in human, not as in male) but only as a assassin, regardless of her role. I would love to play a Hitman video game where its actually a lady in a suit doing the same thing the regular Hitman does
Yeah, I remember the 90s. Where the power rangers were sorted by ethnicity. The hell were we thinking?
It's something that progress slowly.
But you're not talking about the obviously fan service Lara. You're talking about some ladies printed on cards, that I really find a hard time categorizing their images as "sexual". They just happen to be adventurers, who are also female.
"Cool, funny chick" is cool by me; my issue comes with the "hot". Why can't an average-looking chick be cool and funny without being hot? Maybe tracer from Overwatch fulfills that role, but then the audience tries to sexualize her (especially after her background portrays a lesbian hero and we know how popular lesbian porn is).
This... is an issue that I have with this speech. Everything can be interpreted in this way. Surely, Tracer couldn't be a girl who just happens to be lesbian, so lesbian girls can feel the game recognizes them not as aberrations, but simply as another sexual orientation. And Tracer sexuality, afaik, is rarely brought up, lorewise. She just happens to be attracted to other girls.
But no, she is lesbian because lesbian porn is popular. You're pushing it. Too much.
I think it's cool, but it's not like I ever suspected Blizzard of excluding characters from the game for their race/gender/lunchmeat preference. I think they could have picked some non-elf/human girls, but I guess they were worried less people would craft a golden tauren girl for "research" purposes :P

Look at this thing and let me know what you think!
Honestly I really hated the female representation has been going downhill in Warcraft over the years. Both in quality and quantity. Hearthstone has at least been consistent on not only including a fair amount of females in the cards but also keeping their outfits in a somewhat reasonable look and unoffensive.
I've actually had discussions with friends on how most of Warcrafts more inclusive writers and designers seem to have joined up on other Blizzard teams. But I could bitch about those problems all day, instead lets talk about how great the ethnic and gender variations are in Overwatch! That's how you do it.
It is clear that gender seems to be a complex subject. I regret to say that this is ultimately not a suitable subject for the audience here at HearthPwn, for many of the same reasons we do not allow political or religious discussion. For that reason this thread will now remain read-only.

I don’t mind. I neither love it nor hate it. I actually do not care about races, gender, religion, sexuality, income or (dis)ability.
It’s only your personality that matters.
And this is a card game so they don’t have personality. However if some find this awesome, then good for them :)

Cheers, neat observation!

Seems like an appropriate place to point out that Geosculptor Yip is also female.
