I quit smoking yesterday, and I need your support. I quit 5 years ago and didnt smoke for 4 years, and then i was about to get married (true story), and started smoking again. I'm happily married, but still can't quit smoking again.
Yesterday i quit again, and am having trouble to keep quitting. Please give me your support or advice, i need all the help i can get.
You can do it man! I personally can't imagine how hard it is to beat the habit since I don't smoke but I've watched both my dad and grand-dad struggle with it continuously, but you managed to win the fight once, and for a long time.
I don't have much advice for you, but you've done it before, you've fought the war. Get all your will power together and keep pushing back!
So, it didnt go so well last night, smoked 5 cigarettes in total, I still had some. Today is smoked 2. Hoping that'll be it. Just don't know how to get that will power i had when i quit 5 years ago.
Try to slowly minimize the amount of cigarettes used per today. For example if you usually smoke 2 packs a day the next day smoke 1 and a half packs and so on. 1 less cigarette each day or so will make it easier to quit as your consumption rate goes down. Also have your wife/friends/family help you quit smoking because you can't do it alone!!
I started running when giving up smoking. It draws attention to how shitty your lung capacity is and what you're doing to yourself. It also makes you think every time you have a cigarette of how much more painful its going to be for your run later on, coughing up tar half way around your run :). I havn't smoked for about 6 years now and would never go back because I much prefer feeling healthy and being able to do exercise without feeling like I'm 60 years old!
i was in the same boat as you smoked for 15 years then quit for 4 or 5 then smoked again for 2 and now i am 11 months "sober" and it's prety amazing feel . just remember how great it feals to not smoke. my partner smokes and i feel sorry for her to see going out in cold . it's AMAZING to NOT SMOKE . i also feel that i have more money to spend (just treat myself with an ipad air 2 ) feelsgoodmen
If you really want to quit smoking you should do it at once (don't smoke less or reduce the amount of cigarettes per day, it doesn't really help).
If you want to quit it, just quit!
The main reasons why you started to smoke again:
1. Bad company (yeah, your friends are smokers? good, so don't sit near them, avoid any smokers-company). 2. Stress (make yourself busy with something, try to not get stressed and avoid playing any games or actions that will make you stressed). (BTW, Ranked Mode in Hearthstone could increase your stress :P so stick with arenas and casuals atm). 3. Coffee & drinks (drink less coffee, avoid all the energy drinks, you should get used to WATER only!, it's the best for your health).
The first few days are the hardest. - Always have Gum laying around, shew on it whenever you feel the need to take a cigarette. Having something to do with your hands can also help (like a pen or something) - Don't try to scale down slowly - you need to quit 100%. :) - Throw away your cigarettes, if you have none laying around there's less chance that you'll start thinking about it. - Avoid smoker company until you've completely quit it, being close to other that smoke will give you the urge to do it too.
For a gamer, racing and fighting games are great as they are easy to pick up and play a couple of quick games, require a lot of attention and smoking is impossible while playing.
Ok, but seriously. I'm Trying to quit right now and I just take it reeeal slow. Never worked out for me if I quit spontaneously. Right now 3 cigs is my max (down from 10 last year). Maybe I get to quit next year. Good luck (to us both) :)
Thanks for al the support. My wife still smokes, that doesn't make it any easier. But i'm smoking a max of 5 cigs a day. I hope i can keep that up and then finally quit, when things settle down.
Thnx guys
