A couple of months back, someone on here (not sure who, apologies) had posted about how he (pretty sure it was a he) had used Hearthstone as motivation to lose weight. Basically, he limited his play to time on the treadmill, so if he was playing, that meant he was walking and burning calories
I am going through this weight-loss, getting fit process myself, and I realized I needed to incorporate some cardio into my routine. Unfortunately, I really hate just plodding along on a treadmill or elliptical, which for a variety of reasons is the most convenient option I have for cardio. I decided to give this guy's idea a try, and I have to say, it's a pretty awesome idea. I don't limit my play to time on the treadmill, but I can spend an hour on a treadmill, burning calories, and I barely notice the passage of time. Sometimes, the hour will run and I'll restart the treadmill because I'm in a groove. I do it every other day, with weights on those other days. It's been great, and I've actually had quite a bit of success with it.
Anyway, I wanted to throw out another vote for this idea if you're someone that would like to be more active, and offer up kudos to the dude that thought of it, whomever he may be. It took cardio from something I dread, to a chunk of time where I can just clear my head and get in some Hearthstone. Good stuff!
OP has probably the best/fastest way to lose weight.
I've started losing weight too and have a different (tho obvious strategy) with HS/video games in general.
One of things that hit me hard before losing weight was hearing that people who diet and exercise tend to have a higher percentage chance of giving up and that's been my experience as well. With that in mind I decided to start making changes on how I ate instead of exercising. I didn't want to jump in head first so I decided to just start with one change. The easiest change for me was to stop eating while I'm in front of the computer. This worked well for me because I'm a bit of night binger and that cut A LOT of calories out of my diet. Don't get me wrong I screwed up all the time and I felt guilty about it but I told myself not to give up and that I just made a stupid mistake. Not beating myself and making more and more small changes to my eating habits added up. Its been over a year and I've lost over 45 pounds (40 more to go!). I know its not a very original idea but this worked for me.
I did something similar at one point with Planetside 2. Any time I died and didn't get revived, I did 5 pushups. It worked decently, I'd do a good 20-30 pushups an hour. For not being in shape, that worked well!
Good for you that Heartstone is helping you in such a way.
When i feel frustrated i just put my laptop down on the floor and start doing push ups whenever i feel salty....
This way not only will i enjoy the workout because i like doing heartstone but this way i can put my negative fibes in a positive result ^^
That is such a good way to vent stress! I personally used to run laps around my apartment whenever I needed to burn excess energy, but I moved recently and haven't done that in a while... maybe I'll start it up again haha
Hmm, well played. I haven't 'worked out' in a while, but now I'm starting to do it again after gaining 20 lbs moving to college. Glad that you are finding a way to lose weight, maybe I'll try it too!

That's awesome, congrats on your success! I likewise have made small changes to the diet rather than trying to completely overhaul it at once. I started by trying to avoid junk food and deep fried food for a week. Well, that week became 2, and then 3, and by that point, I was seeing some really positive results and really had no interest in going back to eating like crap. I've made other changes along the way, but it's been incremental, and I think that has made a big difference.
I love this idea! I think I'm going to add this into the mix! For me lately, this will add up, lol!
Thank you to the overwhelming majority of you for the kind words, and I'm glad to hear that something similar has worked for some of you as well. Hey, whatever works, right?

Oh wow I did the same when I played Planetside 2!
When you think about it, either you git gud or you git swole. Either way, you win. :P
I recommend you to start doing weight training aswell. It's fun, challenging, it will change your body for the better and it keeps your metabolism elevated even hours after you've left the gym unlike cardio. Plus cardio alone is just boring, I wouldn't wish it upon my worst enemy.
Yeah, I actually started out with weight training alone, and decided to add cardio to have a way to get some activity on days when I was recovering, so I'm right there with you. I would much rather lift or otherwise exercise than just plodding along on a treadmill, but for those instances where a treadmill is the best option, Hearthstone makes it bearable. As you said, the time just flies by...
I used to grind levels in Final Fantasy IV on PSP while on the elliptical. Played through most of Fire Emblem on my 3DS as well. Goodness knows how many Pokemon were hatched out of eggs while I worked out... It's actually fun enough to do these things while working out, and playing Hearthstone was a good thing to do during a workout as well. Recently I've been watching streamers on Twitch and it passes the time quickly when you find a person who is very talkative and playing back to back games.
Am I pathetic for enjoying entertainment while I'm working out? Fine with me, if so. If there are folks out there who can be happy enough to just grind out hours on their treadmill/elliptical and enjoy themselves doing it, more power to them.
I'd like to know what your set-up is. You walk on a treadmill with a phone in your hands, or have it attached to the treadmill somehow? Or you use some tablet?
It sounds like an amazing idea and I might want to try it out. Cheers to you for sharing this idea! :)

That's a really good way to stay motivated/look forward to exercising :)
You're doing great, keep it up!

If you aren't playing Paladin, you're doing it wrong.

Should you craft/disenchant (Golden) Sylvanas or Ragnaros?
