They printed Black Cat for mage to use in odd decks, but we got only one terrible spell at 3 and that's it in the odd spell department for this expansion.. it barely got any support :/ feels bad since I was hyped to play odd mage and it seems that until next set there's no hope for the deck when it doesn't even have internal synergy with it's best card.
and if you wanna run more than 2 AOES (WHICH YOU HAVE TO)) you can't run 1 cost spells by any chance since you need Dragon's Fury.
In wild we got more options that are more viable.. I guess that was the point of the deck for now.
Yeah, seems like a card that could be more powerful in future expansions. Even without spells to combo with it, though, 3/3 + draw a card isn't terrible.
Mage overall was really all over the place this expansion. An elemental, a few cards based on having a minion-heavy deck that draws a lot, one card for the Odd archetype, one card for a Freeze deck (?), one card for a tempo deck with cheap spells, a weird minion that discovers secrets, a useless legendary, and a useless AoE.
And for AOE you can run 2x Flamestrike and 2x Dragon's Fury. You also have access to Frost Lich Jaina (I found out the hard way last night that Countess Ashmore does not draw this card....). So IMO the potential is definitely there. But....it's Odd Elemental Mage is probably worse than normal Elemental Mage; the additional point of damage just isn't worth running odd-only.

Life before death. Strength before weakness. Journey before destination.
Mage is definitely the sleeper class for this expansion. Anyone who disagrees is advised to try out Apxvoid's tempo elemental or aggro mage lists.
Yeah, no.
At top 100 Legend you could run any agro deck to top 10 easily. Nobody is playing serious decks at high legend right now.. except the three or four fucking tryhards like Apxvoid playing Smorc decks to make themselves feel special.
Let me know how that agro mage is looking when the last few days of April rolls around and the players get serious.
Odd Mage is currently better suited in Wild. Torches, Firelands Portal, plus some random spell generation in Babbling Book and Tome. Those can help get the even cost stuff you have to leave out in the build.

If you truly believe the average top 100 player cares about playing "fun" decks more than about winning, you likely haven't played this game for more than one month. Watch any pro(as in, top 500 legend or above) stream right now, and count the number of games the guy gets that aren't either against OTK shaman, odd hunter, dude paladin, cubelock, etc. What you said could be correct for the lower ranks(and legend dumpster), but definitely not for top 100 legend. Also what you said about people not playing aggro makes no sense, since the most common deck in the game right now for every rank beyond 5 is dude paladin.
You could be right that mage will become worse once decks become more refined, but I don't think so. Aggro mage is still one of the only decks that can counter cubelock without just losing to everything else. It might not be the single best class(probably won't) but it certainly won't be in the trash tier that people are making it out to be.
I think odd mage will be better some time in the next two years. It's kinda got the same treatment as Kingsbane rogue. By this I mean, if these decks got strong support immediately, we'd have to deal with that deck being top tier for 2 years (or one and a half years for Kingsbane).
Odd mage is in a bad spot right now, but some time in the next two years it will be stupid op and everyone will complain about it when the time comes. Mark my words.

The new 3 mana spell is far from terrible with so many paladins around...

Actually, and I'm being serious here, you can run either/both Tinkmaster Overspark and Faceless Manipulator in odd mage as a quasi Polymorph.
