Team Archon and Curse have partnered up to bring to you The Curse Trials! This tournament features a $30,000 prize pool but also requires some deckbuilding skill. The 16 invited players are not allowed to use Naxxramas or GvG cards! The tournament will run from February 17th to 19th and will be streamed on Twitch.
Quick Info
Players: 16
Prizepool: $30,000
Time: February 17-19 11 am PST/20:00 CET
Format: Standard Bo5 Conquest (Naxxramas and GvG banned)
They changed the rules? Originally, Classic cards were not allowed (as it says here). Now it's the first Standard tournament without the new Expansion. A Little bit disappointing, but then again, it will not matter much. At least we will see something different.
I don't understand why you're referring to this as Standard format, when Standard won't ever run without the new expansion. It's just misleading.
TBH I think that's confusing, too, and I would have loved if they just sticked to the original rules. Nevertheless I hope we will see some creative decks!
I expect Dragon Priest, Combo Druid, Hand/Renolock and aggro Shaman. They are all solid decks without Naxx and GvG. In Druid it's maybe the return of the Chillwind Yeti...

Replying to both you and Baliruk above, how is the naming of the format as "standard" confusing? We all know that the new expansions isn't out yet (or at least I hope we all know that). So, clearly this "standard" format does not include the new expansion. I guess they could name it "standard without the new expansion (spring 2016) format" but that sounds dumb to me since it's pretty obvious that the new expansion will not be played in this tournament.
The reason why they didn't stick with the original rules was because they announced this tournament before Blizz announced the standard format. Blizz didn't want people to get confused between this tournament's format and their new standard format so Blizz contacted them and asked them to change the tournament's format to go in line with the new standard format. This is what Amaz said on one of his streams last week or two weeks ago.
There also was a penalty for contestants bringing decks including cards from Naxx or GvG. In that case your opponent gets to remove those cards from your deck and replace them with others of his choice. It happened couple of times and for a Druid player Echoing Oozes became Majordomo Executus and Astral Communion
Purple was dragon if you go off the decklists there. I don't really want to check every one of the videos atm, but maybe it was a dragon shell with a few extra control tools or something? I don't know, that would make a lot more sense to me as a priest player. I've gone through and attempted to make control priest for standard, and while it definitely won't disappear completely I definitely don't see it as a strong deck unless the upcoming expansion brings us a few new tools.

Blizzard asked them whether they can change the rules to Standard to avoid confusion, and Amaz agreed with it.
The tournament really make me wonder what Cards they are going to Change when Standard mode arrives. From the current perspective I would say that Druid should definitly be targeted but who knows what the new Expansion will bring. At the Moment I am a Little concerned that we will really miss some of the more defensive Cards from GvG and Naxx.
Was anyone else really confused about Kolentos Hunter Deck? Maybe he just got really unlucky but I really did not see the Point Deck. Was really happy to see Lifecoach advance though :)

Interesting. I will have to tune in after class. I'm guessing we will see Druid, Shaman, and Warlock a lot.
I hope they use some freeze mage :) My favorite solitaire deck

I'd like to see all the new interesting decks they come up with. Hopefully they'll have one with Rogue.

So much hype! Can't wait to see what creative decks they come up with :)

Why did they change the set-up to Standard?! I would have loved to see a no Classic set tournament...
Thanks for taking a look!
Is someone going to upload it to youtube later? I doubt I will be able to watch it on live :(

That Thijs Savjz final was insane! Glad Savjz ended up losing after the DC victory early.
