started playing a couple weeks ago and really enjoying, since i played Magic the gathering all my childhood. I am focusing on Mage right now while casually playing Hunter/pally.
I feel like i am really doing well right now and not making many mistakes, but the game looks quite brutal for new players. I normally end up with players using Quest cards or some crazy combos. I even played with a Priest that made a loop combo creating creatures with 30+ attack :(...Casual games are no fun anymore i win 4/5 game at it (too many newbs there)
Right now i cant go past rank 16 on Standard Ranks. I currently dont have alot of cards so (bought the welcome pack and received only ONE mage card) i am doing a Mage burn deck with some control. I attached my deck below.
I recently returned to HS after a hiatus and played down from 25, and I faced quite a few "fresh" players (or at least players with fresh collections).
The difference in power was enormous. Obviously the difference has always been big (like in most games of this type), but even against players with a relatively reasonable deck construction and who didn't make any glaring mistakes it felt like it was almost impossible to lose.
I don't think I have seen the difference this big before.
I know you enjoy playing mage, but if you're looking to rank up you may want to try hunter if your collection is small. Hunter decks are probably the cheapest to build and can get you to rank 10 with no epics/legendaries.

Or legend even, Toast did a f2p run this month with hunter on a brand new account and got legend with 67% winrate, 190ish games.
You can no doubt make legend with hunter, as it it extremely consistent and faster than most decks, but I didn't want to say legend if he just started playing. Legend would require him keeping up with the current meta, knowing mulligans, etc. That he likely doesn't keep up with ATM as he's learning the cards.
- About seasons: In end of the month the season ends right? At the end of it, will any classic cards be transfered to Wild? My fear is to invest in classic cards and lose it in the end of a season. I wont play Wild anytime soon because it looks like you need alot more cards/investment.
- When you sign for Arena, does the classes you get to pick are random or they change every hour/day/week....?
That Mage deck isn't very good, TBH. I know your collection is limited, but you are using a lot of weak cards, especially in comparison to some of the "Basic" cards that you have access to. Can you upload your card collection to the innkeeper? I may be able to help you build a better deck.

Standard mode has all basic cards, classic cards, and latest 2 years expansion cards
Generally Classic Cards doest rotates out, but if it does u will get full dust back even if you didnt craft it
Hopefully in the upcoming Disguised Toast shows how he played his f2p budget hunter deck from rank 25 all the way to rank 1. Or you can watch all his 200 ish games he grinded in 3 weeks.
Made a Hunter deck and managed to go past Rank17 and reach 16.( and still going) I got a new Chest. Do i lose it if i get down ranked again?
Also, Hunter Beast combos are much better than Mage decks for new players with few cards indeed. I feel iam very much competitive.
Whatever chest you make it to, you keep for the end of the season. E.G. You hit rank 16, and lose all the way back to Rank 20. You still get the Rank 16 chest.
Ranks, you can lose within a milestone. 20-16, 15-11, 10-5, 5-1
Once you hit Rank 15 you need 4 stars per rank to move up. After rank 10 you need 5 stars.
This means, once you hit rank 15, you can't lose stars back to rank 16, but you can go from rank 16 to 20. Once you hit Legend, you're legend until the end of the season. Also, as most players find out the hard way, if they're lucky enough to get there, after rank 5 you no longer get a win streak bonus. You gain or lose 1 star each match.
Stick with it, you'll get there. Just focus on playing as best you can and trying to learn the cards. You'll climb high in no time. Hope this helped.

- Cards are rotated out to Wild only once per year (spring). At the end of the season you just get your reward and your rank is reset.
the chest is awarded for the highest rank you achieved during the season, it doesn't matter if you de-rank, it also seems that you've found hunter, it's consistent throghout the ranks but at higher ranks i'd recommend you to craft Golakka Crawler, to add to your hunter deck since hunter has troubles when facing Pirates, and golakka being a beast means running tech is not as punishing.

Some other questions i would love to get it guys:

If any classic cards gets dumbed to Wild you will get a full dust compensation. That is what Blizzard have done in the past.

Zoolock while considered bad, I played an un'goro variant to r5 this season with a 60+ % wr.
Only a few rates and the rest commons in the deck. Insanely cheap just like hunter and if played well can easily rank.
Wow guys...

Go check out my amazing wild Ozruk > Winrate deck!
Rank 15! Wow hunters....i won 7 of the last 8 games. My best result with the Mage was 2 wins in a row....
