Shadowverse looks really nice but it's like.. TOO nice and too cliche/bland. It's very clogged visually and the interaction between the cards don't feel as good or epic as Hearthstone.
Humor goes such a long way into setting a game apart IMO. Stuff like Voltron or Harrisson Jones. Just really cool flavorful cards that go beyond just the game. By comparison Shadowverse is so sterile.
There's also a big aspect that Hearthstone doesn't do too well: Collecting. A very big part of what makes card games fun is acquiring rare cards. Obviously you can't do that in a way that creates a pay barrier, but you could give alternate art cards for instance. Somewhat similar to giving golden cards, but rewarded in a different way through an achievement system.
Something that's really fun to watch right now is Kripp doing the new quests on ladder. He just makes the most terrible decks and gets wrecked. I feel this aspect of the game could be encouraged a LOT more vs this ladder idea that people don't really like grinding up on.
Arena can also use a nice overall.
Anyway, my point is... there's lots they can do and they have SO MUCH MONEY and talent but they keep screwing up in the most weirdly obvious ways, like making Firelands portal common. Just puzzling.
meeeh that only works with a perfect starting hand featuring a mInion that rotates in 5 months (Unearthed Raptor), otherwise Golem rogue is still pretty subpar comapred with Golem Druid and the Goon decks we got to see,
however the Kabal is also super underwhelming and that's right Kripp's alley and that's maybe what will cause Kripp to leave the game.
I think the Kabal are just horrible on paper. They've been doing amazing even without an entire expansion tailored to that style of play.
Okay I think we're all missing the majesty of a portmanteau that is "Krinniption." That said, if Kripp decides to leave because he doesn't enjoy HS, then good for him. No reason to keep playing a game you don't like.
Per Kripp's last stream he thinks the meta is going to be shit because of Jade Golems and how control won't be their counter. Hopefully he's wrong though
Kripp has money coming out the ass now. He's frugal and smart, he's already set for life. What could happen is that he just moves away from hearthstone gradually but really no other card game has the simplicity and polish of hearthstone, which is really what makes it appealing to try and also to watch.
I could design a better game easily, I guarantee it, but it would take hundreds of thousands of dollars to get it to the level of polish that Blizzard has achieved. That's really what you need to do if you want to pull people away from it. Who wants to watch Shadowverse? It's just the most bland anime crap of all time with overly designed GUIs. Yuck.
Haven't seen anything as epic as hearthstone, where they take the time to make even something totally stupid like Voltron really polished and cool so that THE ONE TIME that you make the deck to summon him and it works, it's so badass.
The game just rewards you for making something hard happen even with the art/visual aspect. Hearthstone is just absolutely top notch for that and for their easy to use interface.
Sadly they went too deep with the simplicity and the RNG and they just don't even want to back away from it. They want fast games, low queue times and low skill caps.
I'd jump ship real fast if there was any other game that could compare in polish and give me the experience I had when first playing hearthstone, but so far I haven't seen any such game. A lot of people try to take on hearthstone but just fail by making overly-complicated games that are confusing to watch and seem hard to set up and play.
it's easy to say to make a better game, it's a different story whether you actually can do it or not :/ go crowd fund if you think it's all that, heck i'd be interested to beta test kek.
that said i don't think krip will leave, why would he? he has the best job in the world. just play games all day >->; ...
But looking at all these druid jade golems i have a very bad feeling about this expansion.....

Well I am actually a game designer lol. On paper I think I can make a better game. Whether or not I could actually turn that into a finished product that competes with hearthstone, I doubt it.
I'd say what made this game work is 3 things:
1- The game design itself. Maybe 20% 2- The art and polish. 20% ( good luck beating this part ) 3- Their ridiculously huge established fan base from previous games. 60% ( can't ever compete with this )
If they had come up with Shadowverse, Kripp would be playing Shadowverse instead of Hearthstone.
