Heya guys! Yesterday during MTG draft, a few friends and myself had a discussion on how some games may be viewed as "good" by some people, and vice-versa. For example, some gamers may think that TLZ: Ocarina of Time is the best game of all time with no flaws, and some might argue that it has flaws and therefore not fitting to be in the "best game of all time" category.
I'm curious in the community's take on Hearthstone. Do you guys think it's a good game? If so, why? If it's a bad game, why is it bad? What do you think can be done to improve the game?
I think that Hearthstone is a great game because it combines everything that I found exciting about TCG's with crazy randomness and great animations. It's not the greatest game ever because it is not for everyone, but overall I think it was very well done.
Also, no game is perfect. You can't judge a game only on its flaws, you have to judge it as a whole package. Some of the best games have plenty of flaws.
The game is still fairly young and I believe the Blizzard team wants the same thing mst of us do. Given time I think this game will be one of the greats.
Its a great game, for many reason, and it´ll get better over the time.
For me one of the best aspects is time management. You can play the game non stop or skip for few days. There is no punishment for not playing the game. There is no guild who asks you to come and play together. Everything is in my hand and I like it.
I mostly play it mobile, and I consider it a great mobile game. Attractive design, playable in small chunks, lots to do (quests, ladder, brawl, etc). Of course it has flaws like any CCG/MMO is going to but I consider it to provide an above average return in fun and strategy for the time and money.
Hearthstone is not that good. As someone said, Hearthstone has a lot of potential, and some games are just awesome, but usually it fails to live up to the potential. It just has some serious design flaws. For example, the game is fun when you have a lot of options, i.e. a lot of cards in hand. But then you have cards like Divine Favor, that punish that really hard (and otherwise just don't make any sense regarding game design).
Hearthstone has a lot of really cool cards, like Nexus-Champion Saraad, Summoning Stone, and many more. But it is designed so horribly, that all the fun cards are not viable. Because if you want to play something cool, there is always someone willing to smash your face to death before you get to do that.
Hearthstone is one of the best games ever purely due to it being completely FREE!!! It is ridiculous to slam on Tavern Brawl, not only is it a 100% FREE, each week, for winning 1 match (bar Dec 2015) I receive a free pack of cards, AWESOME!! There is much room in Hearthstone for the self respect of winning or earning any card that there is.
The daily challenges, WOW!!! I don't play everyday but I do enjoy stacking up the challenges and knocking out 2 or 3 at a time with 2-5 wins. Arena, 2 x WOW!! !! Pay fake currency, earned in the game to compete against any other player (region), resulting in more FREE cards, dust and FREE game currency, FOR FREE!!!! Now there is a monthly/seasonal treasure chest reward system based 100% on each player's effort; oh yeah and it is 100% FREE.
There is one thing about Hearthstone I just don't understand, a successful electronic game company makes a 100% FREE game, offers to everyone on the internet as a free download with no requirement to pay for anything, EVER. They even provide a reasonable method to earn anything the game has to offer and yet many actual players would see fit to complain about it? I can only draw a solitary conclusion; the game is a gem and clearly ROCKS, the players are a completely different type of animal???
In closing, "DON'T LIKE IT, DON'T PLAY but if you don't like it and you payed to play, well...
It's one of the best games ever. It's not only addictive but it's fun to play too. A lot of addicting games are monotonous carrot-on-a-stick grindfests that bore you to tears but you still play because of the allure of that carrot. Hearthstone is a grind too but somehow Blizzard made the game fun too. It's rare to find a combo of both of those aspects.
While I certainly agree that there's room for improvement, Hearthstone is one of my favorite CCGs of all time. It's a very well structured game, and Blizzard (contrary to the opinions of many on this forum) has done great work with it, and I expect it to keep improving over time.
It's more fun and more addictive than any other card game I've played. I'm not going to delve into any "best game of all time" malarkey but it wins its genre, that being online card games.
This game is great. Some things about it are nevertheless genuinely upsetting. 1° Blizzard over-favored aggressive decks by making early game minions relatively by far better than mid/late game minions. 2° They are tooslow about making the needed changes in the game. I'd really be pleased to inflict a 20 hours marathon against Secret Paladins to the developers of this game, just to make them understand how their game is since 5 months.
At low ranks, the game is awesome. If you try to be competitive or reach high ranks (which one shouldn't do (except when trying to reach legend just to get into legend dumpster)) the game suddendly is horrible tryhard p2w RNG game.

TYFYT in advance :)

Look, Hearthstone, at this moment, it's not so good to ok.
When you think about the potential, oh my... this game could be SO MUCH BETTER. SO... MUCH... BETTER.
It's a shame Blizzard's Hearthstone division is a bunch of lazy asses. Can't balance the game, can't bring basic stuff...
Who cares about Tavern Brawl?? It's just to keep people busy and complaining less.
Always Squelch.

I play MTG, and still consider Hearthstone an awesome game

Aside from not getting any $ out of it, I think I do overall enjoy Hearthstone more than I enjoyed MTG the 4 years I played it.

I love Hearthstone, but I prefer watching other people playing it '----'

Trying Real Hard To Keep Hunter Relevant
It's frustrating, addictive, broken & fun at the same time. Mostly broken & frustrating during last season however.
I love this game and it is one of my favorites.
