Do you have an advantage if you buy packs? Of course.
Uhh... that was exactly my argument. Thank you for confirming.
-Regarding this being Blizzard's generous gift to us and the ability to play for free should be cherished...
Blizzard is nobody's friends and their decisions revolve around profit. They're goal is to get you in the door then pay an arm and a leg if you want to actually stay. That model, while relatively new to video games, has been around for ever... see razor blades.
Free to play exists in games like LoL and Dota, yet they are cosmetic upgrades. They don't give you a gameplay advantage like you so nicely stated above and I provided a quote for. In Dota you can have a purple sword instead of a green one, in hearthstone you get an 8/8 creature that does an immediate charge burst attack for 8 more damage every single turn.
Okay look's like you're using LoL as a non pay2win comparison Hearthstone. Not to mention they're entirely different genres but w/e:
Let's say in LoL, Renekton is an overpowered, top of the meta 6300 IP champion. Let's say in Hearthstone, it's equivalent is Ragnaros, a 1600 Dust Legendary. Both require MAJOR grinding (to grind 6300 IP it takes ~a month according to a calc) and you have the data for the time it takes to gather 1600 dust right here in this thread. Because you don't have these expensive, powerful champions/cards you complain and call the game pay2win when in reality it's pay to SKIP THE GRIND. and don't give me ur euphemism bullshit. meanwhile during this grind for apparently gamebreaking champions/cards, you have the option of using 450 IP champions or zoo or hunter decks that are extremely cheap. Some of these champions and decks actually COUNTER the above mentioned expensive ones, yet you REFUSE to use them. Whose fault is that? Yours. Now because you believe blizzard should act as a charity you come here on the forums and to make this whiny thread. and that's the worst solution available in this case.
Everything you said is so broken.
No champion in LoL is "overpowered", they release patches every week to make sure that very thing is not the case. It would break the game to have a blatantly broken champion. Ragnoros on the other hand is blatantly broken as compared to other common mana costing basic cards. There is a clear and obvious advantage in using him compared to a corehound.
Second, I have mentioned about 4 times now an absolutely reasonable way for which this game could be made fair and profitable. I will mention it for a 5th time now because your reading and comprehension skills don't seem particularly acute.
Charge $35 for all the cards, open a marketplace on top of that that accepts in game earned gold as well as real money for a myriad of customizable features(card backs/Hero portraits/Voice Packs/Board Skins). I think one professional artist could create 20 card backs in a single day, it is a basic 4x6 jpeg and they could sell them at 600 gold a pop. Create separate ladders for arena and constructed.
That would be the fair and extremely profitable way of handling it, instead they choose the diablo 3 auction house type of gauging their customers and burying them in micro transactions. They got slammed and embarrassed for doing it in diablo, unfortunately I don't believe the casual card game crowd playing on Ipad is adept enough to realize the scam.
Wow you really are hopeless aren't you? First of all your idea reveals your incompetent, lack of of understanding about business in any sort. $35 for all the cards? Don't make me laugh. Blizzard isn't a charity. They make Pay 2 skip grind to make money, not please players like you. And you've obviously never played League of Legends before, which leads me to wonder why in the world you're using it as a comparison. There have been broken champions for many months, especially Kassadin. They do not release balance patches every month and fix these problematic champions-- that is a blatant lie. And your ragnaros issue. It's your problem. Everyone's already given you ways to deal with control decks: play decks like zoo and hunter. But you refused. That's your problem. And comparing Rag to Core hound really only shows your own incompetence.
There are two very different definitions of "pay to win".
Some people define it as "you can pay money to increase your power", even if you can get the same increase through time and effort without spending money.
Others define it only as "you can pay money to get an increase in power which is only available by paying money".
Neither is right or wrong. The phrase doesn't have one precise definition.
But when you get people who define it one way, and other people who define it the other way, and they argue with each other.. well, you get a thread like this. Lots of smoke and flames and zero conversational value.

This, on the other hand.. let's just say, I am extremely confident that a collectible card game which removed all elements of card collecting and reduced it to just playing cards with everyone having all of them.. that would have a lifespan of about a month before everyone got bored and quit. I can't prove it. But I have zero doubts in my mind of that.

We are talking about 2D electronic playing cards(pictures) for which they stole the idea of affixes such as Charge,Silence, and Taunt from previous games. They created nothing original, there is no elaborate art or soundtrack. They invested pennies compared to what a AAA game costs to make. Yea I think $35 is a disgusting profit for what they created. This game can be run on a laptop from 2001 in a browser.
Why do you imply some incredible value to what amounts to a mostly copy cat flash game? Why is it so absurd to suggest they profit millions by charging $35 on such an uninspired product that has been done before?
What exactly is so valuable about Hearthstone, explain that to me. Why is $35 scoffed at by you for electronic pictures battling other electronic pictures?
You guys say "no, LoL and HS are different games, you shouln't compare it". And still try to speak about it lol
Also, with all due respect, Kassadin and Renekton are easily countered, especially since most kids who would buy RP and buy these champions wouldn't know how to play(MOBAs require way more skill and practice, not to mention knowledge of the game, Hearthstone requires inteligence and practice won't make you that much better, honestly). Legendaries are, in a mather of fact, easily countered too. I was trying to sublty change the topic to something worth discussing(I have 2 other replies here), something with meaning, but people would rather bash one another. Start thinking about what you are saying, because it's complete garbage. Have a good time fooling yourselves.
There is no gameplay advantage. All spending money does is give you a headstart. There are no cards that are available exclusively to paying customers (you could say golden Gelbin Mekkatorque, but regular Gelbin can be crafted by anyone, and the golden version offers no advantages). Every card in this game is available to everybody, whether you pay money or not.
It's not Pay-to-Win, it's Pay-to-Headstart. What this boils down to is that you're jealous that people can afford to get a headstart over you.
it's simple you have two options: you can either quit (and stop posting these threads nobody cares about) or actually pay for the fun you've had for the past months. HONESTLY THE BEST ANSWER HERE

They're not idiots, they know how to make money and they've been doing so for years and years. I'm still laughing. $35 for all the cards! If you can't see the value in this game and just come here on the forums to rampage, why are you playing this unoriginal game?

Just one simple question.
Why don't you explain to me then why everyone who is playing Rank 5 and below including legends that has every card unlocked(or at least the ones they want and use) and have no interest at all or need for new cards is still playing and playing a higher rate then a casual player would?
By your logic everyone who has unlocked every card should be done with the game then by now right? Yet that is not even remotely the case.
Why is $35 scoffed at by you for electronic pictures battling other electronic pictures?
Didn't you just describe any video game that costs $35? I mean the term "video game" itself evokes electronic pictures. As for the amount of work that they put into the game it looks a hell of a lot better than MTG online. They've added some very creative elements that are unique from paper card games so they have realized the potential of their medium. I think they've done a good job.
After Trump and Reynad have both run free to play decks up to legendary you can honestly not say that this is P2W. If you are getting legend envy... treat yourself and put some money in. Or just realize that it's not the size of your collection but how you use it.............. ........
Questions for OP, and I'm not trolling, I really want to know cause I'm trying to understand.
1. Why are you so mad at the game? Did you hit a wall while ranking and feel that it's legendaries that stops you from progressing further, or is it something else.
2. Why are you convinced that anyone running a legendary paid for it?
3. What do you spend money on in a month? You've racked up more than a 1000 wins, yet you make it sound that you flat out refuse to even drop a dime on this game, and you're pissed at anyone doing that. Personally I buy 15 packs every month. It's one of the only games I currently play and I'm enjoying myself. An evening out would cost more than that, so for me personally, I see the value.
1000 wins at 10 minutes per game with a 50% winrate means you've spent well over 300 hours on this game. Surely you found some enjoyment from playing the game otherwise you would have moved on a long time ago. Why not take a couple of days off, re-evaluate what you liked about it in the first place, and then come back to the game. If you're really hating it that much, what's the point in playing at all. Then rather find something else to invest your time into.
Honestly, if you're stuck at "x" Rank and you feel like Arena isn't free gold, just means you have a lot of room for improvement. I have 1090 Wins in Ranked, 2048 Wins in Arena and I have almost every card in the game sans a few worthless Legendaries at the moment.
Spent zero dollars because Arena is literally free gold if you have a good understanding of the game. 7+ wins and you get back your money and free cards basically and doesn't take long if you know how to draft and play a decent aggro or mid-range deck. Sometimes you will lose, but more times than not you will win. I will just grind Arena for a week, get about 1-2K gold, buy 20 packs, start again later when I need more gold.
Second, I have mentioned about 4 times now an absolutely reasonable way for which this game could be made fair and profitable. I will mention it for a 5th time now because your reading and comprehension skills don't seem particularly acute.

Funny how no response is given. That's the third time I called someone out saying the exact same thing to watch them scurry under a rock and not return. Your lack or response is plenty for me though.
Probably because most of us find the question ridiculous.
First, you're assuming that everyone who is rank 5+ has a complete card collection. Second, you're asking why people who have invested the months of gameplay required to accumulate a complete collection and are among it's best players would be more loyal to the game than someone who randomly shows up and spends $35.
You also seem to assume that the people at the top are not chomping at the bit for new content, when many of them are the ones who are most eager for the new expansion.

You literally didn't address anything. You just keep accusing me of "assuming". But ok.
What exactly does loyalty have to do with anything? Who even mentioned that? The comment that was made was that people would have no reason to continue playing the game without unlocking cards, I simply pointed out that there are many people who already have all the cards unlocked yet they are still playing.
And who cares who is or isn't eager for an expansion, what does that have to do with anything?
What a completely nonsensical and bizarre response.
Why are you putting assuming in brackets? You've been assuming from post one of this thread. No matter how hard you want them to be facts they are not. The most obvious one being that everyone running a legendary must have payed for it.
But it's getting more obvious that you're just bored and want to troll around, "and now I'm done" but stay around and try to incite people to personally attacking you by saying illogical and made up stats and statements to then call for a mod to take action.
Hopefully people will see that and stop feeding you, and move along to some discussions that uses logic and facts and not their opposites to try to further their view on a subject.

Do me a huge favor and take your own advice. Move along. You contribute nothing why are you even in my thread.
Bye, and don't let the door hit you on the way out.
This thread will be locked for the next 15 minutes so everyone can take a nice deep breath.
Other mods have been moderating comments in this thread and have not seen fit to lock it &c, so I won't mess with it either. But seriously, folks, what with the ad hominem attacks and all - though good points have been made on both sides, it's turning into more of a flame war than a discussion.
Regarding whether it was *meant* to be a discussion, I'll leave aside.
As a public service announcement - Don't Feed The Trolls. If you think something might be a troll, walk away. That's not directed at anyone in particular on this thread, just generally getting in arguments on the internet is not much good.

If you find my posts to be rude, objectionable, or whatever, well, I got tired of writing polite TL; DR (Too Long, Didn't Read) posts at crybaby whiners. So now I just make it short and nasty.
If you find that funny, well and good. If you find that sad, that's even better.

Is there a mod here? multiple personal attacks.

Thread unlocked, keep it nice-ish.
