Ok guys, threads made by users complaining about BMing and being insulted by other players after a game are very common on this forum, but I don't usually agree with them and I think that this game should push the social aspect to a whole new level.
We need an open chat with our opponents. Yes, I said that... and is very obvious that everyone has thought about this at least once. Why is it neccesary? Well, because I'm not playing against a machine/computer, I'm playing against a human being wtih feelings, and that is what makes the game more entertaining, and this game currently needs that: being more fun!. In this way, we can contact better with other players and most of the time enjoy much more the matches. Also, it would be easier to make new friends, and adding more emotes would be great to, just to being able to express ourselves in different ways.
And how we can stop bad manners and insults? Easily, a report system inside of the game (and yeah, everyone has probably thought about this already too), easy to use and available all the time (I'm still wondering why this has not been implemented yet... sigh...) Also, Blizzard should add the option to block the chat with the opponents and the emotes before starting the game on the option menu for those guys that doesn't enjoy this kind of things.
Blizz should just make the chat optional, and leave it off by default. Maybe they could even do the photo identification thing like WoW account recovery to make sure kids can't turn it on without parent consent.
The way it is now really sucks for people that actually enjoy the social aspects of card games and online games.
I think the developers were pretty smart to limit the social interaction in Hearthstone. The bottom line is that there is just too much room for toxicity.
Although I do wish there were a "F You" emote.

Hearthstone: A game where great victories are won by demonstrating exceptional skill, and losses are suffered due to bad RNG!
Hearthstone would lose a lot of its player base if reporting harassment was easy, especially if there was an open chat. You do realize people go through the hassle of adding you just to talk trash and unfriend, right? Now imagine if it was easier.
Don't get me wrong, I would be fine with assholes getting their asses kicked out of the game so it could be a more friendly environment, I just think blizzard wouldn't like losing all that potential money. I don't even know if they actually ban or punish the people I report... and it's such an inconvenience to do it, because you have to open the battle net client chat window and do it from there, and you must open the dialog before he/she unfriends you... I don't even know how to do it from the Ipad, or if there even is a way at all.
Not to mention that blizz could also argue that a chatting with your opponent during the game would make you lose focus, and that's bad because we're all really dumb. Actually that would probably happen to me, but yeah.
EDIT:
Oh yeah. While I don't think that will happen, it would open a new level of mind games in hearthstone. As a magic player I love bluffing and playing with my opponents head... using my finger to count imaginary damage I don't have, pretending that I'm not sure to cast a card, asking how many cards are in my opponent's graveyard when I have nothing that would interact with it... It really gives you an edge if you use it wisely instead of letting everyone know you're always doing it. An in-game chat wouldn't really give you all this power, as body language plays a huge role on this, but it sure would be a step in that direction, and that would be cool, I think.
I think it's enough if you just allow adding your current opponent to your friend list, during instead of just after the game. That way, you can decide yourself whether you want to listen to your opponent trash talk, or you can just ignore him.
I agree with everything OP has said, but I think the results of the polls will be skewed towards a positive because the only people who would bother reading the post are people interested in discussing the game. 90% of people probably cbf about it.
If there was an in-game-chat feature, I would suggest a setting to turn it off all together, because some delicate souls might get upset if the bad man on the other side says something they might be offended by. Also the chat setting should be greyed out if the person on the other side has disabled chat so you don't needlessly write blocks of text to someone who will never receive them.

Yeah, that is a very nice idea man. It happened me two times already where I faced the same opponents twice in a row on ladder and they accepted me during the second matches (the other guys that I faced in the same way probably didn't care about a nice conversation in-game). I enjoyed those games a lot.

I think everyone knows the game would pretty much be an auto fail if it had open chat by default.
However, I'm pretty sure the game would retain many more players if there was optional chat that had to be manually enabled. Of the people I know that no longer play, or play very little, the main issue is simply that the game doesn't have the multiplayer or player vs player feel to it.
With optional chat the only players that would chat would be between multiple people that choose to chat. Not much different from how it is now, except we can chat during the game rather than only after it.

That is probably true. But, how is that very different from what we have now? Letting your chat enabled is just as risky as accepting every friend invitation you get... maybe even more, because you don't even know if that guy is an asshole or not during mulligan. I get it that many people just wouldn't care about a trash talker, but maybe the guy that cares also wants to partake in the socialization with cool players, except that now he is even more vulnerable to assholes. And don't get me wrong, if he made the choice of enabling it he should be aware of the potential problems... but just like people who post ridiculous things on facebook and complain when trolls do their job, those guys may be just too naive to handle that kind of decision.
Of course maybe nothing of this makes sense and I'm just really sleepy.
I would love to hear from Ben Brode the reasons why this game social aspect is so poor, and if they are working on that or something. But maybe it would never happen... :(

And that is why you give people options. More options are never a bad thing.
We are all better free wizard poker players than all of hearthstone devs put together
I don't know, the devs are so worried about the new player experience (Ben Brode even said that they just released Ice Rager and Evil Heckler because of that, to improve this thing... just WTF, seriously, WTF for god sake...), that it seems that they usually forget about other very important things like this, and also, even about the players who already are willing to support this game with money till the end. Very depressing...
They can't hear you over the sound of their salary. I'm just greatful we even have this game and my stance on all issues like this is that we shouldn't care.

I believe he talked about this in one of the earlier interviews for Hearthstone. They believed that the chat would be too toxic and that is why they left it out. After playing several other online games myself I can say that it would be quite toxic and I would never use it myself.

Well, what about people that love the social aspect of games, and are not afraid of someone insulting them through a chat because they are able to remove them with just a click of their mouse?
Yeah, gonna chime in and say that making it easier for players to talk to each other is not something I wanna see. Considering all but one of the friend requests I've accepted have led to people yelling at me, I would rather not have a more active conversation with my opponents. Although if they went this direction I wouldn't mind as long as I could opt out.
(Mind you I still accept all friend requests. I can't tell you how much I enjoy their horrified reactions when they discover that I am a lvl 9000 Sass Master.)

Easy as it may be, it would still bring added toxicity to the game. People are still dumb enough to add people after the game, get insulted, and then come here to whine about it. All they had to do to avoid that is just not add the person, but they couldn't even do that.
Beyond that, look at it from a profits perspective. Adding a whole in game chat system is a pretty big and expensive undertaking, and it is unlikely that it would increase their profits enough to justify it.

This sounds like a great idea for players playing on their PCs and a nightmare for the rest of the players playing on their smartphone.

I voted for chat. It better for evolution of community.
Guys, Blizzard said something about it?
