Pretty sure the prefix originally comes from the Greek though, which would be where the Romans had gotten it from. So if you really want to be hifalutin about it, go by whatever the Greeks said. I personally say 'met-uh' but hey whatever.
I also want to say I'm just personally pretty disappointed because I thought this thread would actually feature peoples' insights on the *metagame*.
English is so confusing. I can't even discuss this because I don't know how your suggestions are pronounced. Can we agree that m is pronounced as m and t as t, and focus on the vowels a and e? And can we talk about them as "the a is pronounced as in car/cat/alien" or "the e is pronounced as it is pronounced in meet/met" because otherwise you have to explain how "ah" is pronounced when you claim it's pronounced like met-ah.

the reason for the 'ah' is to try to make it look different from the current spelling. Otherwise, they would be writing 'met-a'.
But going by how you put it:
m and t are m and t as you said.
e is a short e, like get/set/bet
a is pronounced like in car/bar.
Also note that Krip messes with the pronunciation on EVERYTHING and it's hard to tell which is purposeful and which isn't. He's the LAST person to use for figuring out the pronunciation of things.
Except you're using the wrong word. The word "meta" as it relates to the greater gaming state is not taken from the Roman word for columns, but rather is extrapolated from the prefix "meta-", which is pronounced meh-tuh. The prefix comes from the greek, not the Roman, and is pronounced on it's own the same way that it is as a prefix (a la metamorphosis, metaphysical, etc).

Oh my bad. I haven't actually watched the Kripp video, I just assumed he was discussing ancient Roman architecture.
How do you pronounce the word "meta"
I ask because I recently heard Kripp pronounce it as, "Meat-ah" (comical, considering he's a vegan)
I say it as, "Met-ah"
Are there others as well?
Is this a car-mall, care-a-mel thing where there is no right answer?
You... You wanna buy a funnel cake?
It's pronounced 'met-uh'.
Kripp pronounces it wrong. I'm pretty sure he does it on purpose. It makes it harder to take him seriously when he tries to be insightful.

meta (noun) [mee-tuh] : (in ancient Rome) a column or post, or a group of columns or posts, placed at each end of a racetrack to mark the turning places.
Kripp is correct. He's just not talking about what we think he's talking about.
