I would agree with B that some people are saying. I think it not only shows respect but at the same time it shows other people you are good at the game. That is a hard one to explain but I will use another game that I play, Go. Basically if you concede in the game it shows people that you are thinking that far ahead (I mean sure in HS it is a little different in the sense that you will get to the next game faster and such). Sometimes I will start playing my play then realize that doesn't work so instead of wasting my opponents time I concede IMHO out of respect.
I think with the whole conceding thing at this point it isn't always the case. When I am in a game and my opponent knows he is coming up one short and he still plays every card in his hand before he concedes this is less a sign of respect and more of the side effects of the anonymity of the Internet. Someone is just being an ahole for no particular reason other than the fact they know you have no idea who they are so they can get away with it lol.
Hopefully my ranting made sense. I definitely do it out of respect.
Regarding the issue of opponents throwing out all their cards when they already had lethal on the board: it was brought to my attention that the amount of experience your hero gains after a match is based on the number of cards played. I'm sure some people are just showing off when dumping their hand, but some are just maximizing their experience. Once I learned this little bit of trivia, I do what another poster said. I'll let my opponent have his/her final lethal turn, but if I see one of his/her cards light up or I don't see a minion hit my face within two seconds, I will concede. You want to have the satisfaction of killing me? Fine, you earned it. You want to take advantage of my time to squeeze out one more experience point or slow roll me? Don't be a jerk.
When the tables are turned, I just run my minion into them and end it. Honestly, I've come to like it when my opponent concedes. It saves us both time. After all, we both have lots of laddering to do.
I concede to save time for both me and my opponent. Time is gold in Hearthstone. The only exception is if I had a chance of an RNG win but it didn't work out. Sometimes then I just end turn and give my opponent the chance to finish me quickly. If they hesitate I just concede rather than wait for them to figure out how they want to win.
You concede because you know you have lost and you aren't going to wait around for the person to finish making their coffee or what ever they are doing to take the full 90 seconds of every turn. If you KNOW you have lost, there is absolutely no reason at all to play the game out.
Of course, "ultimate sign of respect" is waaaay off. Its the reverse of that, when you hit concede, there is also a bit of satisfaction knowing that you have not allowed you're opponent the pleasure of delivering the final blow.
Holysnowva: So yeah I understand that if a player is delaying their final turn, either by playing needless cards or you can sense they are AFK/distracted, conceding makes perfect sense and gets you out of a dumb situation. But you also are the first person to touch on my "C" choice. So why is it that you (or if you were speaking in general terms and not about yourself, then, 'someone') feel a sense of satisfaction in not allowing the opponent to kill you? That's kind of weak, just my opinion. I mean if you want to concede because it moves the game along quicker or whatever, then fine, but doing it because you prefer the opponent being unable to finish you off? Just seems kind of conceited to me (not to be confused with "conceded" lol).
The only time I concede is when I'm dead on board, have no outs and will absolutely die to my opponent the very next turn because I respect his skill in seeing that I am dead meat.
This doesn't mean I concede often. I get the idea that many players get too busy with clearing board and start getting some weird tunnel vision around killing my minions so they don't die on their next turn I presume. Often I will grant them their chance to error and not kill me while I was completely dead on board. I've come back a couple of times after being in situations that I shouldn't have survived if my opponent realized he had me dead.
Playing Casual, usually if my opponent has over lethal on board and I have nothing productive to do. Usually i'll play all the cards in my hand that I can (Do as much damage to my opponent / show them I have no answer) and then concede.
I'll never concede in ranked play, just because my opponent has lethal on board doesnt mean they'll see it, and I'll take a win off a misplay any day.

Shiizu/Wakko: I also tend to wait around to see if an opponent knows they have lethal. Most of the time they either know right away or realize it in a moment or two, and I die eventually, yeah. But sometimes I've seen them not make the proper play and in the process they've left me alive long enough to make a comeback.
Most of the time, I don't like to concede. I think it's an aweful move. I understand, when people who also play strategy games like starcraft don't wait until everything is destroyed and concede with a GG. So explained it a friend of mine to me, when I asked why he concede.
But it's just half a minute or so. Why you don't allow your opponent to make the final blow? Why you take his joy for winning, because you quit? These are my thoughts behind this. It's not polite. It's not good, it's just childish.
But sometimes I quit as well, but always for the same reason: My opponent is an asshole. I just can't describe it in any other way. When I have 3 Health and my opponent has 3 minions out there, all above a damage of 3 and I end my turn wating for him to kill me, that's okay. But I want it quick. But some see it as their chance to play EVERYTHING they have. And you can do a lot with 10 mana. Why they waste my time? Do they want to show, what else they have to defeat me? I got it, I lose, it's okay. But it's not okay to pull out your dick and rub it into my face. Do your move and kill me. Is that so hard to understand?
And then I'm glad that I have the button to quit.
How do you handle those guys? I just can't stand them.
childish? haha obviously hearthstone is your first and only CCG.. anyone who has ever played seriously in any kind of physical CCG knows that when the match is over you concede. not only does it save you both time, you are demonstrating the fact that you understand the game you are playing and know that it is over and you graciously bow in defeat or you are trying to move onto the next round and save yourself the bullsh$t of your opponent BMing you because he is acting like it is the first time he has ever won a game..
e) Other - Someone is BMing me and I'm bored of it.
That. ^
People so often will over do their win that it is really bad manners. You will be on 3 and they will take their turn to do like 12. It is unnecessary and irritating. That's why I concede.
In Match Play format for professional golf, players will concede holes when they feel like it would be nearly impossible for them to tie or win the hole. So the idea of "conceding" exists not only in CCG's and chess, but in professional sports as well. I agree with a lot of previous posters that conceding shows an understanding of the game, respect for the opposing player, and a desire to move on to the next game.

I haven't ever seen any "BM on purpose" case that help you making a comeback when you are losing in Hearthstone. But in real life card games, I have seen (and several time I did it myself) people trying to bluff their card as if it was a good/bad card. The purpose is to give their opponent a false read, thus lead to sub-optimal plays. Because of that reason, I rarely concede, knowing that there is a small chance that my opponent may f up and give me a chance to comeback.
I'm in more or less the same camp as Wakko and Modded.
In Casual I will concede if I know I've lost. This usually means that my opponent has lethal on the board and I have no way to get rid of it or sneak a win of my own in first. It will occasionally mean that my opponent has card advantage, and that anything I could draw from my deck can be countered by what is already showing on the board. If it is possible, I will "well played" and then suicide rather than concede.
In Ranked I generally will not concede.
I generally do not have a problem with someone playing out their hand before taking their win, so long as they play their cards one right after the other. I consider this the Hearthstone equivalent to showing your hand after the match. I would rather Hearthstone have an opt-in for end of game hand reveals, but since it does not...
In fact, I tend to prefer the mass reveals if my opponent is going to use a card from hand to achieve lethal. It helps me realize that it wasn't just a 'lucky topdeck' that gave them the win.
e) Other. Wife is calling. Baby is crying. I'm hungry.
My question is more why do people leave ("Your opponent left")?
Is it out of anger when they thought they had me and didn't?
I've seen it happen many times, especially when I play my shaman whose specialty is to make apparent comebacks (since I usually get pretty wounded in the early game). Does it feel better to quit the game than press Concede?
I don't buy it that the game just happened to "hang" right at those moments.
The image I like to imagine is that of a very angry opponent turning the computer off :)
Lol. Probably a sad ending to a terrible lose streak. I did that sometimes when I have decided that this should be the last game so instead of conceding I just quit straight away.
Usually a, I know people talk about time as if it's infinite, but if I can move onto the next thing 30 seconds quicker, that's 30 seconds of my life I'm getting that I wouldn't have otherwise.
Occasionally it's c. I usually do that when someone has done something to piss me off, like they took all 90 seconds each turn, or they were a season 1 pay2win warrior and I would be mad because they bought their way to legend.
1. Opponent has lethal on the board, it's my turn, and I have no answers or even stalls in hand to buy time. Why wait until next turn?
2. As someone posted before, someone has 'surprise' lethal (a charge minion for example), and rather than finish, they draw a card, play more buff minions, etc, and drag the game out unnecessarily. I don't care if you have a 'play x amount of x cost minions' quest. I don't even finish that quest by doing that to people. If you just play your games as normal, you will complete the quest.
3. Double Rag on turn 5 (innervate + innervate turn 4, then faceless turn 5. That's GG). Moving on...
4. This is rare, but even though the opponent may not have lethal on the board, if I know that I have exhausted my win conditions, no use in dragging out the inevitable. I may not know their deck to a T, but I know mine, and I know when it's finished.
5. Even more rare, Defender of Argus bugs out and doesn't taunt my Ancient Watcher. This happened yesterday, after a couple close losses, and I was done for the day.
BM = Bad Manner. Basically opponent spam emotes when they get lucky wins or intentionally does not end turn to delay a lost match.
I only concede when it's clear that I've lost. It seems retarded to make the enemy does redundant work. So may be point b.

Usually when the opponent has lethal on the board and they are just messing around like adding multiple buffs to a minion.
Not sure if hyped yet.
I do when my opponent has lethal on the board and I have no answers. It saves both of us time.
I view the most honorable death as suiciding your hero into an enemy minion, after emoting "Well Played."
Unless explicitly stated, my posts are my opinion and mine only.
