So today I was grinding for legend with murloc pally, it was all good, but at the rank 1-2 range i have faced a LOT of DHs. So I switched to rez priest. It was okay, but suddenly I have faced a control warrior with Elysiana. It was tough, I needed to manage my resources correctly, but I was almost sure that Im gonna lose that match. Then, the unthinkable happened.
I just OUTGRINDED Elysiana !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Later I got legend but who cares? I just fucking OUTGRINDED ELYSIANA!!!!
That has never happened before and I honestly didnt think its even possible. But that match made my day.
Just played a tempo DH, with my not-so-competitive midrange/control Galakrond priest (midrange early to hold until sweepers and control later, relying on Gala for late game value). Ideally want to curve out pretty well between 1 and 5, and from 6 on I have good spells and control cards. So in this post-mulligan hand, I've ended up with Imprisoned Homunculus, which is great, but nothing else until about 4 or 5, which is not so great.
Going second, opponent just hero powers first - groovy. I draw another 4 drop, play the Homunculus, pass. Opponent plays +2 attack draw a card, groovy. I topdeck... EVIL Conscripter - sweet; just about the best I could've asked for (also run Loot Hoarder, but that's far worse against DHs; considering swapping it for just about any 2 drop that can give me a little value or be above stats and be at least a 2/2). Opponent played a late Battlefield and hero powered; cool, at least they're not curving out well. I topdeck... Dragonmaw Overseer. Yes! Seeing as the Conscripter is trading out, Overseer being guaranteed to hit an awakened Homunculus is basically the dream 1-2-3 play I can ask for.
From there, the game proceeded with me keeping on dropping threats and efficiently removing any of his - but I would be remiss if I didn't point out that I gained two more Overseers off of invocations, and was always on top of the board (so they were always gaining value). Lethal ultimately came when my opponent played a Priestess into a ~6/7 Homunculus and two 2/2s while on 10 health, did kill one of the 2/2s, but I finally got to play that Lackey I got on turn 2 - Kobold Lackey (though I had SW:D and other goodstuff in hand if that hadn't worked).
Just so satisfying to beat a DH, and to topdeck so magnificently for 2 turns to turn a pretty meh opening hand into one of the best curves the deck can ask for.
Oppenent is highlander rogue and I am highlander mage I used everything including reno and only three card left and I have nothing at deck opponent have 4 hp one khartut and lackey on his board and I have nothing he plays dq alex finds kaleckos plays a trap and other 0 mana drakonid have 5 minion on board at this point I think I lose the game but damn I have dq alex on my hand I might find a deathwing right I wait patiently than he presses to the end the turn button and gets a Nether Breath directly to his face because dear reno decided to end his whole career as rogue.
I was put on my heels early by having to deal with a 12/12 Edwin VanCleef. Edwin never got the chance to hit me but it burned up a number of my cards and gave the momentum to my skillful opponent.
For turns 7,8 and 9 I was in full retreat and stay alive mode with nothing staying on the board. He plays Galakrond, the Nightmare then Kronx Dragonhoof and picks the 8/8 Tuant.
I'm using every freeze in the book to not die with Reno waiting in hand with all his awesomeness. I've got a plan in place and the cards to do it... I just need to get there. Heck I even had to throw a decoy Khadgar down on the board to draw some of the fire on turn 8 or 9.
His turn 9, with full health and 5 armor, he plays Dragonqueen Alexstrasza and after about 20 seconds of some very nerve wracking card touching.... the final pin clicks into place as he finally drops the two free dragons down (oops).
What a half frozen and half sleeping, monsterous board of minions vs. my empty one. I can sense him already moving on to his next game in his head, wondering if it will be an easy Mage again or something different. Maybe it will even be this guy again... lol that would rock... KEKW.... look at his name... rofl... loser...
His turn 10 was a bit of a shock stutter. He had obviously blown his whole minion load the turns before. I don't recall what he did but I don't think anything hit the board. If anything did, Reno took care of it for me.
Maybe I don't exactly recall because they say the brain loses a certain number of seconds of memory before and after experiencing severe trauma. Though I thought that only applied to the one experiencing the trauma and not the one dispensing it... but I'm no doctor. Back to the trauma...

Jesus tapdancing Christ... were both the dragons he got pretty meh, or did he actually play out three endgame threats into an empty board against a mage? I hang around low silver just playing janky stuff for fun - it's been years since I did a serious ladder push - but it's reassuring to know that even at almost-diamond players can be that bad, that they'll completely disregard cards that are almost *definitely* in their opponent's deck.

Yes sir, it amazes me sometimes. One game I was playing a Highlander Dragon Mage variant with Reno in hand. Turn 9 I played my DragQueen. I did a little slow intentionally awkward back and forth check of the new dragons then finished my turn and said "Oops". He fell for it, playing his DragQueen and then both his free dragons. I followed by attacking with Alex and then played Reno and my 2 free dragons.
In fact that move has worked several times now. Make it look like a bad draw of free dragons and they take the momentum shift and go all in with their minions the next turn.... only to get wiped out by Reno and then lose the rebuild battle.
I really need to remind myself to record more my games as I just had one hell of a highlight reel moment. I made it through a lot to get to this point but allow me to set the scene...
Highlander Priest (Me) vs Demon Hunter
I'm at 2 health while they sit comfortably at 26 health. I have 3 minions on board, they have 0. I have 5 cards in hand, 12 in deck while they have 0 cards in hand and 2 in deck. I have no idea what the Demon Hunter's final 2 cards are but I drop 'Reliquary of Souls' onto the board as I'm dangerously low on health and could use whatever Lifesteal I can get.
My desire for more health didn't last long as the Demon Hunter drew 'Eye Beam' and removed my 'Reliquary of Souls'. Followed that up with using their Hero Power and bringing me down to 1 health before ending their turn. Thinking of what potential 'outs' I have left in my deck:
'Penance' or 'Reliquary Prime'
...I draw neither. I'm staring at my 'Dragonqueen Alexstrasza' and hope for some sort of heal or taunt and hope it is enough for whatever the last remaining card of the Demon Hunter is. I drop the Dragonqueen onto the board and what appears in my hand?
Nozari! Both of our health pools have been reset to 30 and they conceded the following turn.
Overkill - dropping a pyroblast on a 2-health 1-drop in arena because you're otherwise dead. Not a very efficient use of mana :P That was a nail biter of a game :) deep freeze, opp shadow madnesses, I rip a faceless corruptor off the top to handle the board... Opp's last draw was a pit croc, with me on 6, 1 damage on their board, and a bunch of 1/1 taunts on mine. Game was probably sealed by the abysmal psychopomp that hit... a sheep token, though the corruptor was the clutch draw to save me, tbh. Just love that I dropped the biggest spell in the game... on a lightwarden.
Also, dragonqueen Alex has just won a fair few of these arena games alone. Brutal arena card.
Having brann bronzebeard on the field. Play dragonqueen alexstraza. Get 4 0-mana cost dragons. Including another dragonqueen alexstraza. My hand went from almost empty to full with 0 cost dragons. On top of that I got Ysera unleashed. So my deck got also a fourtheen dragon card boost. And the game was won soon after.
I don't really enjoy playing any 'straight up' demon hunter decks - they're mostly super similar, yet I feel compelled to put at least some work into them (I'm a completionist and achievement hunter - I'm about 85-90% in progress towards having the other 9 1000 win heroes, but DH is lagging way behind for obvious reasons). So I put together a wild combo deck - it's partially midrange, includes a N'Zoth package (because why not, it's wild after all, and Coilfang Warlord is a beast of a target to hit with N'Zoth), and the combo.
I play my games in sets of 3 wins (easiest way I find to keep track of how much progress I have towards a 10g reward - if I always play in sets of 3 wins, then I'm always at 0/3 when I start playing) - first two games were just normal midrange wins. Thought I'd get to use the combo in the second against a control warrior, but it turns out Drakkari Enchanter is also pretty good if you play it with Priestess of Fury, while already having one out. :-P
Game 3 though... some variant of rez priest. -.- Now this is jank-ville silver, so it was pretty suboptimal - seemed to be focused around rezzing Vargoth, yet included a bunch of weird cards like Mind Vision. Anywho, thanks to a Mass Res giving him a board full of Vargoths - and Chaos Nova distinctly not dealing with 5+ health minions - I'm actually suffering the beatdown here. However, I've assembled the entire 40 damage combo + Enchanter in hand. I draw Thaurissan, play him alongside Enchanter. Next turn, I'm able to clear with those two plus the Nova, and set up my Metamorphosis. I'm on 13 at this point, but the opponent's board is empty so when I pass, I'm hoping he just deploys out some stuff. Sure enough, that's what they do. Excellent...
On my turn: Clockwork Automaton, Faceless Manipulator, Faceless Manipulator. Uh oh! Now my demon blasts deal 40 damage each! BOOM, blast to the face.
Now that's how you play demon hunter if you want to do something different. :-P

Turn 10 I drop The Amazing Reno and the world goes *Poof!*.
His turn 10 was a bit of a shock stutter. He had obviously blown his whole minion load the turns before. I don't recall what he did but I don't think anything hit the board. If anything did, Reno took care of it for me.

My turn 11 I drop the 0 cost Learn Draconic then Khadgar, then Power of Creation for 4x Argent Commander.... which triggers Learn Draconic for 2x 6/6 dragons. I then attack for a surprise 16 damage on turn 11 with a 6 decent minion advantage over his empty board.
Opponent quits on his turn his 11.... and Reno gives a parting "Thanks! I am pretty incredible."
Almost makes up for Reno turning my 10 cards in hand into random demons an hour earlier.... almost.
I almost conceeded after seeing the Dark Pharao Tekahn...

I got to Legend for the first time in my 5 years of playing Hearthstone! Thanks Spell Druid!
To the guy who played Astral Comunion Druid in diamond 5... I salute you.
There was so much tension yet fun in that game, I can't thank you enough for giving a break from all those mages, warlocks and demon hunters in wild.
Also you're one hell of a brave soul, I hope you are getting to legend with that guy ^^

Well, he had nothing to lose at a rank floor. So why not play something crazy?)
Also, could you help me reach wild diamond 5 by the end of the month? I'm currently stuck at 8. Do you play in Europe?

Dragonqueen can't give you another Dragonqueen since she was nerfed. This is BS. Why would you lie on a topic like this one ?
Was a few months ago before she got nerfed.
Didn't understand that. My bad, I didn't want to appear mean or anything. Good ol' times... ;-)
I see some different opinions. But for me this is the best expansion in a while. Having a blast to play. :)
Agreed! Except for DH but in comparison to all other expansions this is the most fun I had in a looooong time with HS!
Also see attached :)
