I'm absolutely frustrated right now. I've had amazing starts every match I've played against secret paladin. I've tried board control. I've tried rushing his face faster. No matter what: Mysterious Challenger on T6. How are people beating this deck? I'm trying to use Mech Shaman which worked well for me. I'd put tons of mechs down early and sweep his board but it's still not enough. What decks are you guys using to beat them? They're literally 2/3 of the matchups I've played against.
Face Hunter with Flare = so much rape it's not even funny
Board-control Shaman counters it pretty good as well, keep an Hex for the Challenger turn.
I've not played Mech Shaman in a long time, but if you keep a healthy board and save some hard removal for the Mysterious Cancer turn you should be fine.
It's an annoying deck to face, and recently many people cut some secrets in order to add more late game stuff. For some decks it will always be a tough matchup, some other decks will stomp it like there's no tomorrow, especially now that everyone knows that deck. CUrrently the difficult part is to tell if it's the more face-version, mid-rangey version with Murloc Knight, or more late game with Tyrion, Dr Boom and crap like that.
No matter what deck you're playing, you need to gain board position before they drop MS. I never thought Mech Shaman (actually Shaman in general) was very good at this. Paladin's minions beat down on Shaman's pretty hard. In my experience I found Priest (Dragon and traditional Control), regular Midrange Paladin, Rogue, and Zoo to all be good decks against Secret Paladin. They're not auto-wins, but they have a good chance of winning. (60-40 I'd say). Also, try Face Hunter. With the lack of taunts and lifegain, Face Hunter wrecks MS Paladin.
You really only need to get past that first challenger without taking loads of damage and you've pretty much won the game since the second one is always a LOT weaker. If you have a minion on board and some kind of removal for a buffed Challenger, you're golden. So any deck that has fat/sticky minions should do the trick. Dragon Priest and Patron absolutely destroy that deck (unless your draw like crap, but that's the same for any match up).
Secret Paladin is easy as a Tempo deck. The moment he plays the Challenger mostly you can ignore him, trigger his Get Down and go for face. Thats it.
Oh yeah, just ignore the 9/8 + 2/1 and whatever else is on board. Easy peasy.
Or you can simply remove it with an hard-removal. BGH, SW:D, Hex, Poly, Mulch, Drain Soul gets rid of the 9/8 and than it's over. The paladin can only hope for the second Challenger and even then it's not as dangerous as nr. one.
More dangerous than the Challenger is the rush until then. If the paladin have a perfect starting hand it's over; heck i got wrecked with a single secret that resurrected one of the two Shielded Minibot that the paladin played after 2 Muster for battle with an Knife Juggler on the field.
I have more fear of the early game then the challenger.
Tempo Mage is pretty good against them because Mana Wyrm and Flamewaker are really good against them and if they don't have board control the deck isn't that good. Playing a single Polymorph is really useful too, against the midrange variants.
Druid is pretty strong too. The traditional Midrange Druid is not great against it, but aggro, token, and ramp varieties can be pretty good. Rogue is great against them since the tempo plays are super good against them, but you'll probably lose to every other deck so maybe not that one.
Brode's "counter" to Mysterious Challenger or the maximum number or secrets, because we all know it's coming.
Every deck had Undertaker -> Blizzard released Lil Exorcist as a counter. No one played it, Undertaker was eventually nerfed.
My guess is that the first counter to Mysterious Cancer will be something like a "DOOMBRINGER OF FINAL DESTINY":4 mana 3/3 - Battlecry: If your opponent controls 3 or more secrets, gain 2 life".

HARD COUNTERED.
Or simply you just limit the maximum number of secrets in play to 3 and nerf the stats of Mysterious Challenged (not a typo) to let's say 6/4.
It would make too much sense, not going to happen.
For me the best solutions would be:
a) Legendary
b) Nerf the stats of MC
c) Make him pull 2 random secrets from the deck
Either one would be fine for me. Not too fond on the idea of a cap in the number of secrets in play, I don't mind facing a board full of secrets as long as they're not pulled out of the deck for free.

Patron rapes Challenger.

Hearthstone...I play that.
Music...I make that.
Youtube...I have that.

Midrange Paladin has a good match-up as well.
Came here to say this. Muster for Battle + Big Game Hunter on your own turn 6 pretty much wins you the game; Muster and attack to trigger Noble Sacrifice, Avenge hits Mysterious Challenger to put it in BGH range, and Redemption just brings back the Defender.

So far, Hunter with Flare, Patron Warrior and Oil Rogue...

Priest or Face Hunter are both strong match ups.

Sadly, not anymore...
Return of the king. Let's give secret paladin a warm welcome back to #1. :))

Nothing doing, traveler.

If by "warm welcome" you mean all the losers who play it are going straight to Hell, then yes.
Its fangs are in your flesh before its hiss leaves your ears.
Golden Heroes: Druid -> Rogue -> Shaman -> Hunter -> Warlock
Oil Rogue actually does well against secret paladin, and I would think that most tempo decks can do well against it.
Face Hunter tends to melt Mysterious Challenger Paladin, but holy cow is that deck boring to play (at least to me).
Rogue, Tempo Mage, Priest or even Druid can take them, at least those are the strongest ones (that are actually competitive against other classes).
