the title and OP.. wtf? why proud?! the question is: "why being stupid to pay?" it's just a f2p game, so I just don't pay. what's the problem? I have every good card in the game without money. instead of wasting 500 € in one game, you could have bought ten real games. or even better: it's half of a new gamer pc that will be needed for Star Citizen release (= HS dead).
it got nothing to do with pride.. it's just about being intelligent.
Thanks for the exemple, that's exactly what I meant. I will answer your question simply.
If no one would pay for this game, Hearthstone would not exist anymore. Am I stupid to support a game I like to play? Don't think so...
I'm not hating F2P players, so don't hate players that pay.
If a F2P want to wait a bit for new cards or grind in order to build their collection then that's fine by me.
Think the hint is in the name -Card Collection- Game. More than half the fun is building the collection - like I used to with football cards as a kid. Once the collection was actually complete the whole thing stopped being any fun at all. I truly regret the packs i bought - arena all the way from now on.
You get this in every single game out there that has in-app purchases. I play a couple of other games, and the forums connected are chock full of threads with "I'm F2P!!!!!" tagged on end. It does get irritating. Because why should someone else's expenditure [or lack of] on some PC or app game concern me? It doesn't! It's as if they feel this need to mention it every post, like it strengthens what they have to say.

So basically you're just a leach and are playing this game while thinking it isn't worth paying for at all. You're the worst kind of person who plays this game. Let me guess, you also collect welfare?
What I have found is that F2P players usually fall into one of these groups:
1) They are children/teenagers.
2) They are unemployed or see above.
3) They are complete misers and losers in real life and have never put their hand into their pocket to pay for something.
4) They understand nothing (and I mean NOTHING) about game development, usually referring to games as pixels etc...
I could go on but I think I made my point. Basically if some says to me proudly that they have never payed anything then I just ignored them because they fall into one of the category above.

I agree with you to an extent, I really enjoy the card collection part as a motivation to play well and also get sort of bored once I've achieved and collected everything, but that is OUR way of playing the game, and is not the only, or best, way of playing the game. You may not have meant to imply that it is the only way, but others posting here have done so about paying or not paying and that "my way is the best and only way" is the mentality I am against. I understand why people would want to have all the cards and all the options at their fingertips, and I don't think either way of enjoying the game is better, and what is truly most important is the enjoyment the person gets out of it, regardless of their approach. This thread could be about acceptance, but it just reinforces my disappointment in humans, stemming from a general lack of empathy or logical thought. Again, no beef with the guy or gal I'm quoting.
I am proud of having accomplished a high rank (rank 5) until now without having buying a pack...
I believe that paying money for a game like this is like using a cheatcode.. but thats just my point of view.
And people who have work and other responsibilities for 18 of the 24 hours in every day are supposed to do what? Play with shitty basic cards every day for years until they have enough dust for something worthwhile? I don't think F2Pers understand the concept of having a real life and having to actually get out of the house.

He is not the only one who thinks that.
Personally i also feel that this game is not worth the money that they are charging. The developers are doing a poor job at game balancing and customer service. It's an awesome game to play for free, but when the thought of spending money on a low rate game like this crosses my mind, i shudder. And that's saying a lot because i am one who will spend over 70 dollars for a meal if the restaurant's ambience is to my liking.
It's not about leeching or not, it's about Blizzard offering me "hey check out our game, this is what you get if you don't pay, but if you pay, you will get THIS instead!". Erm no thanks, i'll stick to not paying. If you feel that me playing without paying is hurting you so bad that you have to send a bunch of judgemental fanboys to try to sway my decision, why not just charge a subscription fee? I'll gladly stop playing the game. Somehow Blizzard is NOT charging a subscription fee, or forcing us to pay, so it means that they don't really need my money to stay afloat. It's not like they are going under just because i didn't preorder TGT.
So, those who paid, get off your high horse. You didn't do it to support Blizzard, you paid because you wanted more cards, simple as that. Do you also brag around about how you "supported" McDonalds by buying a Happy Meal? Oh how generous of you, but guess what? Your purchase doesn't matter. You paid, you got cards, end of the self-serving business transaction. There is not an ounce of good will, and you are most definitely not a saint who is opening a soup kitchen to make sure thousands of Blizzard employees don't starve to death.

Stopped reading here. If the game isn't worth your money, stop playing. You're a leach off of people who actually spend money to play this game, and you're entitled and shitty about it at the same time. When I read comments like this I just picture the same type of people who are able bodied, standing in line at the unemployment office collecting money from tax payers because they're too entitled to get off their asses and find a job.
If you can't afford to even spend $10 a year on this game, you shouldn't be playing. If you can afford it and don't think it's worth it, you shouldn't be playing.

The answer to the OP is a very simple psychological mechanism called "self-justification." Essentially, any time any human being makes a decision that they were unsure about or didn't want to make, their brain instantly launches off on a subconscious hunt for reasons why the thing they did was the right thing. It's why F2Pers tell themselves that they're clever or that Blizzard doesn't "deserve it," and it's the same reason that P2Wers tell themselves that they're allowing the game to exist or that they "deserve it."
Historically, Benjamin Franklin was famous for using this effect: by asking someone who disliked him to lend him a rare and valuable book (and getting it), he softened their attitude -- and by continuing to ask for favors, and occasionally doing one back (deliberately avoiding any effort to keep track of who 'owed' who what), the two became fast friends.
Interestingly, some of the latest research shows that this effect is so powerful, you can deliberately take advantage of it to 'trick' yourself into liking something (or someone). All you have to do is decide to do something that doesn't make rational sense, and involves voluntarily sacrificing something you care about (your time, your money, your principles, your firstborn child) for another person/organization/cause/etc. Even though you logically know that you made that sacrifice against your own best interests for the purpose of using your own self-justification to alter your own thought process, it still works.
This trick is used by marriage counselors, by religious leaders, by teachers, and by basically anyone who understands that getting people to give to you, no matter how minor and especially if it doesn't benefit them in any way, will make them self-justify their action -- which usually means finding a reason to like you(r organization). (Or, in the case of the marriage counselor, getting people to make sacrifices for their spouse makes them feel more in love. HUGE life lesson hidden in there somewhere.)
So there you have it: the reason that people are proud of not paying is the exact same reason that people are proud of paying: because it's a difficult decision (relatively speaking), and difficult decisions are always self-justified after they're made.
Now, will all of you ignoranuses who are disrespecting each other so nastily over a goddamn computer game please go outside and play?
I looked at this card originally and I thought, you know, it's a card, and you play this card. The card will be that card that you play so you're playing a card. So, it is one thing to play a card. If you're opponent doesn't really have any cards, the card will screw up the card pretty hard, and that means it's a pretty good card.
See, Hectorius is the exact kind of guys that ashames all F2P's. Because HE does not want to spent a lot into the game, HE decided that doing so was stupid. Here you have the worst kind of narrow minded person who believes his own opinions are a general reality, allowing him to be a judgemental prick. Not only does not he understand that each person is free to spend their own money the way they want, but that it is thanks to all of us he is actually able to play the game for free.
Even if he is a bit rude, I'm 100% with GetDroned on this one.
You are so brainwashed by consumerism and society's ideals it is laughable. You are aware that you have an option as to what is important in your life, correct? If you choose to follow those values keeping the idea of choice in mind, then I have no quarrel with you, I just need to know. Personally, money is not a consideration for me when participating in activities, enjoyment is. That is what I choose to focus on and I enjoy myself quite a bit, but focusing on money is fine too, but being so vocal and nearsighted about it may be a mistake. Did you know you had a choice?

I used to buy MTG packs back in the day and never thought anything of it, so I justify the occasional HS pack purchase that way.
