Hello, a noob here. I started playing this game a couple days ago. I've played a few hours as shaman, got worked in the arena, and been generally messing around. I've bought some packs, for a legendary only have Nat Pagle. I've read much of the game mechanic-type-stuff such as this:
In general, what are the main meta-strategies for decks? I'm trying to make 2-3 decks right now to understand each character (trying shaman mostly, then warlock and priest) and know what to cards to expect opponents to play, but I don't know what styles of play there are (control, aggro, defense?), or who plays what best. I can watch streams to observe strategy, but I probably need to know who plays what first. I don't feel that building decks around the character cards I have is the best idea, but it'd be better to know what good general strategies are. Thanks!
In general every class can play any type of deck. Some definitely have a slight advantage in one field than others do, because of class hero power or some class cards which naturallily imply certain playstyles.
During the first days of a fresh ladder, most will play any kind of rush/aggro: usually it will be rogues (strong combos), warlocks (extra card draws), warriors (weapons) and hunters (offensive hero power). But you might see any other class doing so as well.
On a more generalized line: Druids and Priests work best with a control deck , emphasizing their strength in lategame Hunters and Rogues prefer aggressive playstyles, but both can be played control (midgame decks) Shamans, Warlocks and Warriors both can be very strong with aggressive decks and control Paladins have a different approach to aggro, where they steadily deal damage to the hero, while keeping control (add in heals) Mages currently don't work great with any strategy, but a mix works nicely
