So there was a thread yesterday about OP having hard time in ranked, and some people including me agreed that this week was hard. I dropped from 10 to 15 in few days. I mostly played Control Priest but sometimes switched decks too, didn't work. This morning i saw this Priest deck that runs 2x Deathlords and 2x Velen's, decided to give it a try. Started when i was rank 15, now i'm 11 and on a winstreak. I know that Kripp hates Deathlord, but it works like a charm for me. Coin + Deathlord followed by Velen's is mostly insta-win. Although against other Priests and Warriors its really hard to play it, since they have really cheap removals, but if i have a SW:D in hand, it usually doesn't matter at all. And deck has enough removals/AOE/Big threats to win against other control decks, So what's your thoughts? Is it because i won a few games and im on a good mood and playing well, or Deathlord is actually working greatly?
It's a meta call; it really depends on the people in your tier. If you're playing against other control decks Deathlord is a death sentence; if you're playing against midrage/aggro decks it is usually great.
Yeah I don't think it's a big secret that Deathlord crushes aggro and the meta at level 15-5 contains a lot of aggro. Maybe even more so now that all the try hards are desperate to get to rank 5 for max chest rewards.
if you're encountering a lot of aggro yes deathlord is insane, even against some midrange decks it's pretty hard to deal with. if not deathlord can and will lose you games against control decks.

Well against Control Deathlord simply shouldn't be played at all and then the question is can you win the control mirror with 2 dead cards in your deck or will it significantly decrease your win percentage in that matchup?
But i generally agree even though i personally don't think the meta is aggressive enough at the moment to justify running the card.
I've played total of 6-7 games against CW, CP, and Ramp Druids, I won nearly half of them. And Deathlord is actually useful when i have a SW:D or Lightbomb in hand. Sometimes it pulls a Boom or Alex, allowing me to remove them without having to deal with their Battlecries. Though it just lost me a game against a Warlock by pulling out a Malygos, i still think its one of the two MPVs of the deck, along with Ysera.
I took deathlord out of my priest deck and and went from 8 to 5. I've seen too many mid-range and control decks for deathlord to work correctly. Cards like execute, equality, hunters mark, etc are too prevalent in the current meta-game for me to beef up a deathlord and pray.
I have also had some insane experiences against Deathlord. I have played against it in Priest on several occasions with my Raging Worgen Warrior combo deck, and the deathrattle has ALWAYS taken my Worgen and auto-lost me the game. Likewise, I play a lot of Druid, and the Deathlord always seems to pull important battlecry cards, like Ancient of Lore. There are certain classes (like Druid) against which it is especially powerful, because who really cares if it has put a 5/5 or a 2/4 into play if the Druid has lost the battlecry.

Chances are you weren't going to draw it anyways and you got a 5/5 from your opponents Deathrattle. This is one of the worst situations for him/her because they now have to deal with an extra 5/5. The only time I think pulling a big minion from Deathlord is beneficial is Card Alexstrasza from Freeze Mage.

That's a good call. Deathlord is specifically a tech card. He's worse against control but great against aggro and CAN work against combo if your deck is able to take advantage of it. He' s a great card that makes you stop thinking of "The perfect deck" and more "the best deck to fight against my opponents."
If only Deathlord did not bring a theme of "Evil Scourge" with him, I'd be able to use him in Paladin. I might consider running an evil priest control deck later on. I want to try and compete against a lot of these hyper aggressive decks I've been encountering at rank 15.

Theme is important! For me.
Note, along with Deathlord, Soulpriest is also a great card, theme and usewise, especially since it basically reverses all of those 'heal' cards into 'harm'. It's part of the more hybridized version of Chinese Priest and it rocks aggro decks.
I tried Deathlord in Shaman, it was garbage. In Priest, meh, so-so. Wild Pyro might be better.
Deathlord in control warrior? Awesome. 2x Deathlord + 2x Brawl = Fun times. They usually can deal with him easily enough without losing too much board, but then the brawl just sweeps them and pulls a minion out of their deck as a bonus.
Also great in fatigue wars. Give you the option to draw them more cards or to just wait until they have nothing left so you can drop him as a 2/8 with no drawback.
You have about 48 hours left to play this deck, until aviana appears in the meta (or any of the inspire minions).
Deathlord works because of the popularity of battlecry and zoo decks, once the joust (expensive minions, and inspire, great value) minions become a thing, you're going to hit a wall, very very painfully. Just my guess. Happy to be wrong but it's how i see it.
That's like saying "You're having fun with Harrison, but wait until those weapon classes stop being used. Then you'll suffer."
When joust/inspire decks go into the meta, it means the meta is no longer populated by aggro, which is the entire point to using deathlord. Thus once that happens deathlord gets put away too, retried with honor. Then out comes my anti-midrange deck with thoughtsteal. :D
And if they dare try to speed the game up again, deathlord comes out of retirement. That's deck management.
edit: ACTUALLY, this is already my present meta. I'm seeing a lot of midrange hunters, druids, and handlocks. Thus I swapped my Chinese priest with an experimental dragon priest. Relies on dragons, thoughtsteal, and a MTG styled midrange (capable of going aggro or control depending on opponent) mindset with nice healthy minions I can stack and slam or heal/buff up for tempo gain. No big dragons though: highest mana is 6 with Emperor and Sylvanas. No Dr. Boom either. he actually doesn't work well when you can nuke the main body and your minions carry 5 health on average.
Btw he's only this good right now because hunter and eboladin took out hunter's mark and equality. Once they start putting those back in, deathlord becomes just garbage.
I've been running Deathlord in my main deck for some time now (see signature if interested) and I can tell you he's very hit or miss. Vs. Warrior and Priest I almost don't drop him because he almost always backfires and doesn't add much value. However since the meta is much more aggro focused I feel he's a positive much more often then a negative.
Yeah every now and then I'll play a hunter who has Hunter's Mark in hand and gets a Savannah Highmane out of it or a tempo mage will get Archmage Antonidas but more times then not they'll get some 2 or 3 drop and it's value is well worth it.
Overall I love the card - he single handily wins games.

Deathlord is great in Priest either as a tech card against aggro or if you are very careful about how you play him. Nothing better than using Deathlord to pull your opponent's minions into a juicy Lighbomb wipe.
I wouldn't say he's always good, since he can straight lose you the game if you're unlucky.

P.S. The deck:
Easy N'zoth Quest Priest
Yeap I am running the same, went from rank 15 to 6 the last 3 days.. deathlord gives more wins than loses

Divine spirit :)
Its also a card that makes silencing not a insta choice
Golden Heroes(Ordered by acquired): Hunter. Paladin. Warlock. Mage. Shaman(hehe thanx blizz free-be) Warrior and Druid.
Heeey... This is the same deck that I won with my eboladin with ease... No hate pls. I'm not rank 5 yet, I need aggro decks

Easy N'zoth Quest Priest
Played against this with my CW. Got Armorsmith and BGH from Deathlord. He thoughtstole my Ysera and Ragnaros the Firelord, and Sylvanas Windrunner stole my Ysera. In the end he won when I hadn't more cards left...
Silver Hand Recruit

One does not simply walk into Mordor,
unless they want to be the best they can be.
