I dont know what all these people are saying about magma rager. Of course blizzard is not encouraging you not to play magma rager. To the contrary you can now play both, magma rager and Ice rager...
P.S. in most decks you could cut Dr. Boom and one sludge belcher for the two ice ragers.
To be honest I don't understand why people even care about power creep. Even if it happens...so what? If new sets are not going to be better than old set then why would people buy them...meta is going to be so stale ...new cards are not viable at all....game will probably die off.
After seeing the whole TGT set, I think I like what Blizz is doing. They are slowing introducing new archetype for each class which would in a way minimize the powercreep.
There are ways to make new cards better than old ones without power creep. For example, Pilotted Shredder has already replaced Chillwind Yeti in the slot of 4-drop staple. No power creep there, but Shredder is overalll considered to give a better result than Chillwind Yeti, and that is acceptable to everyone.
However, the moment u start having pure power creep, you are redefining the acceptable stats to mana cost ratio. Previously, 5 mana 4/5 with Taunt is the basis of how stats work, but now it has creeped to 4 mana 5/4 with Taunt. So the value of Taunt reduces, and they now have to use this as a basis when creating new minions with Taunt. Judging by this, Taunt minions will be cheaper and cheaper (yay for control, eat that facehunter!) in the future.
This is not healthy for the game because it is like inflation. It's like Taunt is the currency and it is getting weaker and weaker, soon the entire meta will be filled with Taunt minions and any minions without taunt will be non playable, because why would you want to play a 4 mana 5/4 if you can play a 4 mana 5/4 that has Taunt (not enough taunt hate cards to consider not playing a Taunt minion). So 4 mana 5/4 is no longer acceptable for a vanilla minion, you now have to give it a little extra something otherwise that card doesn't compare well to the Taunt counterpart.
This is just an example and depends on the rate of power creep, we might be making old cards obsolete faster than a F2P can amass new cards, and that is bad for Blizzard PROVIDING that they still want to keep the F2P model.
Cards like magma rager and booty bay body guard serve a purpose. For a new player that knows nothing about hearthstone or tcgs in general, they are there to teach. They will figure out what cards are good and bad, respectfully, and that learning process is important. Of corse we all know that magma rager is a bad card, but new players don't. Finding out what the decently of various cards gives players an accomplished feeling and that's good. We are all past that point, I know, but many are not.
People really need to chill the hell out. Two cards the won't be played replacing two cards that were never played is the biggest non issue I've ever heard of. Negativity is bad for your health dude.
well booty bay is technically better in a joust deck, and magma rager can work with a Health version of Hobgoblin that could theoretically exist in the future. Either way, all of them suck, and we're whining about what exactly?
Like Ben Brode said power creep doesnt matter as long as the previous card is unplayable trash. Its their way to "buff" cards while making money, this is why they are reluctant to buff old cards with patches .
Instead of making these two cards, they could have made two other cards that set a new niche, like...basically every other card they made in the expansion. They could have made a neutral murloc or another non leg neutral pirate, or whatever. But instead they made these cards.
Honestly that's what bugs me. Instead of changing the other two cards and adding two new cards instead that push the mold like everything else, they do this.
Now here is a thought, both booty bay and magma rager are both free cards that you get when you start. Giving this cards a minor creep from packs a good way for newer players to learn the game without trying anything to complex for them.
Stuff like that is supposed to happen. Just accept it.
That's why people accept dumb things like intentionally bad cards and power creep. Is stupid as hell, I don't care about tradition or what magic does. It is retarded, everyone objectively knows that as much. The only defense is it is a part of card games, or magic does it all time. Or it isn't a big deal. No it is definitely a bad thing for the game, but seems people will put up with dog crap, blizzard must be happy.

It's called Appealing to Tradition, specifically Traditional wisdom and it's a common but compelling logical fallacy. If it's happened in other card games and has just been the way things have been done doesn't mean its a good or logical reasoning for this to happen. Granted saying this is the begging of the end of power creep and every card is going to be power creeped now is a slippery slope fallacy in itself, but the fact that it's happening right now with Ice Rager and Evil Heckler as clear examples it's apparent power creep is here. It's perfectly fine to point it out and express your opinion about it too.
I agree the major arguments in favor for power creep have been rather weak imo with indifference or most people just not caring being the primary reason this is being allowed to happen. We can just hope blizzard learns a lesson from this and even if half the community doesn't care, if enough are vocally resistant to the idea it probably wouldn't happen again. There are plenty of stat ideas, combination of effects or unique ideas in general that they will run out of lore before card stat distributions.
I hope kripparian, trump other popular streamers blast blizzard for these cards. If enough people voice dissatisfaction, they will be hesitant to power creep again...maybe even change magma and BBB so they aren't strictly worse.
Appeal to tradition, that's exactly what it is. Seems Jaina polymorphed a bunch of people, cause I am hearing many sheep.
The funny thing is that Ice Rager might actually be playable in all-in yolo rush decks like zoo.

Power creep is always part of the game to sell more cards and so the new cards are played. I would suggest adjusting your expectations for the game.

Here's another way to think about it:

I'm sad for Booty Bay. It has an amazing summoning quote that now literally nobody will hear.
If you aren't playing Paladin, you're doing it wrong.
People, you underestimate the value of Magma Rager. kappa
I posted a tribute to the poor guy getting once again bullied by Blizzard.
The OTK Magma Rager is real.
"Live Free or Die Hard"
wolf rider does 6 damage if it survives. Ice rager does 5 so wolfrider>ice rager still
My legendary count excluding adventure legendaries, dupes and old murk eye: 40

what they should do is not add new cards to stop this happening
Magma rager is terrible card that nobody ever played in constructed and nobody ever picked in arena.
Practically, this card never existed.
And now we have a new 5/2 card for 3 mana. The status of Magma rager isn't going to change. Same amount of decks (0) will use him.
Quoting Ben Brode Himself: "if we make a better undertaker, that’s power creep. Making a better version of a card that nobody plays is not."
So no, it is not power creep. They just do not want to "buff" older cards. They would rather make new ones.
Your bait is pathetic
