So I was working my way up the ladder today and accidentally stumbled across an almost full-proof counter to face hunters. It occurred because I was watching Family Guy while I was playing, and wound up getting distracted (that will make sense in a moment).
First a little background on face hunters: Most people play cancer.. I mean face hunter for a few reasons, one of the key one's being that, win or lose, the matches are generally quick. If the matches are quick and you have a fair win rate (even 60%) you will move up quickly and gain gold faster. This is where the Eureka moment occurs.
There I was, watching Family Guy, and while I was distracted a couple of my turns ran out. Suddenly - BOOM! I had won the game. Simply by slowing down their cancerous play and letting each of my turns run to it's full extent, the average face hunger concedes about 5-6 turns in. I'd say half of my face hunter games end with an early concession now. All of you should try it!
Roping is not cancerous behavior, you have the right to take your turn at your own pace. I do it all the time against face hunters that are so dumb to not trade their 1/1 into my 4/1. The only counter to rushing is slowing down, so that's legit. I'm not even kidding with this one.
You have to think your turns ahead. Face hunter doesn't have to, they just vomit their cards on the board, sure they play fast. Taking you're whole turn to think about your moves is totally legit, just like playing an anti game deck like face hunter. And we're not sore losers, but we want to play the game too, not just watch the opponent plays his cards. Don't get me wrong, i beat face decks 90% of the time, but the style of the deck and the way they don't trade, even when it's to their advantage is idiotic.
Agreed there is nothing wrong choosing an agro deck, or taking your time to work out your move but intentionally roping in order to annoy people sounds pretty low.
Well using your turn to think your moves is legit and warranted but when I play against such player who "ropes" every turn - meaning doing all their plays in the start of the turn then waiting for the rope to burn every single turn - is literally bad behavior. The sad thing is its ranked and I'm not even playing face hunter or aggro at that time (was playing Ramp Druid or Dragon Warrior).
Say that they are watching or doing something; you could always hit the end turn rather than roping and rushing when its the start of your next turn.
When I play those matches, I really want an option ingame to report such players (like in DotA 2) but then again implementing it would bring more harm than good on the side of HS staff. (Salty players reporting everyday ugh)
If you don't want ropes than play smart. There was this game where my opponent played Abusive Sergeant on an empty board and i played Explosive Sheep. The most logical thing to do is kill the Sheep with your Abusive and then play whatever minion you want, right? He thought otherwise: he went face with the Abusive and played Arcane Golem with the Explosive Sheep on the board. Tell me that's not rope material! Anyway, Lifecoach does it every turn no matter his opponent, so yeah, tell him he's not fairplay.
Of course it is "your right" to rope every turn. However, consider this:
Face hunters usually don't play those decks because they enjoy their opponents' misery when facing another face hunter. They play the deck because it's cheap, efficient and easy to learn. Therefore, many new players use this deck.
Now, roping every turn when you need to think through what you're going to do is absolutely fine, but roping on purpose just to annoy your opponent is a really shitty thing to do and puts you morally way below the hunter itself. I understand the impulse, but I'd ask everyone of you who uses this method to reconsider - we should aim towards a better community, not one that makes others' lives shitty on purpose. And no, I don't play face hunter myself.
Sure, below rank 5 i don't do this at all. I understand they are beginners and i really don't want to make the start of their "Hearthstone life" miserable. Hell, when i started playing Hearthstone i was using a Face Mage that wrecked, but as i played more and more i realized that it's disgusting. So when i see someone going face irresponsibly at higher ranks that's when i do the rope thing. It would be crazy to rope at rank 20.
And by the way, i hardly ever lose to a face deck, because i tech against them, but it really sucks when playing versus another control matchup, it's like an instant loss.

What the hell does this even mean? Tech your deck properly and stop crying already. I don't cry when I face a control warrior because he's armoring up too much. You either accept that your deck loses to certain things or you change what you play and accept a new set of strength and weaknesses. I don't understand the people in hearthstone that get mad at their opponent for following a game plan that you are weak to.

It means when you have a favorable trade to do and you still mindlessly go face.
Why are you telling me to tech against face hunter, can't you read? My decks don't lose to face hunter. :) I'm going to copy-paste what i said so you don't think i'm reiterating: i hardly ever lose to a face deck, because i tech against them, but it really sucks when playing versus another control matchup, it's like an instant loss."
Well you're a dick and a sore loser, nothing else. Build a deck that beats Face Hunter if you fight it all the time instead of acting like a little kid. People like you are the real cancer of this game, not people who simply pick a deck to win (which is the ONLY point of ranked)
Agreed 1000%. Textbook scrub mentality (winning isn't worthy unless you win by playing the way I want to play) combined with appalling sportsmanship. OP should stick to single-player games until he learns to play nicely with other children, where he would have the additional benefit that in a single-player game, everyone can be a winner.
Hey, i agree roping is dickish, but that's my game plan against face decks. Just like in Starcraft, if your opponent rushes, you have to turtle up for a bit. Roping one or two turns accomplishes that.
This place is hilarious at times ... every other day we have anti-face hunter posts and threads, and people swarm to voice their disgust at that particular variant. Then someone says they roped on a hunter, making him mad enough to concede, and people are swarming to say that is evenworse than playing FH!? Haha, you cannot win on here.
I think it's perfectly acceptable to rope Face hunters, Mech Mages and aggro Pallys. Thumbs up! It is sometimes the only way to make them think a little on what they're doing.

you can try and rationalize your behaviour anyway you like. The fact remains that you are deliberatly being a dick towards other people.

Tanking my full turn isn't cancerous )

There is nothing wrong with taking your turn to think out the next few moves
However if you are intentionally roping purely to annoy the opponent then i agree that you are worse than face hunter

PS its "foolproof".
Roping on purpose vs Facehunters is totally legit, same goes for Shockadins :)(

I love scrubs
You know this actually puts you below face hunters on the trash-scale, right?
IMO you can basically do this over casual against any kind of decks to annoy people farming for gold. But I will hate you from the bottom of my heart.

Roping due to really thinking hard about what to do ... totally legit.
Roping due to multi tasking/reading/watching other shit on the side ... a bit inconsiderate, but fine.
Roping out of spite / to piss others off ... being a total dick.
It's not the act itself that is wrong, it's the intention behind it that makes it disgraceful.
